Tom Hanks frustrates me these days. The man has always has put out some solid entertainment, and has always showed an appreciation of history, especially American history. But this and that Walmart movie just seem so vapid and pandering, especially compared to Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers etc.

Is it that Hollywood doesn't want to make a substantive film with him as the lead? Or is there an assumption people will flock to a Tom Hanks flic sight unseen? Or is it the most dreadful possibility of all; the man has lost his judgement on what constitutes a solid script?

I hope Max Von Sydow's character is revealed to have sinister intentions in the third act!
