Chuck: The 5th (and Final) Season

In just one week, the final season for Chuck airs on NBC. Considering how many times this show has escaped being cancelled, it is hard to believe the creative team gets to end the series on their own terms. Still not sure how I feel about Morgan being the new Intersect, but I look forward to seeing what twists the show takes now that it is wrapping up. What do the rest of you think?

Did this get pushed back a week due to the world series?  That trailer says the 21st.

My enthusiasm for the show has cooled over the last two seasons, but I'm glad they know this will be the last one and can (hopefully) end it properly.  I'll be watching, even though they'll never be able to top this:

ScottieFerguson, No, it was specifically a...Halloween Themed Promotion with another NBC series.

Yeah, Chuck is paired up with Grimm this year. Since the new show is about fairy tales come to life, NBC pushed the premiere closer to Halloween.

Good grief -- how in the world did the network let that acronym pass the censors? That was great.

Also, where the fuck was Hamill? He was in the credits.

The bad guy in the beginning.

And what am I going to do with my life once this goes off the air and I miss my weekly Stahovsky? That woman is goddamn ridiculous.

Another...Awesome Episode of Chuck!  Morgan with the intersect...priceless!

I thought it was kinda meh...I think I can see where they are going with Chuck, Morgan and the intersect. And if I'm right...I hate it.

The over arching plot line does look interesting though.

you know if they just keep this to Sarah in her underwear and Morgan doing badass stuff, well this show is the TITS.

I'm really enjoying seeing how far Chuck has coming, in that he's now quite competent without the Intersect. I loved that Morgan does all of these fancy acrobatics in the convenience store, and then Chuck just walks up and socks the guy in the jaw.

I'm now wondering if the glasses-"Intersect" left for Chuck were really a poison pill engineered by Decker to incapacitate him, and Chuck dodged a major fucking bullet when Morgan picked them up.

It makes perfect sense to go with...EEEEEEEvil Morgan!  Chuck vs Morgan could be a...Blast that viewers would want to...Buy More of!  Colonel Casey and the rival spy agency head having the hots for each other is...Awesome!

That's an interesting theory. Of course, the series has mentioned that Chuck's mind is unique and is able to handle the Intersect without going all evil or crazy. (Ex: Shaw from season 3 or the Gretas from season 4) But the Decker leaving tampered glasses meant to screw with Chuck could be a potential plot twist.

Sort of funny how they foreshadowed Morgan going bad by having him call the flashes 'Zooms.'  Zoom being the Reverse Flash and all.  Chuck really should've picked up on that right away, though.

Episode 3 was so much better than the two that came before.

Yeah, it feels like the show is going to go out the proper way. It's ramping up really well.

well this episode went from light hearted to kind of dark. Lester and Casey both going to Jail?

You know what would be great?  If that episode ended Lester's storyline for the series; he just ends up in jail for attempted murder and we're free from the "wacky" Buy More shenanigans.

I would like the Jeff/Lester storyline better if I didn't know they will return to the status quo by the finale.

After a weak start the season is getting better.

Nude Strahovski was quite nice to see (though did BioWare give her slightly...roomier...hips in Mass Effect 2?), but my new epic fantasy is Carrie-Anne Moss wearing a sheriff's deputy uniform, complete with the black leather rapist-gloves.

I think the question is whether or not Community is going to reference Chuck now.

Implied Nudity Strahovski makes this my favorite episode of the season... despite the complete lack of computer knowledge the writers displayed.

And ME2 only motion-captured her face, the rest was the work of a 3D artist.

"What's your job?"

"Staring at pictures of Yvonne Strahovski all day and making a 3D version for a game - have a look."

"Does the game really need it to be anatomically correct?"

"YES!!!"

I'm going to make myself ignore her existence from now on. I feel I'm a hair away of dropping everything and taking up full time stalking duties.

naked mosaics! That was a fun episode..

I was really hoping that in the midst of the Sarah vs. Crazy Cult Girl that they would've been pulled off but then I remember this is NBC and a naked kung-fu fight wasn't going to happen.

This made me sad.

Why am I wringing my mind to remember who naked cult chick was and not checking IMDB? Damn my old school ways. Seriously, where do I remember her from?

She wasn't listed as of Saturday, when the same thing was bugging me.  If I'm not mistaken, she might have been one of Vince's belles du jour on an episode of Entourage.

That was Beau Garrett in the latest episode.

The white Tron chick? I never would have guessed.

I don't know, didn't see the new Tron. I've seen her in numerous TV shows, Turistas, Fantastic Four.

Well, that was a pretty awesome episode. And further proof that Brandon Routh needs his own show.

Well the previews for this week show Sarah and a baby. There is no way this could logically be her baby in the current timeline. So I'm very curious to see what her connection is to this whole baby situation.

Alan Sepinwall has a pretty awesome series of interviews with Chris Fedak and Josh Schwartz over at Hit Fix about all five seasons of Chuck. Worth checking out.

Also, a decent summary of the series can be found here. However, to be completely honest, I'm somewhat biased toward the writer. wink.gif

The Train episode was great. Loved the opening credits. Is this friday the last episode?

Yup, the last two episodes airs this Friday.

Fingers crossed that Strahovski quickly gets a starring role in something worthy. Beautiful women that can act and believably handle action aren't exactly easy to find.

