Well, the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Preseason poll came out the other day. As expected, my Heels start the season out on top, with an ALMOST unanimous #1 ranking (missed it by 1 vote).

Man, either Bob Knight is the ultimate taker of the piss or this is one more sign the guy has a borderline personality.

Interesting article on their relationship.

God, Knight's such a fucking nutball.

It is going to be a lot of fun watching Kentucky this season.  Go Big Blue!

Just don't get too attached to any final four banners you get!

As an Indiana University fan and alum, yes...Knight is a nutball, but damn it, he's Indiana's nutball!

Speaking of IU..looks like they might have one hell of a season. It helps that the schedule is pretty easy to boot.

As an SEC fan, I understand your blind devotion totally and completely. GO VOLS!

Anyone gonna make a chud bracket?

Go Noles.  That is all.

Go UNC. Number six.

Wow, FSU wasn't even ranked at the start of the season.  I thought they were in the 20s for some reason in the pre-season polls.  Finished #12 in one poll and #10 in another, I think.

ony 2 so far :(

I'm sure people are waiting to see how the first round games shook out.

Or the NIT.

Or the collegeinsiderWTF tournament.

I'll try and join up tonight when I get home. Although my Syracuse over Mizzou final, that I've already submitted to 2 other pools, will need to be re-thunk. Goddamn Jim Boeheim.

I'm in.

I'm in too.

I'm in, and my bracket is homer-iffic. Go MIZZOU!

Joining now. Also had Cuse in the finals, for obvious reasons. Leaving it there as a memorial for this incredibly odd season.

Let me add, I am going to get so tired of watching games on TruTV and this terrible, terrible scoreboard HUD. Your corporate logo and what round we are in do not need this much prime television real estate.

What the hell is going on in the Syracuse vs UNC Ashville game? These are the worst officials ever.

Fucking hell, Mizzou.....jesus christ.

I had FSU making the Elite Eight and felt like I dodged a bullet, and then Mizzou goes and pulls that crap.  They were only in my Final Four, that's all.

ESPN has two intact brackets left. Out of 6.45 million.

Do either of those two also have Lehigh?

Last year I had Louisville winning it all, and this year Mizzou........lord, have I been amazingly shitty these past 2 years.

I told my mom, I didn't understand how in the hell Duke was a two seed.  They didn't win the ACC in the regular season, and they didn't even make the finals in the ACC tournament.  And yet here they are.  And there they go.  Say g'nite, Mike.

I'm doing an experiment with one of my brackets--I'm mirroring the 2011 tournament in my picks.  And guess which bracket is doing the best so far?  20 wins out of 24 games.

Well, at least will deflect SOME of the heat off Frank Haith and Mizzou.

Not sure, but every perfect bracket has now been busted.

Jeez! That's crazy.

It's so nice watching Duke lose.

Have a feeling Florida may go far now.

See, I was banking on Florida's third demoralizing loss to Kentucky in the SEC tourney to knock the wind out of their sails and make the stumble in the first round.  But hell, let them go far, two of my regions are pretty much ruined anyway.

Yup, that's me on the bottom there. The same spot I'm in in all my pools. And not moving up anytime soon. For shame!

Dook sucks!

Austin Rivers is a disgrace for a point guard. Terrible shot selection, not even the greatest of shooters, tries to drive it way too much (maybe if he was like Wade or AI and actually consistently scored or got to the line by doing this he could continue driving). And how about his mind blowing 2.1 assists per game? Somehow with this, he made the final 16 list for the Wooden Award? Why because he was suppose to be this ultra superstar? What a complete joke.

It's been a long, sad stretch for my beloved Wolfpack, but the tide is turning. We're in the Sweet 16, and Duke went home to a 15 seed. It's a beautiful, beautiful day in North Carolina.

I actually had them going to the final 4 in one of my brackets.

Too bad about FSU...but I suspected as much.  They won the ACC this year for the first time ever, so I'll take that as a successful season.

You're an FSU fan, Martian? I haven't seen them play this year, but I was doing a preview piece for a Syracuse blog so I was digging in to their schedule and stats and trying to figure them out. What was their deal this year? 2-1 against both UNC and Duke, but weird bad losses all over the place and the highest turnover percentage I've ever seen for a respectable team.

Obviously, I ended up not needing to preview them and I didn't have any thing prepared for Cinci.

That's FSU basketball.  I cannot watch them play, because I would be dead from a heart attack by now.  I either wait and check scores, or follow the writers on Twitter.  They never seem to be happy unless they're behind.  Leonard Hamilton has brought a lot of things to the program, now including an ACC title, but he is defense, defense, defense, and then maybe we'll play a little offense along the way.  They very much tend to play to the level of their competition, thus the losses to Clemson, etc., and then the victories over UNC and Duke.  They have played like that always under Hamilton.  That 33 point win over UNC, everything was working for FSU--probably the only game all year that happened.  They get complacent, lose focus, etc., and a lot of the times, just don't seem to be motivated to play.  My mom and stepdad religiously watch them, but even they watch it delayed.  I just can't watch them unless I already know the score.  I thought they matched up well vs. OSU and then maybe even Syracuse, but when they play those scrappy teams, like Cincy and St. Bonaventure, they really have issues, because they're just as physical as FSU is.

But since 'cuse is coming to the ACC sooner than later...I guess they better get ready for a new big dog on the block.

FSU was one of the hardest teams for me to pick. Just so inconsistent. Realistically, they could've gone out in the first round or made it to the Final 4. There's really no reason why a team that big and athletic should have so much trouble scoring.

I had them going to the Sweet Sixteen in one bracket, and then winning it all in another (my fantasy bracket).  But I wasn't surprised that they got knocked out when they did.  And you're exactly right--I actually expected them to lose in the first round, but wouldn't have been surprised if they made it to the final 4.  Once again, that's why I can't watch them play basketball.  It's too painful.

Well Kentucky saved my ass in the CHUD bracket.  Ended up going 40-23 for the tourney and nailed both the final two teams.

Go Big Blue!

Countdown until this championship gets vacated?
