What? A director wants Fassbender in his movie?

I bet they go the Iron Man 2 route, and have the actor wear a real helmet, and CGI the suit. No way they get these prima donna actors of today in a difficult costume. I guess what I'm saying is, Peter Weller was the man.

I'm getting tired of Fassbender being the only guy anyone can think to cast in their geek property movie. He can't play everyone.

I love Weller's gait and robo movements, and respect what he had to go through with the suit, but I also remember that Weller's had spent months devising a special robo walk he planned to deploy for the film, and was deeply frustrated when the suit - because of restricted movement (Robo couldn't even get out of a car) - made his plans a no go

What you see in the film is his fallback movement style, ginned up on the quick after a brief shutdown of the film when he had panic attacks in the costume the first days of shooting

If you get a gifted physical actor, perhaps CGI (though hopefully blended with practical elements) would allow for a new kind of Robocop we have not seen before

........ though I am still disappointed as hell this isn't an going to be an Aronofsky joint

Not that he doesn't want Fassbender, as your article states - who wouldn't, but Padilha was apparently led by a naughty journo

Agreed.  And I really like the guy, but I always get twitchy when getting told over and over how great someone is.

Fassbender's great, but he isn't needed to play Robocop. No offense to the awesome Peter Weller, but pretty much anyone with any physical presence could play Robocop.

Why'd they cast all those shitty actors in Robocop 3 and the tv series/movies?

God damn it's nice watching Fassbender become seriously hot property right now after following the guy so closely since 300.

Fassbender & Hardy - this decades Oldman & Roth.

Fassbinder's great to people like us, but he might soon start to veer into, "This guy is in ever movie, who is he again?" territory. I hope that doesn't happen, he's a lot of fun to watch, but taking Robocop is a good way to overexpose himself.

Yeah, what the hell is Nathan Fillion up to these days?

Dude made it big with his hit show Castle, which is now in its fourth season.  Like Bruce Campbell, he easily can get by for the moment without being fancast in every single damn project that is announced.

I wouldn't mind seeing Guy Pearce as a sleeker Murphy/Robocop.

Well, I think once in the suit (either practical or cg), he will look considerably bulkier even if they go for a relatively sleek design

BTW: I think this is an excellent suggestion. The chin alone warrants his nomination. I like Fassbender quite a bit, but Pearce would nail it. Currently my first choice

I suggest you rewatch the horrible Wellerless Robocop sequel and tv films to see this argument debunked.
