FIFA 12

I just started playing FIFA 12 for 360 the other day and I must say it's the greatest sports game I've ever played.  I usually just plau head to head online, but there was always a problem with people quitting.  It looks like they are solved this problem (at least for the moment) with the "head to head seasons" mode.  Basically, you have a certain number of games to accumulate points in order to be promoted to the next level up.  I ended up 4-3-3 or something on level 9 and got promoted to level 8.  It's a nice feature.  Anyway, some dude quit on me right after I won and it gave me the same "Connection with Opponent is Lost" bullshit you usually get.  However, a second message popped up saying something lie "determining winner based on blah blah blah".  Therefore, it looks like if someone quits or connection is lost, FIFA can still register the win for you.  That's a main fix from last year's model.

As for the game play, the removal of the "B" button to call a 2nd defender over is fantastic.  Now, the LB is used to have a 2nd defender sort of hold his ground to help you if you're defending 1 on 1.  It's a huge change, because the LB is an awkward button to get to in regards to other controls in the game.  It makes you really have to defend 1 on 1 and get a player in front of you.  The precise dribbing is also a nice feature as you can have better control of dribbling while keeping the ball in play easier making for a more realistic game.  The new animations are crazy too.  Last night, I successfuly slide tackeld Ashley Young with one defender and had another defender over to help.  Young had no where to go after getting snuffed with the tackle and fell backwards into my other defender who was on the ground and rolled over him to the ground.  Hard to explain, but it seems that every collision is monitored so to speak and it registers realistically.

I haven't even got into any other game modes besides head to head seasons and I'm loving tyhe game so far.  Go out and get it.

And if you want a difficult challenge, challenge me.  Gamertag is KnubbyJeezelBub.  (I''m actually not that great.  I got too stoned sometimes and revert back to "B Button" madness.  That button know creates a tackle.  Gets me in ddep trouble until i get used to it).

I think Fifa 2012 is best one every, totally diferent style.

I'd probably have to agree with your statement about it being the greatest sports game ever.

The more I play, the more impressive this becomes. The impact engine, the new levels of defense, the depth.

I'm currently taking Arsenal through the premiership league. Van Persie left my team in disgust after I bad mouthed another manager, so I stole Tevez from Man City to be my leading striker in the closing hours of the seasons transfer window along with beefing up my defense. I've now got a rather formidable team, except Tevez just went out for 3 months with a torn hamstring. Luckily both Gervinho and Chamakh are on form right now.

There's just so much to this damn game - it's definitely the most impressive sports title I've ever seen.

ETA: Bah, now almost my entire beefed up defense are out with various injuries as well - I know I run them hard but damn.

ETA(again): In the time Tevez has been out, Chamakh has stepped up to become my lead striker - this guy was ready to jump ship and be transferred after not being played enough, now he's the breakout star of the season second only to Tevez himself as the years top goal scorer.

Yeah the amount of depth in this game is astounding.

Fuck, basically the same thing happened with me and my Man Utd team. I didnt make any trades or anything during the transfer window since I wanted to play through with the same team as actually exists right now. I lost Ashley Young for 3 months in the first game, Rio Ferdinand for three weeks in the next game, and Chicharito and Rooney for two weeks in the fourth game of the season.,

I'm realizing that the best team to field isn't necessarily about stars as much as it is about depth of talent. Guys I never would have thought to rely on now seem like valued assets when your big names have to sit out months of a season. While the big names I got in the first transfer window were guys like Tevez and Julio Cesare in goal, it's the lesser midfielders who don;t even always start like Jesus Navez and Thomas Vermaelen who have become the backbone of my Gunners.

There's nothing worse than having so many injured guys you don't have enough players overall and have to forfeit a game - god that kills me.

I played a little bit of this at my friends place this past weekend. It seemed like such a lame game and slow paced compared to NHL 12. But for some reason I really want to buy it. So... it wouldn't surprise me if I return to this thread tomorrow evening to declare my purchase of the game.

