"Beautifully shot and thematically resonant, Footloose is a remake that earns its place as a classic teen movie for a new generation."

Okay. So, I've woken up in Bizzaro World.

Was skeptical about this. But definitely going to check this out now.

Mmm, good review.

And good movie. It's like a love letter to Julianne Hough's hips. I approved.

Shouldn't this be in the Focused Film Discusion section?

The wonder of Footloose cannot be contained in one thread!

I very nearly nearly loved this.

It's such a fun movie.  I wanted more dance sequences, but the ones that were in the film were thrilling.

It's a strange film.  It feels like it's playing to conventions, but its narrative felt really loose.  Or sloppy.  When the film ended, I went, "That was it?"  I thought there was still more story to go.  It never felt like it built to anything as opposed to things eventually just happening.  The film felt like it had a lot of stuff cut.

But despite that... I DID want more.  I loved the setting.  I loved the actors.

Brewer really should do a full-on musical.  I kinda wished that this film was.

(I've never seen the original film, by the way...)

Finally. Finally. A remake that's worth the watch. The audience in my theatre really dug this.

Realistic characters. Great music. Fun dance sequences. The difference between this and the STEP UP films is that you can really tell the characters love dancing and the emotion they put into them. Loved the way that they made the adults sympathethic. Especially Dennis Quaid. I know that whole sequences are almost identical to the original, but i didn't mind. It still works fantastically. Julianne Hough sure has some hot looks as well.

What a pleasant, joyful surprise that turned out to be. Brewer is now three for three for me. I was hesitant with this because I love Brewer and him making a remake for MTV films made me nervous. But this is very much his movie. He especially adressed one of my biggest complaints with musicals and dance movies. For movies full of beautiful people, dancing and singing in often revealing clothing they tend to feel as sexy as a cold fish. Especially the newer ones. It's like the people making them are afraid to gaze upon their actors. Like you're watching gymnastics in the Olympics. Not so with this.

It's sexy and it's sweaty and it's the right amount of dirty and it's fun and it wisely keeps the original's signature songs. So much fun. I'll be revisiting this a lot.
