HIMYM season 7

starting season 7 thread. The first episode was kind of meh.. but thoroughly enjoyed episode 2.

Loved that actor who played Edward 40-hands.. he's great in everything.

Loved "We're having a baby."  -- "For real?" Nice in-joke after the past camouflaging of Hannigan's actual pregnancy.

Martin Short was off his game. Maybe the material, maybe the being stranded on a greenscreen stage.

Smulders and Harris killed with that dance number.

God, Marshall destroying the wedding and the build-up to it was fantastic. So happy to have my favourite, middle-of-the-road, sitcom back.

Smulders and Harris really did own that dance, just such a great sequence and it immediately reminded me why I still kind of adore this show seven seasons on.

Excellent episode. They finally address how F'd up it is that Ted, Barney and Robin hang out together plus we get a whole episode devoted to Lily's boobs.

Awesome.

I really hope that's not the last we see of Victoria.

Or Lily's boobs.

Liked seeing Kal Penn on the show, loved how he had to keep corralling Robin's story back in.

"C3PO, R2D2 and the droid Uncle Owen almost bought from the Jawas" had me rolling.

sadly last night's episode wasn't that exciting. Well at least we know Kal Penn will be on for another episode or two.

Martin Short nailed it this week.

Also loved Barney skipping through fifteen additional slides of Ewok lore, and:

"You're 29! You still have one good year left!"
"What?"

"Nothing"

Loved the commentary on social media, still didn't like the episode though. The best part was Robin's survival backstory.

Love for Weird Al.

To say nothing of Peculiar Jacques.

Loved Barney coming out to James Brown's "Living in America".

That bit at the end where Barney was beating the crap out of his Canadian self was awesome. All around great episode and Alyson Hannigan can sell me on a house anytime.

Anyone can see that Barney and Robin were going to get back together. I was still glad to see it happen.

But them coming back together now probably means it will not last until the season ending. Although I still expect Barney to be marrying her, not Norah.

In general... do you guys think the series should end with the phrase "And kids, THIS is how I met your mother"... or can the series continue past that point?

I think it should continue past, he should meet the mother, screw things up, and hijinks ensue.  They could easily spend a season or two on that, and truth be told, that's the most tenuous reason we watch the show anyway, it's the interaction between the main cast.  They just have to find the right person that can be added, and the show really can go on for a while, who knows how long they dated and it took them to get married.  That seems like the natural stopping point, and the writers could really take as long as they pleased on that, as long as they keep the funny.  I'm happy to follow these friends as long as the show makes it fun.

Me too, I have felt for a while now that getting the Mother thing over with is the freshest step the show could take.  It makes it hard to invest in any other girl Ted meets when you know it's not the Mother at this point.

It's people like you who insisted that Lynch reveal who killed Laura Palmer.

So you're implying that Ray Wise is the mother?

It's obvious, isn't it?

wow. That almost brought me to tears. The last scene with Barney cleaning up the rose petals was pretty poignant.

Agreed.  Yet, at some point Ted needs to start sounding and looking like Danny Tanner.

And unless his kids are adopted or are her's from an earlier relationship, he needs to get the mother. To get her pregnant, to make Lyndsey Fonseca.

the ghostbusters "signs" were hilarious.

Although Robin and Barney kind of makes sense, I have never liked the idea of the two together.  It felt forced.  However, this season has done a great job of making me root for them.  Last night kinda took me by surprise even though everything about the episode was leading up to that bomb.  I can be so gullible sometimes.

I thought he'd spontaneously propose to her and than that. Can be Kumar's though.

While I want Barney and Robin to get back together, I don't want it this why. They should want to be together, not because she is caring his child.

The Ghostbusters bit was great.

"I sent it to your CompuServe account. That's your main one, right?"

Also, a gold star if Marshall and Lily's apartment remains tiny in future eps.

What a sad episode.. So Robin's story was being told in present time after all while on the park bench?

Yes, otherwise the voice-over would have been someone else playing "future" Robin.

Just so lucky Robin didn't kiss Ted in the final scene. That could have happened.

Good episode.  Heart wrenching, but handled with the deft touch they do so well.  I like where Robin and Ted are, they've believably moved them into a solid friendship without any romantic entanglements and I really hope they don't go back to that well.

A Christmas light show set to Highway to Hell was pure awesome!

Yes it was!

How long was she out in that park for? To set that up would take hours!

What a weird return from an extended break, only to go on break again for at least a week.  Bit of a sappy episode, which is fine, but they did not bring their humor.  Didn't even smile.  I thought the Marshall conspiracy story book was pretty dumb.  Otherwise, just blah for me.

So I'm in season 6 and just saw the episode Bad News...

...that end got me.

not really feeling this week's episode.. although the mice on the gouda made me chuckle.

I'm fully caught up!

Yeah this felt like a filler episode. Liked the episode structure, but the lack of any story advancement wasn't so great.

Ugh.  Since we know Ted isn't going to marry Robin for several reasons, why are they going back this again?  I know this show is a powerhouse in the ratings, but I am getting a bit tired of it.  It doesn't make me laugh as much as it did in the first few seasons and they are starting to recycle storylines a bit.  Maybe I am just frustrated because I don't see it ending any time soon.  I see this show hitting 10 seasons. :/

Ted and Robin again is a major downer, but I like the idea of Barney and a stripper.

I also loved the mathematical equation board Eureka moment.. "GET DRUNK!"

I thought it was a great episode right up until the Ted and Robin scene, I really thought we were done with that.  As far as ratings go, they're far better now than they were back in the original Ted & Robin days, so maybe the writers should take the hint.

ETA:  Ted's line about dating a girl who's favorite band was "Glee" killed me!

I would like the idea of Barney and the stripper if Robin had still been with Kal Penn.  Now that she not there is no reason why she and Barney can't try again.  Hopefully the show may be going with that earlier episode where Ted's ex tells him that he can't just keep hanging out with Robin and Barney considering the sexual history.  I just hope they take less than next season to get there.

Hmm no rush yet. We all knew Ted was mopey, and probably hooked up with Robin out of desperation.

Decent episode that could vary on the outcome of the next one.

whew.

Love the Long-Term Bet subplot. I don't see Lily trying to force a win on "Barney will die by murder" though.

Great little detail: in each variation of the "when I get back" flashback, Robin literally never quite closes the door on Ted.