Yeah, I've definitely made use of shuffling guys like Berbatov, Cleverley, Fletcher, Nani, Park, and Welbeck to back up Rooney. Damn this Man U team is stacked...just looking at the players I have in reserve and as subs there's practically a whole starting 11 worth of good players.

What kind of slider settings are you guys using? And on what difficulty are you playing. I'm tired of blowing every team I play out of the water.

I withheld the temptation. I also wanted to get F1 2011 but with Arkham City coming out next week, I needed to hold off. I'll wait to see if a trade in comes in soon.

I'm trying to bust through the head to head season to see if I can reach level 1, but it's proving pretty difficult.  I've had 4 promotions and 1 relegation, so I am currently on level 7.  Im a dickhead at trying to hold a lead and that seems to be my major problem.  I even tried passing it around for 10 minutes just to keep a win, but since I suck sometimes, my opponent stole it and tied the game in the 90th minute.  I was furious, but I also brought it upon myself.  I love the fact that it records a win or loss when someone quits on you.  That's my favorite part of the game.

Haven't gotten into the career mode, but I probably won't with COD, Skyrim, and Assassin's Creed all on the way.

Still stuck on level 7 in H2H seasons.  This game makes defending really tough, but I love the challenge and it's definitely the most realistic soccer game ever created.  I also love how every game in H2H means something now (as far as promotions/relegations go, anyway).  The fact that I've spent 3 H2H seasons on Level 7 is simultaneously frustrating and fair.  It creates a sense of importance everytime you begin a game.  The Cup Window is a nice touch too.  Anyway, I had a highlight goal when Steven Gerrard absolutely blasted one from way outside the box into the top right corner.  Easily the longest goal I've ever scored in my FIFA career.  You know it's satisfying when your opponent sends you a message at the half saying "Best strike ever against me".  Then, he scores in the 88th minute to win 4-3 and I want to hurl my controller through the window.

Can't wait to get back to it tonight though.

This and Horde mode for Gears of War 3 are occupying my time until Skyrim comes out.  Also, I finished Dead Island and I feel that I have way more fun jumping into someone's co-op and just helping them dominate zombies with my upgraded weapons.  The game isn't perfect by any means, but it's a hell of a lot of fun sometimes.  If riding in the back speeding truck blasting dead dudes with a magnum isn't fun, I don't know what is.  Sorry, got off topic a bit.

Yeah getting my head around the changes to defense, not just in extra buttons used, but in the way it totally slows down and changes the rhythms of the game. No longer can you send a defensive man off his mark hurtling towards an opponent with the ball for a crunching tackle, now it's all about shutting down your opponents forward momentum, closing down their options while holding your line. The fact that there are now at least 2-3 extra buttons to use - often all at once - to do this makes for a challenge that definitely takes time to master.

Here are a couple of good sites I can recommend for those of you having trouble, they changed my whole attitude on how to approach tactical defense.

Even for those of you that think you have a handle on it, there's some helpful hints in those links.

I only really took my first fledgling steps applying what I'd learned last night but it already paid dividends, with me controlling the midfield a lot more than I ever used to (which was very little frankly) and thus dictating the flow of the game rather than just reacting to turnovers like I used to rely on.

Fucking hell. I just lost Rooney for 3 months to a broken ankle. He's going to be tough to replace for that long.

Exactly what I thought when I lost Tevez - you'll be amazed who steps up to fill the gap - take a close look at who among his replacements has the best form and attitude for starters.

I'll probably end up using Berbatov and Welbeck

Well Arsenal just won the league premiership and the FA Cup. I'm staring down the barrel of another season with the Gunners, but part of me is tempted to start a new career with a much smaller poorer European team (I'm eyeing FC Mallorca) and see how far I can take them - or see if I get a good enough season or two out of them that I get some good offers to manage other teams.

Decisions, decisions.

