If you’ve missed the recent brouhaha over the E-Cat (which stands for Energy Catalyzer), you’re missing out on a three ring circus over a technology that will either change everything or change nothing because what is promised is, in theory, power too cheap to be worth metering.

Incredible if real, but the cynic in me is calling bullshit on this...

Fuck me, if it isn't a hoax, it'll probably save the species.

After reading some articles on the subject I'm a bit leery at how secretive the demonstrations for this supposed game-changer are.  I'm naturally a cynic but am cautiously optimistic that there may be a kernel here to work from.

Can't say that article impressed me much - more interested in ridiculously premature fantasies about a cheap energy utopia than telling us about the technology itself or how realistic the idea of such an energy revolution is.

Yeah, it wouldn't shock me at all if this turned out to be bunk.

At the same time, one of my clients is a company that works a lot in green tech.  There's some amazing shit out there.  We're working with a company out of Switzerland that was working on distributing a proven tech that solves the whole carbon capture issue of clean coal (making it actually clean).  Energy industry here in the US told them to fuck off and dared them to try and introduce it.  They brought it to China instead, who's now building 4 plants around the technology.

I could go on and on about some of the stuff that already exists, but long story short = lots of cool shit available and I wouldn't put it past these folks to have figured this out.

I guess we'll see next Friday.

Probably bullshit.

But oh, if it works! Post scarcity society here we come!

These guys have stick figure Spider-men in their design drawings specifying the workings:

I'll throw in with the "I call BS" crowd -- the diagrams don't make any sense (especially the lack of byproducts).

But, if it works, he should sell it for .... the amount of the Italian national debt!

USA! USA!

Um.. I hope it works?

Beyond that, I have nothing further to add.. except to say that if energy will be too cheap to meter, I want my incandescent light bulbs back, god damn it!!

The Closer, that's a horrible story, exactly the kind of BS that oil & coal have used to maintain a stranglehold on the energy industry.  It's just baffling and confusing.  I hope this energy revolution thing is the real deal but I can see any competition to Big Energy getting snuffed out.  That's what they've done for 100 years.

The countless billions at stake mean that certain interests (foreign governments, private shareholders, ETC) wouldn't hesitate to engage in espionage/threats/murder to hide or destroy such a discovery. Did you see CHAIN REACTION?

Keanu Reeves would save us all if we'd just let him!!!

I think your experiment just got a mind of its own!

It's all true, everyone. I didn't want to say anything and ruin the surprise, but I guess the cat's out of the bag now. We're saved!!

Initial Test is A Success; Sale Made

Been following this with glee, optimism and a healthy dose of 'This guy is so getting "disappeared"' conspiracy craziness. The test is quite secretive and nothing about the buyer has been released except 'big American company', but they were obviously impressed with what they saw and bought. I will not be surprised when the "corporation" is some shell of a shell of a shell of a smaller shell of Haliburton, but for now, I will eagerly await news on this as it is parceled out in the days and weeks to come. It's odd, I'm rather excited about there not being a huge press event, not up to the minute news and twitter commentary, it's quiet and, I do hope, successful. Maybe we'll mark today as...well, don't want to get ahead of myself.

If this really worked, literally our only hope is that it was purchased by APPLE. They're the only company with enough money to out bid the oil companies.. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the Syndicate (oil people all in league with each other - and the aliens*) made the purchase for the purpose of burying the tech

If you invent a method of power generation that could save the planet, and then sell it to interests that might hide it away... that's fucked up

Lets hope it was APPLE. Virtually anyone else, and you can believe we'll never hear about this again

*kidding about the aliens**

*?! am I ?!

My dad went straight into the energy industry when he got out of the Marines, coal and coal powered plants have been as important a part of my family as the military. He constantly brings the above up and how he tried and tried to get upper management to look at the tech and give it a chance. For it he got a "promotion" which actually does pay more but it's pretty much a dead end road so he's thrown up his hands and decided to just ride it out until he retires.

I'm all for cleaning up and eventually getting rid of "dirty" energy but I have a lot of family that could find themselves jobless if it happened too soon.

Holy fuck Kate..get a job with Apple already.

Kate,

With Jobs dead, I don't think there's a TITAN left in this world that could harness such power for good.
