FRANCHISE ME: HELLRAISER: DEADER

This franchise couldn't be DEADER. Boom! Pun!

Wow, no comments on this one?  I've only seen it once, so my upcoming viewing should be interesting.........especially since I need to double feature it and Hellseeker to catch up.  The next one will be a real "treat" though, as I've never seen Hellworld.

How does it feel to know that things will only get worse over the next two entries, Joshua?

I rented Deader when it came out, and thought it was ok. Not really interesting, but the knife in the back bit, and the return of the Chatterer Cenobite were cool. As was the party subway train.

I read that Deader and Hellworld were shot back to back so that's another reason for Rick Bota directing both. About 2 years ago I found Hellseeker, Deader, and Hellworld at a pawnshop I occasionally frequent and didn't hesitate to pick them up as they were pretty cheap and in good condition.

I also rented Hellworld when it came out, and I definitely found that one to be better than Deader. Hah! That rhymes!

I still need to see the latest one. Saw it at Target for $13, but I think I should wait until it gets significantly cheaper as the word of mouth is toxic on it. Plus it's only 75 minutes. Damn that is short!

Just checking, Joshua. But have you read the ongoing Hellraiser comic miniseries? It's written by Clive Barker himself. So if the next two installments depress you, maybe you should check it out.

How about the NAKED GUN series (including the POLICE SQUAD!) after all this is done?

No haven't read any of the comics. Won't be including them in this series, but may search them out once I'm done just for funzies.

I think I'll wait until it inevitably hits Netflix Instant before I suffer through Hellraiser: Revelations.  There is no way I am paying to see that shit, hahaha.

I feel really bad for you, Joshua.

I won't lie... I'm kind of excited. When something promises to be this much of a disaster its novelty starts to resemble that of a really good movie.

Though I'd wager about 15 minutes into the film that novelty will wear off and I'll start punching myself in the dick.

Deader is now the second straight-to-video sequel in the franchise to pull a Die Hard 3 (using a script that wasn’t originally intended to be a Hellraiser movie)

Nada.  Inferno and Hellseeker were always Hellraiser scripts.  Deader and Hellworld are the ones that take another concept (an entire script in Deader's case, a treatment in Hellworld's) and turn it into a Hellraiser sequel.

I was pretty sure that Inferno initially existed as an original treatment that was expanded and turned into a Hellraiser flick.  Maybe I'm just crazy.  I know Hellseeker was always a Hellraiser movie though.

EDIT - I can't find anything to back that up at the moment, beyond a throwaway statement on Wikipedia about both it and Hellseeker starting out as original spec scripts that were rewritten into Hellraiser movies.  It seems that Hellworld DID start as something else called "Dark Can't See" though.

In the interests of not editing my article just cause one person tells me something different than one other person, where does your info come from?

Scott Derrickson.

2. How did you come to do Hellraiser: Inferno?

SCOTT: Dimension came to Paul Boardman and I, along with about a dozen other
writers, looking for an idea. They liked our approach the best, and when
the script came in to their satisfaction, Bob Weinstein (head of
Miramax/Dimension) hired me to direct it.

Wikipedia is (gasp!) wrong.  Inferno and Hellseeker were commissioned as Hellraisers from the outset.  Hellworld is based on Dark Can't Breathe (by Joel Soisson, if I remember right), Deader is based on... er, Deader, by Neil Marshall Stevens.

Awesome sauce. Thanks, Dark Shape.

Good to have a HELLRAISER arbiter monitory events.

Not a problem.  It's good to find a use for all the pointless bullshit in my head!

I also want to throw in praise for the new Hellraiser comic. It features Kirsty and Tiffany.

I'll definitely snag the TB when it gets that far.

The first Hellraiser TB is already out if you're interested.

Just remember, Joshua............................no matter how awful the next two installments are, at least you get to wash the pain away with Carpenter's Halloween afterwards.

Hellworld's going to be interesting.  I still have no idea whether that takes place in the same universe as the other films or if it's pulling a New Nightmare.

Yeah, I bitch about that. It seems to take place in some alternate reality that is similar to our reality. Oddly muddled and confusing for a meta movie.
