SAVE THE WEEKLY CHUD VIDEOS!

I hope the videos can be saved. I watched the BEST OF video, and it was clear that alot of time and attention had gone into their production

People would share the videos if they liked them, no? I mean, I see people sharing CHUD articles on Facebook all the time. Never the videos. Not sure how begging helps.

I love how when a chud venture isn't successful, the immediate assumption is that the readers/viewers are the ones who aren't pulling their weight.

A. People often forget that the little things they can do to spread the word helps us immeasurably.

 

B. This is hardly begging: "So, if you want us to keep doing them, maybe have a peek at the episodes and whatnot. See if it’s worth supporting.

Either way, they’ve been fun to do and a great exercise. No hard feelings either way."

 

C. I don't much want to have the time suck devoted to them, but if the readers really want them we'll gladly do it. I'd rather not do them. From my seat that's us trying to give the readers the choice.

The traffic clearly isn't there, just pack it in.  Focus SOLELY on whatever will get you hits, so those waiting on their paychecks can finally get paid.

another thing: There are some privacy settings that remove the videos from youtube's search engine. Might be a double edged sword, as people glancing youtube wouldn't be able to find out about CHUD.com, but this does fairly limit to only watching on the site.

This of course isn't fool proof. Removing all links to youtube is a violation of their terms and what not.

Now another idea:
Post random days small videos of just recaps hosted on the site. Probably need a hot girl to do it.

When I uploaded a slideshow of the RiffTrax interview from The Morning Screw, tags were a big part of getting hits. It helped that the content included Twilight and the popularity of RiffTrax on YouTube was also a big factor. The video has had 4,502 views since last October and it's all from name-dropping through tags.

 

I hate to condone phishing, but maybe adjusting the tags to fit the associated content an option.

Your perception software is off if you read this as a beg. It's a threat. And it's a fair call. And it scares me.

 

I know I've said it before but I think the main thing that keeps these from really catching fire is the length. There are enough segments that theoretically they could be released on a Mon/Wed/Fri schedule as separate 3-5 minute videos instead of one whack of 14-15 minutes. That running time will turn a lot of people off because it feels like a commitment. I mean, I love these things but I end up waiting days to watch them because I feel like I need to find a decent-sized window of time to fit them into. For us busy/ADD fuckers it's much easier to find 3-5 minute windows than 14 minute ones.

 

I don't know how much more work that would be for Renn to separate them - I'm guessing too much - but I just know that I watch a lot of 3-5 minute videos and only one 14-15 minute video a week. If I see a run time like that on a non CHUD video, even if it features people or subjects I like, I almost never even give it a shot.

Every major review and news article should have a video component. Then we can form video playlists (I'm sure also we might get some video adverts )!

Apparently I missed all the goings-on in this thread.  For the record, I've never had any problems getting a hold of Nick.  We had a nice chat just yesterday.  So there's that.  Also, people rolling back through the boards just to vent their contempt make me sad.  Let it go, move forward.

 

And on topic - I really like the videos - one of my favorite parts of the site.  Hopefully they stick around.

We didn't do one this week. Guess we'll see what happens.
