Uncharted 3: DRAKE'S DECEPTION - Page 3

Ahahahahahaah, yeah it was you!

You bastard!

I agree that the game isn't a 10/10.  Still a cool experience though.  I didn't know about the ability to change difficulty, so I just powered through the difficult parts over and over.

Uncharted 3 is love/hate for me right now.  I love a lot of the game, but there are also many frustrating things about it.  Not the least of which are insanely retarded difficulty spikes.  Having played through both previous Uncharted games, I should be able to make it through the new one on normal difficulty without many issues.

And yet I am completely stuck in the ballroom on the cruise ship.  I have attempted it many different times, in several different ways, and I have yet to get past it.  I'm sorry, but having two snipers and a grenade launcher guy on an upper level while armored shotgun guys and several other enemies swarm you on the lower floor is not fun.  It's fucking annoying and frustratingly stupid.  It's gotten to the point that I get one-shot killed from the grenade launcher guy on one life, followed by a one-shot death from a shotgun the next, followed by a one-shot death from the snipers the next.  I've tried quickly taking out the snipers and the grenade launcher guy first thing, but they just get replaced by new guys and I get killed by the enemies on the floor.  I've tried running underneath the balcony so the snipers can't see me, but there's not really any great cover up there.

Which brings me to the most annoying thing they've done to this game.  Why bother having a cover based shooter when every single fucking enemy just runs up to you at once?  You either get overrun trying to take out the guys in the distance by enemies flanking you up close, or you get killed by the guys in the distance while you're running around taking care of the closer enemies.  Or you get shotgunned in the back while in the middle of a melee fight with an enemy that was completely isolated mere seconds before.

The way the enemies acted in Uncharted 2 worked well with the style of game.  You could take cover and shoot enemies, getting into several awesome firefights.  They would still flank you, but they just went about it differently or somewhat less aggressively or something.  There were a few frustrating parts, but nothing ever came close to the level of frustration I've had in parts of Uncharted 3.

There have been parts of UC3 that have been great, and there have been parts where I want to go kick everyone at Naughty Dog in the balls.  It's really ruined the flow of the game for me as I've gotten so frustrated at times that I've put the game down for days before coming back to it again....only to get frustrated again and start the process over.  Maybe I'll get it finished one of these days.

I know that fight and hated it also. I eventually succeeded by sniping at least one of the guys upstairs, then doing a big runner under the balcony. I must have gone completely grey but I survived.

There is a sniper hand-gun on the stage behind the spawn point that might help out too.

That was tough, but I passed it in a few tries. The part that gave me the most trouble in the whole game, was the cargo area just before you get onto the plane. Many, many retries.

Hahahaha, I spent forever on that cargo area.  But I actually had fun with that one, as frustrating as it got.

That ballroom on the ship.  Ugh.  That one really did test my patience.

One part that gave me a lot of trouble was the ship and the constant swaying back and forth and avoiding the cargo containers, as well as the armored man. I died so many times before I figured out that I needed to kill that guy and take his grenade launcher to kill the armored man.

That and having to avoid the flood of water into the ship, as well as the ballroom. Glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble and was frustrated there.

Loved the game a lot and am definitely going to play it again soon.

I just remembered about the damn Djinn soldiers at the section towards the end of Nate's hallucination. Took a lot of running around and shooting to finally kill those bastards.

What helped me there was the heavy weapons off to the side. Once I learned those were there that part wasn't too bad.

To be fair the desert environment was a totally new thing they were experimenting with this time. It was pretty breathtaking.

They already did arctic, icy environments in Uncharted 2.

What I'd like to see in 4 is a focus on a city environment... Just imagine the sorts of set pieces they could come up with in a big metropolitan city.

We should probably keep our expectations in check for Golden Abyss. I'm expecting something on the level (graphically and stylistically) of the first one, with some tweaks to the gameplay, to make it play a little more like the second and third games.

Anyone still playing this in multiplayer? The new maps are fantastic. I think they're the first original maps as DLC, as the others were just reworked maps from 2.
