Yeah it sure as Hell sounds like Liotta to me. That is an exciting possibility.

IGN posted that the game is set in San Andreas again, so that means all 3 locations AND countryside action.

Man, I really hope that I get to go on a 5-star rampage up against the U.S. Army while wearing that Cosby sweater.

All of San Andreas again? Woof

Insomuch as Los Santos is in San Andreas, yes.  Not sure why that would mean Las Venturas and San Fierro are making a return as well.  It just seems like wishful thinking for the most part, including that ign article.  The trailer certainly doesn't suggest other cities outside Los Santos.

Neither did the initial trailers for San Andreas, IIRC. CJ getting dropped off in the middle of Bumblefuck California was kept pretty tightly under wraps until we were in spitting distance of launch.

Yeah, reading the articles made it seem like it's gonna be all of San Andreas not just Los Santos.  I mean, we will have to wait and see, but I can't see how Rockstar would just limit the game to Los Santos.

We'll know soon enough.

...Looks like more climbing up Mount Chiliad on a Sanchez in this kid's future.

If you can run people over with a combine and watch their bloody remains get sprayed out the side in once again (in glorious HD), I know what I'm gonna be doing a year from now.

Goddamn you, Rockstar. I was totally prepared to hate this trailer.

Here's hoping they get great radio station soundtracks - something that was missing from GTAIV.

Brilliant songs on the car stereo really helped to elevate San Andreas and Vice City to the point where you were really happy to bumble around and discover things on your own, whereas driving in GTAIV is a fucking chore because there's fuck all to listen to.

GTA IV actually had a pretty great collection of songs, all things considered. Driving around at night in a business suit preparing to kill some people while Gong's "Heavy Tune" played kind of made me feel like a badass.

Though if they WANT to bring back Radio Los Santos, I won't stop them.

Yeah that looks and sounds like Tommy Vercetti to me.  Rockstar - you sold me.

If that's Liotta, I would be very surprised. To me it doesn't sound like him at all.

Although bringing Tommy Vercetti back, older and in a new city, is a cool idea.

Maybe I'm missing something?

Because based on this trailer, I have no idea which of the characters you see is the protagonist. And I honestly don't think it sounds like Ray Liotta. There's a raspier quality to this person's voice.

There is a brief shot of a guy in a business suit that, I suppose could be a middle-aged Vercetti. But, if that were the case, I'm guessing it's an NPC that gives you missions and not the character that you play as.

Nice looking trailer and, sure, I'm excited. But I think some of you guys are putting things into it that aren't actually there.

If they manage to make a Next Gen GTA game with the kind of scope and depth that San Andreas had, then that will be amazing.

.......

As a side note, I also disagree that GTAIV had a bad soundtrack. It may not have had the "kitsch" value of Vice City, but it had atmosphere to spare. Some great tracks on the JOURNEY station... Also, "Goodbye Horses" ... "Atrevetetete" ... there was good stuff. I even liked some of the weird stuff on the Russian station.

Not a chance is that Liotta.

Best thing about setting this in LA, from a developer standpoint, you can use the smog as justification for limited draw distance.

Tommy Vercetti and CJ.

Each to their own I guess - I thought it was instantly forgetable and dreary. I imediatly switch to station Frontier as soon as I get in a car and listen to Jean Michelle Jarre.

You know what? I'm sorry, but I'm just completely underwhelmed. I'm sick and tired of LA, and I'm pretty darn tired of city settings, at least without something unique to offer (interesting, little used location, unique time period, ETC). GTA 4 did the NEXT GEN HYPER DETAILED CITY thing, and until the new consoles come out, I don't really think there is anything new to offer in such a locale other than palm trees and a different horizon

Very disappointed. Oh well

Some people write about how all games look the same these days, how they're all just nearly identical military shooters ETC, but when a big franchise like GTA continues to spin it's wheels with the same ideas and the same settings, it gets harder for me to argue against that hypothesis

I dunno Kate. The graphics look as terrific and cinematic as ever...

Added to that what looks to be some bigger scope (it's seeming very likely that this will be San Andreas as a whole, not just Los Santos) and you just might get a modern, urban version of Red Dead Redemption.

I know, but at this point most games look pretty snazzy, and so while I'll probably pick this up at some point, I'm just going to state right now I'm 0% hyped for it

If it's all of San Andreas.. well that's neat, but truth be told I already played that game for hundreds of hours on end, and had the time of my life with it. A graphical upgrade doesn't seem like a convincing reason to dive back in. I'd much rather just get RDR2

Last but not least,  I'm kind of tired of the GTA series constant toilet humor ETC. I know some love it, god bless them, but my tastes are just evolving

I realize there's probably no chance for it, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up for a return of Mike Toreno.

Looks like it ain't Liotta.

Which is too bad, but whatever.

And that homeless person isn't Niko, either.

San Andreas is the only GTA game I've not played - for some reason it skipped me by - I'm pretty sure I was console-less at the time from memory - so a return to that particular world will actually be an introduction for me.

After watching that trailer I have to say, god-damn have Rockstar worked out how to make their games look purdy and colourful. Those graphics are insane.

