I dissect the unsavory subtext of Victor Salva's Jeepers Creepers:

http://shloggshorrorblog.blogspot.com/2012/09/jeepers-creepers.html

Glad to see I am not alone in my appreciation of Jeepers Creepers.  I just picked up the recently released Blu and look forward to revisiting it as Halloween approaches.  I hope he finally gets the trilogy capper, Jeepers Creepers III: Cathedral (oh looky, Catholic imagery from a pedo!), off the ground next year like he plans to.  While the second wasn't as good, it's still a damn solid horror effort.  In the meantime, I believe he just had his latest, Rosewood Lane (a thriller about a murderous 20-something paperboy!), just hit DVD/Blu and he has a ghost flick, Haunted, due out next year.  I think I might just see if I can get the former in next from Netflix.

I'm actually working on a director-centric project for the main site that should be on-going if I can get it perfected.  Your piece just reminded me that Victor Salva would be a fantastic candidate for it at some point, especially since I haven't seen too many of his films.

Also, read the wiki entries for his films Rites of Passage and Nature of the Beast.  I don't think your opinions (which echo my own and countless others) are all that far from 100% fact.

Thanks so much for reading S.D. and for commenting.  Pretty sure you're the only one who does so lol.  In any case, I'm glad someone else can not only appreciate the films in spite of the directors horrible actions, but is likewise fascinated by the mortifying psychological implications they represent.  I love searching for subtext in film (especially in my favorite genre, horror), and Jeepers Creepers is practically overflowing with it.  The sequel is kind of laughable, both as a horror entry and for its embarrassingly obvious allusions to Salva's issues, but is highly entertaining nonetheless.  I'm interested in part 3, if it ever materializes.

Looking forward to your aforementioned "director-centric" project!  Thanks again for the feedback, it's always much appreciated.

Since Halloween's right around the corner, you should check out this satirical horror/comedy short that takes a ridiculous approach to genre tropes and cliche's!

Might not be so laissez faire after all.  Let's just say that things are brought to light in the new one that kinda make it possible for all 5 current films (yep, even the TV movies) to co-exist in-continuity with one another.  I just finished watching it.  I need to mentally digest it some more before offering cohesive thoughts, but I loved it and can't wait to read your own thoughts on the film.

Definitely!  I thought it was fantastic and I went in with no real strong opinion about Korrine either way.  Very excited for his next film now. Thanks for reading and staying in touch good sir!

It was my first Korrine experience and I definitely plan on giving his other work, past and future, a look.  The showing I caught was packed and I'm pretty sure only two other people actually liked it.........and they happened to be an elderly couple!

Judging by how large the crowd was when I saw it at 1005am on Friday, it might just have a decent weekend.  Hopefully word of mouth will propel it to an expansion and greater success.  I don't think it's nearly as obtuse as some are making it out to be.  It's a damn fine melodrama that should appeal to a cross section.

Episode 15 of my podcast The Wayne Gale Variety Hour, Danno's Horror Homework!  In which my co-host Danno has watched 5 horror films he's never seen before and we discuss them at length and in-depth.  Graveyard Shift, Phantasm 2, From Beyond and both of Rob Zombie's Halloween films.  We also talk about the excellent Hannibal series on NBC, review The Lords Of Salem and complain bitterly about perceived slights.  Enjoy!
