NEW GIRL- Zooey deschanel's show - Page 3

The show is angling for the comedy spot I usually fall for: no plot that actually matters, but a group of people I enjoy hanging out with each week watching them be funny.  It's certainly no HIMYM, but it has its charms.

Schmidtt was hilarious on Winston's date. "Should I turn on a little Jodeci?"   I burst out laughing.

Last night's episode was aces.

"You have the credit history of a homeless ghost."

The Man With No Phone.

Schmidt freely contributing to the Douchebag Jar.

Side notes:

I'm not sure what the show is trying to say about economic status. Rich guy is rich because he chose to be rich? Poor guy just has to choose not to be poor? Also, no way is Dermot Mulroney 42.

"He smells like strong coffee and going to see a man about a horse".  Amazing.

He is 48.

Indeed he is.

There was so much greatness from Nick last night.  I have to go On Demand and watch it again.  Also, I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I will kill for Hannah Simone.

Nick's friend... was it Dirk?, was rather funny. Loved his take on Space in a relationship.

Even better was how CeCe and Schmidtt get caught. Winston's reaction by running a stop sign.. priceless.

That was Freaks and Geeks' Martin Starr as Dirk. He's always great.

I want to know who named Cece's breasts. "We won't be going to White Castle tonight."

MANBULANCE!

Jess shouldn't be so stingy with her gold.

Starr was awesome as always. Mulroney's part seems written for Jon Hamm or something to me. I can't really understand people freaking out so much about him even in a show.

Winston giving the speech was the hardest I've laughed in I don't know how long. I thought Nick and the back sweat was hilarious but I had no idea that Winston would have me gasping for air. Best episode of the season.

I watched this ep for a second time today at lunch, and the entire cast was great. Winston stole this episode, but Schmidtt, Nick and Jess were just on point.

Best episode of the season?

Best episode of the season. Even Winston had things to do.

What do I find most amusing about this show?  The fact that as the chewers begin to appreciate it more and admire the evolution, the general public is tuning out.  It still has decent ratings, but they are dropping week after week.  And comments on ratings sites seem to be fairly unanimous that the second half of this season hasn't been doing it for them.

I am not sure why, but I suspect it's the fact that the show is becoming more ensemble oriented and the jokes aren't so "girly".  This show was on the lips of so many females at the beginning of the season, and now that the testosterone has been cranked up a notch they seem to be tuning out.

I never thought I would say this, but I actually look forward to this show, much like I did the first season of Modern Family.

Gotta agree. I guess I'm a dude, because less Jess makes me a happy viewer. The show is really starting to make great use of the cast as an ensemble. Anytime the gang is in the same room bantering back and forth, I love it.

On a separate note, how does Nick have no game? He's a bartender!

Yeah, for me, this show is all about Schmidt and Nick. Those guys bring the funny.

The ratings are going down as the show is getting better? Figures. I mean, I really try not to be an elitist "fuck the masses" asshole, but they are not making it easy for me.

New girl gets a second season! Yay!

Also, I demand the rules to True American! Hot lava!

RealApps.  In case I need to cobble a shoe.  lol.

"RELAPSE?"

Ok, episode. I don't care about Jess and her Fancy Man or Winston's inability to obtain a real job.

Me too!

Too little Schmidt too much Mulroney.

Super funny.  I rewatched it today and the phone conversation between Schmidt and Nick was hilarious.  I also loved Jess calling Nick "the Bridge to Terribethia." You make children cry.

I'd easily argue New Girl is funnier than Community now.

I don't know why but Schmidt's "We made a caramel miracle" line killed me. Also him as a baby and Jess's remark about a baby douchebag jar.

Russian nesting doll situation.

This.  I lost it during this entire conversation.

This show keeps getting better and better. And to think the initial marketing push of "Look how cute Zooey is" almost made me pass it up.

between the hilarious broken dick jokes, the russian girl and Nick and Jess's ass shake-off, it was Russell's quick look at the ceiling (not the eye-roll) that made me burst out laughing.

Fun episode, but the tomato plant storyline was a tad lame.

To be fair, it was a minimal storyline; even the writers seemed to give up on it pretty quickly.

I thought the joke was that Nick gave up so quickly we didn't even see what made him give up. He's just suddenly cramming the scarecrow into the garbage.

Likewise, the one moment when Nadia is anything but a lethargic lump takes place offscreen, when she's breaking Schmidt's penis.

"She was kicked out of Russia, Cece. Russia."

I really liked the tomato storyline because it gave us more crazy Nick.  And this weeks crazy Nick was sooo good.

This was a horrible episode. The only thing that made me laugh was the ass-off and the broken dick jokes at the end. Less Jess, more dude ensemble please.

I liked it ok.  Seemed a little inconsequential, but some of that stuff was gold!  Gold Jerry!

Be nicer to Coach or he'll leave and start living with another bunch of white people.

There were some hilarious lines in last night's episode.  One of them killed me, but I cannot remember it for the life of me.

"You look like you got caught by a fly-fisherman."

"Mr. T called. He wants to punch you because your earring looks stupid."

"For someone who has a soul mate, you sure did have sex with me."

Yessss! Thank you! This line slayed me.

"Captain Black Sparrow" although predictable, was great as well.

The Mr. T line was a definite highlight.

And Schmidt and Cece are soooooo cute together! Awwwwwww!

Unfortunately, the ratings plummet continues, the show got its lowest ratings yet.  Cougartown did better last night.

This show can't go... It's one of the few shows my wife and I watch together. And damn it I enjoy it.

Schmidt + broken penis = Fun times.   Also, best thing about the show right now is the budding romance between CeCe and Schmidt.  It's not sappy and doesn't weigh the show down.

I'm wondering if the main problem is the show is titled, "New Girl" when it's (now) more of an ensemble.   And friends I was visiting two weeks ago, got me to watch that week's latest episode.  That was my introduction to the show.  I love the latest episodes (where it's more ensemble) than the earlier eps.  It better not get canceled!  It's really growing into its comedy legs.

A second season was announced a few weeks ago, so there's no need for hand wringing.  It'll be back.

This killed me, especially since Happy Endings is another guilty pleasure of mine.  Hope that returns as well.

meemeep

Odd that the script didn't connect the coyote encounter with the White Fang runner. Oh well, there was enough going on.

Happy Endings is awesome, no need to feel guilty about it.

Some funny stuff but a horribly paced and clunky mess of a finale. Of course everything is back to square one. I hate when shows do that.

Oh man, every single joke about Winston's earring floored me. I love that even when Jess was freaking out about sleeping with her ex she was getting in jabs at Winston. It's that kind of banter that really makes this show fun.

This story line is by far my favorite. It's had a nice build since the beginning of the show and has really developed into a strong centerpiece of a somewhat scattered show.

Overall I love this show, but that was a bad, cowardly finale.

Thread Starter

yeah the finale was a bit of a mess. Although I could probably watch Schmidt dance for a whole episode. I really hope the Schmidt - CeCe thing is brought back  next year.  I really loved the way they have handled this weird relationship.

So, it returned last night.  Seems fairly consistent with the first season.  I did, however, think a few jokes in both episodes fizzled.

Am I crazy though?  Max Greenfield seemed to be doing some super weird shit with his mouth.  Like Jim Carrey/Ace Ventura style.  Was it like that in the first season and I just didn't notice?

I'm backing being annoyed with Deschanel. Every time she was onscreen I cringed. The stuff with Nick and his older self was great though.
