The Thing gets a red band trailer.

There is a part of me that is kind of rooting for this movie to defy the odds and be good. This trailer isn't helping that.

Prediction: this is a Thing remake that some people will enjoy and say it's better because it's "more contemporary", and isn't as stodgy as the original (i.e., Snyder's Dawn of the Dead). I never trust those people. There are the die-hards fans who just want MOAR THING who will like it no matter what. Their taste is beyond invalid. There are the brand of die-hard fans of whom their will be no pleasing no matter what. I'm one of them. We're also not to be trusted.  There are about ten people I know who, if they told me this was good, I'd listen. Eight of them probably won't bother seeing it.

At worst it's going to be the worst movie based on this material. The other two are on my shelf, unmessed-with, as is the Campbell story.

It can't be worse than The Ward.

Don't blame us, this thread was here first. There was an article linked too. Those were the days.

The other thread/article must be a thing from another world. It killed this article and assumed its place.

If this weren't at all associated with The Thing, I think we'd be all about this, no?

It's becoming not fair, guys. Let these guys make their icky, somewhat CGI-monster movie. It's not going to be John Carpenter's The Thing. It probably won't be fit to smell Carpenter's shoes. But this is some cool footage.

I was so much handsomer back then.

I've seen it. I did not enjoy it. It's dull as dogshit, mainly because it tries valiantly to replicate Carpenter's measured pace and slow-burn tension in a bid to be a companion piece to the '82 THING but fails to develop characters worth giving a damn about. Despite the 'prequel' claims, this is really a remake, with the director and screenwriter literally stealing scenes from Carpenter's THING, only tweaking the dialogue or slightly altering the scenario to create a small point of differentiation. There are one or two decent gore moments but no real shocks to speak of and none of the oppressive paranoia that distinguished the '82 movie. If there's a complicated backstory behind the making of this movie, with suits or producers stepping in to tamper with it, I'd be intetested in hearing it. But I was completely underwhelmed by this. Completely.