So all these video game blogs are reporting people have been having their xbox accounts hacked, and the poopertrators are using their ill gotten booty to play some FIFA. Time to fess up guys, we know it's one of you.

What annoys me about the headlines is the general vagueness of the reporting. "Oh, random forum poster at boohoo.com forums says their brother of this guy had this thing happen to him and then he told his cousin, who told me; so now we're running it as news, because why not?" How wide spread is the hack, is it limited to two people in the entire world who just have dumb microsoft live verification questions, did they share the same passwords/questions on their ps3 (but didn't have the sense to change the xbox ones), are their personal computers infested with trojans/keyloggers, or is there a genuine hack that happened to Microsoft's service?

I ran my fake self into injury in my last game against Toronto. Out for two weeks, run little sonic the hedgehog and score that breakaway...no god damn you don't start that cool looking charlie horse animation, no keep running...*over dramatic chang like scream*...

Hahahaha. I know that animation far too well. Had the same thing happen to Chicharito a couple games ago.

The thing about Arsenal is, they always try to walk it in.

I'm up to Level 4 now in H2H seasons and I can tell you that the competition gets significantly better.  It was easier to rush the ball carrier, since most players would panic and turn the ball over, especially if you use the "help" button (RB).  Now, you have to hold your ground a lot better and make the opponents make the mistake.  Slowing the game down and creating your own pace really helps you stay competitive.  I'm starting to get addicted (if I haven't already), and I'm trying my best to get to Level 1.  I can't wait to see what the competition is like if I ever get there.  Also, starting at Level 5, you have to earn 18 points rather than 16 to advance.  That's almost an extra win per season.  It's hard, but very rewarding.

Funny/Most Rewarding victory.  Played some A.D.D. dipshit the other day while I was doing work from home.  I had to send out these reports, so I just let the pre-game cut scenes play out, since I needed some time.  Well, that dude wasn't too happy.  I heard some gems such as "Let's go, faggot!"  "Who watches this shit?!"  And, "You're probably sucking your mom's dick, so it's fine."  He was clearly very clever.  Needless to say, I was pretty focused now and he suddenly quit when I went up 2-0.  i followed up with simple message of "Wow.  You're terrible."   Very satisfying.

Lol. It took me 85 minutes to get a shot in my first H2H game, by which point I was already losing 3-0. I am just terrible at this...just lost 3-0 again, atleast this time i had 10 shots

I'm still hooked on career mode - I'm running FC Mallorca through their paces in La Liga, snared aussie Socceroo superstar Mark Schwarzer as my goalee, grabbed Crespo as my lead striker and then, with three hours left in the first transfer window of the season, secured David Beckham as his forward partner. Suddenly little old FC Mallorca is looking rather formidable. We're coming into mid season now, I've been doing a lot more trading players in and out to save on tiring them out and hopefully avoiding injury - and here we are, neck and neck with FCB at the top of the table.

So much fun.

Yeah, this is the first time I've touched H2H. It's pretty fun...really challenging. Finally won in my 3rd game, against a guy playing as Real Madrid.

I've played a bunch of seasons now.  I got to level 4, played like an asshole and got relegated.  Then, I played one level 5 season and missed promotion again by 1 game.  I couldn't score.  Hit the post 3 times and almost broke the controller.  The real bitch is that I was up 1-0 in one game and dominating and I lose connection to the EA server.  It resulted in a bullshit loss.  If I win that, I'm back to level 4 goddammit.

It seems when I focus on the actual soccer game, ball movement, and how the players move instead of trying to rush the ball carrier, I play a lot better.  Need to realize, the game is 12 game minutes long, not 2.  Tough staying focused for a whole game, but that's a fun part of the challenge.

It's so satisfying when you score in this game, since it's so challenging, but it's also super frustrating if scored upon.  Cup window is open.  Looking for the Continental Cup this time (I was eliminated in round 1 of the EA Cup back when I was in level 8).
