Your favorite movie/music scene.

Thread Starter

What's your favorite movie/music scene. I mean what scenes just work out so perfectly because of the music being played during that scene?

My favorite comes from one of my personal favorite movies:

Groovy topic.

Never fails to give chills. It's perfection. The music is propulsive & untied to any genre or period, doing it's job is to build up suspense until the movie title locks full into view. When it does, Morricone pushes the gas pedal down & 'boom!', the movie fuckin' has us by the scruff of our necks. Incredible.

This is my favorite scene from I'm Not There:

I love everything about that scene.

Antonioni's Blow Up (1966)

The motionless crowd is such a clever, cinematic touch.

The scene in Taking Woodstock where Elliot (Demetri Martin) takes acid is one of my favorite music scenes in a movie.

Grosse Pointe Blank is loaded with brilliant needle-drops:

Kick Ass

Seriously, nobody's posted this one yet?

Though I also have a soft spot for this one — hippy-dippy Donovan as background for a pistol-whipping, gotta love it:

Wendy Carlos/A Clockwork Orange :

Iggy Pop/Trainspotting

[shit quality video]

Do opening/closing credits count here? Both of these songs are just perfect:

'the Crow': The use of NIN doing a cover of 'Dead Souls' (Joy Division) sends chills down my spine.  Watching the crow fily over the city while Eric runs along the rooftops...it's the perfect music for a really, really great moment.

I can't find the clip itself, but here's the video for the tune

It's cliche, but yeah...absolutely:

Dean Stockwell being a suave motherfucker...

The dark majesty of the Batman mythos, accompanied by Elfman's elegant score, is captured perfectly in this short scene from the '89 flick:

PERFECTION

'Vanishing Point'

I got the rockin'....rollin'...

Appopriate, considering my avatar and sig.  Adore this film.

Best opening credit sequence in the history of cinema? These devil-horns say YES.

It's a great song, and it's perfectly used and edited into the entire sequence.  It propels the emotion of the scene perfectly:

JB, get outta my brain! I was just thinking about Queen/Highlander!

'Crank'

There are many great instances, but the usage of Loverboy's 'Turn Me Loose' and Jefferson Starship's 'Miracles' is inspired.

Queen: 'Flash Gordon'.  In truth they absolutely nail the entire film.  This is arguably the best music right here, though:

One more and I'll stop...for now.

'The Empire Strikes Back', the asteroid sequence.  For me, this is the finest hour of John Williams right here.  You've got the Imperial March, the action music, and Han's theme all in one perfectly edited action sequence.

More QUEEN!!!!

(damn you, non-embeddable videos!!!)

Shaun of the Dead - Don't Stop Me Now

And because it's me...

Speed Racer - Reboot

How to Train Your Dragon - Test Drive

This thread can NEVER end.

one more, from 'The Deer Hunter'.  The way they all come in at the chorus of the song is one of those perfect male bonding moments.

The hypnotic, beautifully cathartic montage featuring Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" from Malcolm X:

It begins at 2.30

Going back to 'Kick-Ass': the scene where she shows up at the entrance to Mark Strong's building.  The Clint Eastwood 'Man with No Name' music drew huge cheers out of my audience.

Quite possibly the single hardest laugh that I've ever experienced in a movie theater:

@ Wayward_Woman:

ah, yes you did.  My apologies, I missed your post.

John Hughes' movies always had great music scenes. This is my favourite:

The Flowerpot Men - "Beat City"/Ferris Bueller's Day Off

The Royal Tenenbaums; Nico - These Days (Or pretty much any music cue in The Royal Tenenbaums).

Wayne's World; Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

And I'm preemptively calling bullshit on whoever posts that fucking Donnie Darko montage.

S'alright. It's good enough to posted twice! You have fine taste.

Speaking of John Hughes:

And we could sit here and list just about everything in Tarantino's movies, but this one still brings chills:

Bloody brilliant.

"O Fortuna"/Excalibur

"The Whistle Song"/Hanna

Kenny Loggins + Rick Rossovich's abs = The stuff of cinematic legend.

You thief! You should be ashamed of yourself. Watching this scene was the first time I remember crying with joy at a movie.

Edit: Dammit, it still does. Some pieces of art make me think I may have Stendhal Syndrome.

This has always been a favorite.  Such a mean ending for these characters, and its made even worse by the overall cheeriness of the tune / lyrics.

And for something more recent, how bout the opening credits to Drive.  Or actually: any part of Drive where there was music.

Moby's cover of Joy Division's "New Dawn Fades"/HEAT:

Starts at 1.00

Couldn't find the "Water Of Life" sequence but Brian Eno's music & David Lynch's imagery made for a brilliant marriage in DUNE:

Q Lazarus "Goodbye Horses"/Silence Of The Lambs

Never forget.

Lost in Translation.

Spoiler alert since it's the ending of the movie:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Yeah, that was a GREAT use of Jesus & Mary Chain. Good call.

Out of all the music sequences in Lost In Translation, this one holds the most magic (for me, at least):

Air - "Alone In Tokyo"

Kenji Kawai/Ghost In The Shell.

It starts around minute 2:

Words cannot express the brilliance of this sequence. My favourite use of music in film of the decade.

King Crimson - "In The Court Of The Crimson King"/Children Of Men

ArtDecade, I raise you:

'Buffalo 66' used 'Heart of the Sunrise' by YES perfectly.

Good call on Buffalo 66. I'd never heard any early YES until that movie. YES is fuckin' great.
