Possible dual-rating shoot idea gets tossed out in interview.

Yes, because sailing for this has been so smooth that FOX would jump at the chance to add an extra layer of complexity to satiate us fanboys.

Sort of funny what a neutered mess the first movie was considering how the game (which from what I understand was based on early ideas for the script) was so fucking gory. Jamming random thugs' heads into the helicopter blades cracked me up every time, and if I remember correctly the game opens with you basically exploding a guy by landing on him from a helicopter. For a guy who's gimmick is getting horribly maimed on a regular basis (and doing the same to others), you'd think R would be a given.

Daniel Benioff also said that when he wrote the first film, he had written an R-rated script. Eight thousand re-writes later and... yeah.

Jackmans very cleverly walking both sides of the street here so that when the final FOX-neutered bullshit gets served up to a rousing chorus of indifference, he can at least keep cred with the net crowd by saying "but, but I wanted Darren Aronofsky!", "but, but, I wanted an R-rating!"

Smart Hugh. Very smart.

No whats smart is Hugh cashing that paycheck.

Thats where the intelligence in this picture begins and ends. Mangold usually is passable.

Doing a sequel to Wolverine is hopeless. Aronofsky leaving pretty much put the kiss of death on this for me.

Fox did an outstanding job this summer on its prequels but Wolverine is a tad too obvious. If you are going to do this kind of movie you have to give it an edge (pardon the pun).

Thats just not going to happen here.

I think the problem lies in the fact that they can't really sort out what gross they should be expecting. Apparently, XOW's nearly 400m is deemed not enough, so would X3's nearly 500m be sufficient? Or are we looking at Iron Man's 600m? Spider-Man's 800m? Batman's billion? Can we get a sixth Wolverine appearance to at least 700m?

I'd suggest to simply recast and restart, as a Fast Five moment is unlikely to happen. I think Jackman's great in the role and most of his movies would actually have been better, had he played them as Wolverine (Australia, Kate & Leopold, Deception, Scoop, Van Helsing, Swordfish) but if they really want the big bucks, better not get dellusional. I think most people have seen enough of him in that role, and it's not like he ever brings anything new to the character. He's fun and personally I wish him the best, but unless they get someone like Bay, Spielberg or Nolan I highly doubt a seventh or eight appearence will ever get him in Batman's heights.

Exactly my thinking.  He remembers being on the fanboys' bad side when he was initially cast, and he has gone out of his way, more so than any actor I've seen who has played a comic-book character (Downey included) to ingratiate himself to them ever since.  Even when everyone was bitching about how Wolverine:Magic Bullet sucked, I can't remember anyone saying anything negative about Jackman personally. It was all about the film itself.  Hugh's the Teflon Don of comic book movies.

Hugh is great and does a great job. Its the Pierce Brosnan syndrome. He was a terrific Bond just a terrific Bond in absolutely shitty Bond films.

The fucking script Hollywood. Its simple its the foundation. Then you get a filmmaker with vision and chops to helm it.

Not the guy who did Tsotsi. Which was a great film but not a great film to jump into the Wolverine sandbox. Not Brett Ratner either.

Get a filmmaker. Mangold will be passable. He'll get the film made and nothing will be terrible per say but how good will it be?

Vegas odds are looking not good.

Translation: The Blu Ray will have some CG blood and a badly overdubbed f-word.

I don't see Fox doing that. I do see them releasing the theatrical cut and the supposed directors/unrated cut separately though.

Which will piss off fans even more. Especially with so much CG blood.
