The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection

Two of the best looking and unique PS2 games have finally been updated to HD. I just got the collection in the mail from Amazon and am greatly looking forward to diving in, partly because I've lost my old copy of Shadow of the Colossus.

Anyone else plan on picking this up?

Very tempted, considering I adore Shadow, and never got to play ICO.  Would be pricy, since I'd have to buy a PS3 first, but between these and The Last Guardian, it may be time.

I'm definitely picking it up in the future along with the Silent Hill and Metal Gear remakes, probably when they all drop in price. This year is chock full of so many good releases.

Alright.  PS3 just won the console wars with me.  Have had a 360 for a while.  It has broken down numerous times, and I am done getting it fixed.  My girlfriend hinted at getting me a new one for Christmas.  This changes everything.  I was actually about to go on Craigslist to find a cheap PS2 to play Ico and SOC, the only two PS2 games I have kept a hold of, even though I haven't had a PS2 in years.  My TV only goes up to 720p, so the whole BluRay thing has been a non issue for me, but this seals the deal.  Besides, I can still play most Microsoft games on my PC.

I liked Shadow, but man did the controls just flat out suck.  I like difficult games, but not when its due to battling the controls rather than enemies or puzzles.  Still, its a cool game, but I doubt it ages well at all, controls are just too shoddy.

I recently picked up a used copy of the original Shadow of the Colossus for my PS3, having never played it before.

Fun game. Cool Music. But I'll have to agree with Nabster regarding the controls. They kind of sucked. It's like the game designers purposely programmed some kind of clumsiness algorithm into the character. You get used to them eventually, but they're far from user-friendly.

I'd be curious to see how it fares with an HD upgrade as it was definitely a beautifully rendered game. Although, one might be inclined to complain that all that beautiful rendering was for naught since the game does not encourage or reward exploration.

Also, fuck that stupid horse.

I haven't yet replayed Shadow of the Colossus so I can't really say if the control scheme has changed. I get the feeling that I'm not the best judge of that anyway as I have no memory of disliking the control scheme so it must have not bothered me much.

That's not entirely true. There are fruit trees placed throughout the world that will increased the max on your climbing stamina. Granted the game doesn't tell you about this, but it is a reward for exploration. If you find them all you'll have just enough stamina to climb to the roof of the temple and uncover some special areas.
