Any Chewers on Spotify?

Not sure what the consensus is on this thing around here, but I kind of like it, and think it would be cool to get some chewer playlist sharing going. My username is DSR84 if you want to look for me. I only have one playlist published, but I think it's a good one.

And if you don't know, you can find other users by typing spotify:user:username into the search bar, where "username" is the person you're looking for.

I'm on it. For 10 bucks a month it's a steal for how much value I get out of it.

Just made a little five song playlist of something that's supposed to be awesome protest songs, and I told it to be "collaborative". I don't know if this means anyone can add to it, but if it lets you, have at.

I'm into it so far.  It's a great concept.  I hope it catches on.

I've had it (and for free) for I think around 2 months by now, and it indeed is great. It has many obscure songs that I've "acquired" and downloaded in the past but it's nice to "star" them so I have them in one list and I can listen to them back to back. I mean, the sheer mass of albums you have on there-pretty much all the stuff that's on iTunes-is why I can enjoy that service often and never get tired of it.

Oh, and to avoid those ads that you get after songs when you listen to it for free, stopping the song right before it ends and moving on to another tune is how you avoid that.

I've had Rhapsody for years, and by comparison I find Spotify a decent freebie alternative, but for my ten bucks a month, Rhapsody gives me a wider catalog (and from what I can see, fewer odd omissions, or albums with several songs not licensed), plus the ability to copy any music I want for free to my mp3 player, and purchase prices that sometimes beat Amazon. But there's no question, Spotify gives you a lot for free.

I think the potentially most fun thing about Spotify are some of the social utilities, sharing and making playlists with friends, etc. I don't know if Rhapsody has anything like that, but if it does I might have to switch over (currently paying for Spotify).

Not that I'm aware of, but it's not a feature I'd use much, so I might have overlooked it.

Well, this is timely:

Rhapsody looks to outshine Spotify, Pandora with site revamp

Quote:

Rhapsody has gotten some fresh updates to the site that focus on social media features. Some of the highlights include:

  • My Radio: An automatic playlist of 150 recently played songs that functions like a “sonic calling card” that could be used to provide recommendations and facilitate connections
  • Social networking: Users can connect with friends from Facebook, Twitter and Gmail to see what they’re listening to and share what they’re playing too
  • Editorial content: Rhapsody has assembled a team of curators for designing playlists, round-ups and writing exclusive editorial content about classic and new artists
  • Speed and performance: The new, streamlined design is intended to make it easier for users to find find and play music, create playlists and search for new songs

Haven't had any communications from Rhapsody about this, and there hasn't been a new player update, so I would assume some of this is in the near future (or perhaps it's exclusive to the website, rather than the player).

One other feature I forgot to mention: because my Windows 7 phone uses Zune as its music player, I also have full access to Rhapsody on my phone, on those occasions when I might be without my mp3 player.

I've been dying to get on Spotify for weeks now. I never received an invite after applying for one multiple times on their site, so I sort of gave up. With me getting back into the medium in a big way, I could totally see myself loving it. Anyone help a white, white brotha out by getting me access?

The only two problems I found with doing that before I upgraded the service were:

  1. You could get away with that up to a point - usually the 4th or 5th song. But eventually it would hit you with an ad anyway, even if you skipped on to another or wound it back to the start of the same one again.
  2. Unless you want to stop whatever it is you're doing right before the end of every song, so that you can skip back to the start or choose another, it gets really annoying after a while. Especially since it's ultimately futile anyway (see point 1.)

But yes, I'd be interested in getting some Chewer playlist stuff on the go. Even though I fully expect to find my tastes don't jive with the majority, based on past thread contributions.

I'm on Spotify, but I have to admit that until today I have barely used it. I was one of the first group in the beta. I'll definitely be using it wayyyyyy more now. I might actually upgrade to the paid membership.

New Spotify users must sign up via a Facebook account.
Quote:
Yesterday, it was widely reported that as part of Spotify’s big integration with Facebook, the music service has started using Facebook Connect. Some companies use it as an optional way to sign up and login to their service, but Spotify has made it mandatory: you now need to use your Facebook credentials to sign up for Spotify.

In other words, if you don’t have a Facebook account, you can’t get a Spotify account. Existing Spotify users are not affected by this change.

That's pretty dumb.
