Gore and tits-fest moves somewhere into the haze of 2012
post #2 of 32

Oh NO!

I loved Piranha 3D.  So as snarky as my exclamation may sound, it really is too bad that this isn't boding well.

The Amityville movie is being done by the dude who made the "Never Sleep Again" doc.

He also wrote Halloween 6.  Let's not get too excited.

Prediction:  Both will be dumped into theaters in March or April.  The Weinsteins need franchises, so they will hope both will take off..........but they won't spend enough dough on marketing to help it happen.

By the way, I thought Amityville was scheduled for a January 2012 release, not a Fall 2011 one?

To be fair, 15 years ago, when he was 26, so who knows what's up his sleeve circa 2011. Anyhow, Chud covered the announcement of the movie back in May: http://www.chud.com/52719/found-footage-horror-movie-2382/

Yeah, it has been in the cards for awhile.  Hopefully it will turn out well.

Even though I'm among the first movie's biggest fans here, Aja's absence dulls my disappointment.

Seconded. His mean spirited zeal for gore is what made the first movie, and without his involvement my interest is lower than it was for DECENT 2 without Neil Marshal

I wouldn't look too deep into this postponement. I mean, they rushed this into production, and probably haven't completed enough effects to justify a speedy promotional strategy. I think if this was really shitty, The Weinstein Company would have just rush-released it.

Between this and Machete, the Weinsteins are the Special Olympics of franchises.

Machete was distributed by Fox.

Thank Christ.

Exactly.

Didn't the exact same thing happen to the first one? Postponed a bunch of months, people seeing it as a sure sign of shittyness, Dimension drops the ball on marketing, barely anyone sees it, those who see it love it, sequel gets announced.

I'll see you all in two years in the Piranha 3DD: Threesome thread.

Yeah, it looks like they are definitely going to end up repeating their treatment of the first film.  It is rather ironic, considering the greenlit this sequel for the expressed purpose of making the money that they realized they COULD have made on the first one if they hadn't treated it like an unwanted child.

It's kind of baffling to me that the Weinsteins have been making movies for about as long as I've been alive, and yet they still don't seem to quite have the hang of it.

There is a joke about their association with Kevin Smith to be made here

added likes of Gary Busey and David Koechner to a cast that already boasted Hasselhoff, Ving Rhames and a borderline insane Chistopher Lloyd.

Wasn't Ving eaten? They're not doing a twin brother thing like DAY OF THE DEAD remake are they?

As a fan of the FEAST franchise, I want to support Gulager and I made a big mistake not seeing Part 1 in the theaters, but no Aja... and more importantly... no Kelly Brook, leaves me sad.

The Teaser was shown at the Scream Awards. Looks like its a direct sequel to the first film.

And yes, there are some huge boobs in it.

Bring me my leg.

Speaking of...the girls in the trailer brought me a leg.

If you know what I mean, and I think you do....

It looks direct to DVD.

It also looks awesome. So there's that.

I hope it won't go DTV.........................and I don't think it will.  The Weinsteins need a horror franchise.................at least until they get their big budget redos of Hellraiser and Children of the Corn going (as well as Halloween III and Scream V).

Shreds is right, this is exactly what happened to the first flick - exactly.

Except the first flick wasn't from the director of not a single good movie and the writers of the worst Saw movies and The Collector.

I'm not saying it'll be good, just that its being treated exactly the same.

OK, the fact that I like Feast 2&3 and The Collector is mostly due to bad taste..................................but the original Feast is fun as hell and more than enough to suggest that they could put together a good Piranha sequel.

Ok, a fun one, at least.

Feast is awful, it just has more money than the sequels.  Melton and Dunstan have one decent film to their name, Saw VI, and everyone on the planet credits that to Kevin Greutert instead of them.

Opinions vary,

I'll I'll be checking this out for sure now that I've seen the trailer (embedded one that woks)...

Ving Rhames with a prosthetic leg gun = you've got my money.
