Deleted scene suggest one of the more interesting sequences in the movie was cut out.

They really just needed a lot more of the Howlin' Commandos overall. I mean, it wasn't THAT long a movie. And, y'know, Derek Luke and Neal McDonough have carried much bigger roles. At least Luke apparently pops up again in The Avengers.

Derek Luke?  How?  In flashbacks?  Old age make-up?  Some comic-booky thing?

That scene might not have changed anything, but it is indicative of what the film as a whole was missing. Maybe it was cut out because it looks so small in scope- though I'm not sure why they couldn't just add some airplanes or a couple background soldiers in post.

Small? To me it seemed pretty good.....especially the scenes of the Odin-Beams vaporizing soldiers. I wish they'd kept it in.

It would certainly have helped better illustrate what exactly was going on overseas while Cap was stuck prancing around for the general populace.

Totally agree, its a nice segway into the merging of the real war and the comic book stuff.

That was the thing that stuck out to me, the film was focused so squarely on Cap/Bucky that the commandos were sort of reduced to extended cameo territory. I'd almost have preferred it to be a bunch of random likeable redshirts, because then at least there wouldn't be that nagging expectation for them to, you know, do something. I suppose their role could be upped in a flashback-oriented sequel, but since they already mapped out Cap's role in the war pretty clearly (he blew up warehouses), I'm not sure how much is left to be explored.