Now THAT is way better product placement than Subway!

Unevenness aside, I'll miss Sarah, err, Chuck.

I really figured that she would have broken out by now; the only non-Chuck thing that I have seen her in is that Jason Statham movie from last year.

TV shows tend to lock actors in, leaving little time for other projects. We'll see how smart Hollywood is once Chuck ends. :)

The Final Episode made me want to...up...CHUCK!  Horrible Episode.  For the last episode? THIS?  UGH!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I thought it was a pretty terrific finale. Much more emotionally affecting than I would have anticipated. I give big credit to the cast for keeping the characters likable during many older episodes that simply were not well written at all. But this episode hit every beat I could've asked for.

One last Jeffster performance that folded into the plot perfectly. Wrapping their story by sending them off to Germany to become the next Hasselhoff-ian musical sensation was genius.

Chuck taking out Casey's chopper with Casey's own gun killed me. Silly, but damned funny.

The Buy More merging with Subway managed to include one more bit of product placement in a way that actually enhanced the show.

The hopeful without being saccharine final scene made me smile, and I generally hate romances.

The best compliment I can give the finale is that for a show I hadn't truly cared about for a while, I was completely onboard throughout.

I love the fact that JEFFSTER is going to be huge in Germany. Hell, them doing the A-HA cover was pure joy.

Glad this show stuck around as long as it did and I'm sad to see it go.

I loved the fact that Subway ended up buying the Buy More.  The show's utterly shameless pandering to Subway, which admittedly was pretty much one of the things that saved the show, was hilarious.

Considering how many times they had a great series finale when they didn't know if there would be another season this one was dissapointing. Did like the last shot and the whole Sara mind wipe/Chuck having to win her back angle. But everything else...not so much.

But then it's just like the entire final season, bits and pieces were pretty good. I still laugh at Chuck and the General at the Christmas party. But overall the whole thing was a few rungs below the highs the show established for itself.

Farsight, I...Hated that Sarah didn't know Chuck!  It was bad enough the previous week where Sarah, lost her memories.  To have the show end with Chuck and Sarah starting...anew, was a...HUUUUUge Negative for me.  I prefer the happy ending.  I was hoping for an ending with Chuck and Sarah in their dream home, maybe with one or 2 children or with Sarah's adopted daughter (the girl she saved on a mission or something like that.  Seeing Jeffster was great.  Colonel Casey going out on missions was excellent, as well.  Yes, Chuck Shooting down Casey's helicopter was the...Best bit.  I give the finale a...D!  The one thing I...Didn't want to see happen...Did.  Most of the ep had Sarah not knowing Chuck!  I say, Chuck should have given Sarah...The Intersect Glasses, which would have...Cured her, and had...Colonel Casey take out the bomb in his own way!

I'm going to go ahead and agree ... (sigh) ... with Fleed. Look, there are a great many shows where an ambiguous, wistful series finale fits the series and works like gangbusters. Chuck is not one of those shows. This is a show that needed an "everyone's sitting around the table and having a ball and living happily ever after ending." Taking away five years of Sarah's life and replacing it with "well, she might be on her way to loving Chuck again" isn't going to fly.

Not to mention that some of this episode's plotting was just silly. How exactly did Quinn convince Sarah that all of these people are evil when she clearly had a life with them, they're clearly being nothing but nice to her, there's evidence everywhere that her and Chuck had a dream marriage? That must of been some speech he gave! And why did she never seem all that concerned that five years worth of her memories were missing?

Jeffster was awesome, though.

To the Sarah of five years ago, the idea of having a family life that wasn't a cover was completely foreign. It made sense that she would be more likely to interpret everything she saw as part of her cover rather than proof that she had become an entirely different person.

As for the ending, it wasn't really that ambiguous. Either they kiss and Sarah regains all her memories and they end up together, or... they kiss and she doesn't regain all of her memories but falls for Chuck all over again and they end up together. There's really no other possibility even hinted at by the show.

A standard happy ending probably would have been sweet, but would have been utterly forgettable. This ending was more powerful (and truly romantic) than I'd have thought the show was capable of.

That's a fair argument, but I also think the Sarah of five years ago is smart enough not to completely trust some handler she has no memory of when all available evidence is pointing in a different direction. If anything, she'd probably spurn both sides and try to get to the bottom of what the hell is going on.

Exactly my thoughts. I was extremely surprised and pleased by this ending. I never saw that coming and both Levy and Stahovsky sold their parts really well.

I'm not getting the negative feedback about the ending. They make a point of showing Sarah remembering stuff from as far back as season 1. Her memories might not be coming back immediately, but they are slowly returning. I don't need the show to spell everything out for me. The kiss on the beach was all I needed to know that things are going to be okay for Chuck and Sarah.

Also, if this is the last time we get to hear Jeffster perform, "Take On Me" was a pretty cool song choice.

In regards to the ending...at least they didn't kill Sara or Chuck. I fully expected one of them to bite it. Like Chuck dying and Sara finding out she's pregnant. Some shit like that.

You gotta love nerds. The show ends with everyone alive, romantically paired up, and with the leads spending an afternoon on the beach, speaking, having fun and making out. But still, it somehow wasn't definitively good enough. This mindset is more maximalist than Germany's foreign policy in the '30s.
