(the watch-along starts proper at Post #45)

Break out your DVDs, digital copies, and blu-rays!  Join us in preventing another Klendathu!!

The plan is to do this on Tuesday, October 25th.

The time?

7:00 pm EST

4:00 pm PST

2:00 am EEST

(the early early morning of Wednesday the 26th)

I'm starting this thread at approximately 4:00 pm PST to mark the time for everyone.  If you're interested in doing your part, just glance up at the time I started this thread.  That will be when you should have the movie PLAYING.

  1. Go to this website: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
  2. Scroll to the bottom and there will be a clock running on UTC/GMT/Zulu-time (Greenwich Mean time).
  3. Have your movie paused RIGHT AFTER the distributor/studio logos end.  Depending on where you live, the movie may have differently timed logos before the movie officially starts.
  4. Press PLAY when the world clock hits 23:00:00

If all goes as planned, we should all be hearing the drums of Poledouris's score at the same time!

I suggest that we have the watch-along in this thread.  The chat-room would be nice, but it doesn't always seem to be reliable for everyone.  It would also be difficult to save our messages for posterity.

The STARSHIP TROOPERS
Drinking Game Corner!

Take a drink every time:

  • Rico rises in the chain of command due to his superior biting the dust
  • Jake Busey unleashes his toothy grin
  • Denise Richards seductively parts her lips ever so slightly
  • Clancy Brown goes "MEDIIIIIIC!!!!"
  • Dizzy makes a more appealing romantic lead than the actual one
  • Basil Poledouris punches you in the nuts
  • Verhoven says "burgs" on the commentary track

More suggestions welcome.

PS McNooj: excellent thread design,  with the logos ETC

I'm gonna interrupt my Jurassic Park bluray watching for this!

Remember, everyone... get the movie queued up at least 5 minutes before we hit 23:00:00 !

This applies double for me.  I always drop the ball when it comes to punctuality...

Have fun! That's an order!

Damn, will just be getting off work when this little shindig is started, might try and jump in slightly off-time when I'm home maybe..

Miss these watch-alongs. BTiLC was the bomb (in Phantoms, yo)

TREJOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!  Sorry for the inconvenient time!  Hopefully the World Clock site will make it easy for you to sync up with us!

EDIT: Adding some drinking game cues on the original post for anyone planning to do that.

'Flash Gordon' was a scream.  It'll be hard to top that.

Flash Gordon was a GREAT one to watch-along to.

I saw it.

I was there.

I always thought a Rocky IV watch along would be classic.   The awesomeness of the movie might overwhelm any cognitive thought though.

Rocky IV watch-along must break you.

I'd be up for a Rocky IV watchalong. A Commando watchalong would be friggin fantastic as well!

'Commando' would be epic.

Let's not step on this outing by continuing to bring up other films, though.  Nooj, I'll be here for 'Starship Troopers' if I can.

Have you guys had a Batman & Robin watchalong yet? That would likely be quite entertaining.

I love that idea.  I LOVE that idea.

Though I think most people here are too pained to actually watch that movie.

I just crack up the whole time.

I am SERIOUSLY heartbroken that I won't make the Starship Troopers watchalong.

But as someone who had Joel Schumacher apologize to their FACE about Batman and Robin, I would be first in line for that.

Why?  Why did it have to be a Tuesday?  When I have to work late?  WHY NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJ????????

It was the last date that was suggested in a previous thread and I just ran with it when nobody suggested otherwise!

I'M SORRY, SCHWAAAAAARTZ!!!!

Keeping this bumped to maintain visibility!

It's happening tonight!

Dammit. I have other real life things that'll keep me from this.

Maybe next time.

Space Teen Fascist Force is a go!

I repeat, Space Teen Fascist Force is a go!

I will do my part. Though I don't think I have enough booze for a full drinking game if all the conditions are applied.

I just thought I'd mention, that in an interesting inversion of the HAROLD AND KUMAR 2 set up, one time before a performance of ROMEO AND JULIET starring Emmy Rossum,  I happened to bump into Neil Patrick Harris. At the time I was, as they say, high as a kite, and so it was a slightly surreal and awkward interaction. I congratulated him on STARSHIP TROOPERS, and said it was my favorite role of his. He seemed genuinely pleased I'd singled it out for special praise

Oh, even better: my sister went to college with Ed Neumeyer's daughter. One day my sister called me up and was like "You'll never guess who is here! The writer of ROBOCOP!*" without dropping a beat, I immediately exclaimed "Ed Neumeyer?!"

My sister got me an AUTOGRAPH, and I need to track it down and post a photo because it was awesome: it called me a citizen and said something about the federation, and keeping in the fight. My mom put it some place for me for "safe keeping", but like so many things my mom stores away, she can't lay her hands on it right now (I want to get it framed)

*my sister's never even seen ROBOCOP..

The wife unit has committed me to a post-work activity with some of our friends. I will not be able to squash bugs with you this evening. Sorry!

OK, let's take a roll call 'cause I'm getting a bunch of no-shows in this thread and I'd be willing to take a rain check if it meant for a bigger crowd.

I support watching tonight. It would suck to cancel on the people who had planned their entire evening around it o_o

I say we should still go for it tonight.  I fear rescheduling will only end up pushing it back indefinitely.

And I'm more than happy to do do it again anyway.

OK then. See ya in six.

Hoping Netflix on my PS will be in-sync enough. Wait, it's on Netflix streaming right?

I hope you can track down a copy in time for tonight!

eI could have sworn that I saw it as available on Netflix streaming. I can't access it now, so you may want to double check on your own.

Thread Starter

I'm sure it was once available on Instant.  But like the Fellowship of the Ring (one my friend complained about it not being there anymore), it's not.

Have fun troops, it's a midday workday start for me and I can't swing it. But if the next one is another Saturday morning like the Transformers Watchalong I'll be down like Donkey Clown.

World clock site question: how do you get it to sync up? It doesn't seem to display a live countdown. Do you keep rapidly refreshing the page till it ticks over?

Thread Starter

It should just be running near the bottom of the page.  No need to refresh the page.

Got it! Thanks, McN82

I'm still in. The boards are running a little slow for me today, so I'm gonna try and keep up!

OK I must now come clean and admit that I've not been terribly careful wth my DVDs the past few years, and so today was unable to locate my SST DVD despite an extensive search. I just moved, and alot of my boxes are now packed into crawl spaces

I got a copy out from the library of the infamous DOUBLE SIDED edition, and it looks to be pretty badly scratched. My TOSHIBA A3 HD DVD PLAYER is going strong ( HD DVD, down but not out!) and generally handles scratches well, but these are pretty extensive. I am going to give it a go, and if I get hung up, I will either give up and watch CAPTAIN AMERICA or try to sync back up if I can

Just wanted to let you guys know!