Could not agree with you more there, Stale Elvis!. That was quite a big let down for me in GTA4. The music was not what it was in SA or VC, even the talk stations in GTA4 were not as good as they've in previous incarnations.

I am also sick of LA, NYC, etc. I spent a majority of my time in San Andreas out in the sticks, the desert, or in one of the smaller outlining towns. That being said, Rockstar has more than earned my trust and I know this game will be great. If it's just a larger GTA IV that uses some of the fantastic innovations of RDR...I will be more than satisfied. Here's hoping it is all of San Andreas...MT. Chiliad, Back o' Beyond, Las Venturas, Area 51, and the desert. Also can't wait to kick the shit out of peoples dogs.

Oh, and give me my jetpack back.

So is this going to be with a new engine? Or will it be to GTA IV what San Andreas and Vice City were to GTA III? I think Rockstar considered those 3.1 and 3.2. I guess it's just semantics, but my thoughts are that new console equals new numbering in front, sort of a jump in technology.

Apparently, those of us who really like GTA IV and it's Episodes is a shrinking list.

I'm totally looking forward to more with better graphics in a different city.  I'm not jizzing everywhere, but I'm usually pretty reserved until, say a month or two out.

The only huge thing I hope for is a more serious and thoughtful main story, closer to Red Dead's.  Minus, of course, all the bullshit extra Mexico missions.

Yeah, that didn't even sound like Liotta.  Anybody know how much I can get on the black market for HunterTarantino's kidneys?

As always it's the little details with these games.  I watched it a few times in a row, and the way one of those clouds swirls and dissipates during the hiking shot?  There's no reason they need to do that, but it's beautiful.  It really takes it up a notch in realism.  I don't know how you can watch their trailers and not be amazed at what they're able to do.

I'd wager you could get a clean couple thousand for them kidneys, depending on their current state; you'd probably want to offer them in a combo pack, to make the offer more enticing...depends on the buyer's intentions; do try to deliver them in a brand new cooler case and with fresh ice; its all in the presentation here.

As for the details, I loved the things you mentioned (anyone noticed the dust being kicked by a truck on the distance in one of the airborne shots?), but the fact that the trailer neglects to mention any consoles is a bit suspicious; Rockstar aint known for showing altered/enhanced footage, but there's no way a GTA game with that level of quality will fit in one DVD; hell, maybe it will use more than one blu-ray?

Every time I watch a new GTA trailer I have hold it up against the one for Vice City, which is really the gold standard.

As long as I can still pay toll booths in grenades, I'll be a happy camper.

I want the drunk driving to return.  That mission in Vice City where you get bombed off of moonshine and then try to escape really sticks with me.  Not sure they can get away with that at this point, but they usually get away withe verything so why the fuck not?

They had drunk driving in GTAIV. You usually just got pulled over after a block or two IF you somehow managed to drive that far without t-boning another car.

The idea of multiple characters sounds interesting on paper. But one of the strengths of the series has been getting attached to that one main character throughout the whole thing. That aspect is kind of the hallmark of the open world genre in general. You could even apply it to Red Dead Redemption, and it's the reason why - as much as I loved it - I don't really play it anymore now that I've beaten it. Basically, I have no attachment or interest for Marston's son.

I stopped playing Marston's son also, but first I played the role of "revenge fueled asshole" and killed everything in sight.  Lost at poker?  Die, bitches.  Stabbed a finger during 5 finger filet?  Rifle time.

GTA V set in "Los Santos, the surrounding countryside, and the beaches."

This casts doubt on the already spurious rumors floating around that LV and SF would be a part of the game, and that the protag is a guy named Adrian. (If LV were a part of the game, we'd probably have seen part of it in the trailer)

Rockstar North is calling it their "biggest game yet," but whether that refers to content or landmass is unknown. Best guess: This will be a biggified version of the Los Santos island from GTA:SA.

Although I'm a little disappointed LV and SF are not included, I guess it was too much to hope for that a game as big as San Andreas was possible with that level of graphic detail.

Having three cities was fun, but it makes sense to only have the one. The more cities you have the more unfocused and unwieldy the story gets. They have to come up with reasons why you keep moving away, and characters will end up getting sidelined for large chunks of the game while you noodle around somewhere that has nothing to do with them.

They got away with it in San Andreas, but to me the other cities never felt as memorable and well developed as Los Santos, they mainly seemed to be there for variety. So long as there's plenty of countryside it's all good.

The multiple cities of SA provided a massive scope we haven't seen since, with the rare exception being RDR. RDR's landmass may have been bigger, but SA's three distinct chapters made the gameworld seem even more massive and varied. I'm probably being pessimistic, but thanks to DLC and abbreviated development cycles, I don't think we'll ever see anything like it again.

There are four airports in that game. FOUR!

Well that decides it for me.. just an epic disappointment. The same cities over and over..

The GTA games are outsiders looking at the US through a very, very, prominent pop culture lens. And as far as contemporary pop culture is concerned the US are comprised of New York, Miami and Los Angeles. And a bit of Las Vegas.

As long as the games are contemporary and set in the US these are the places they will stay.

GTA VII: Up Bill Maher's Butt

sounds a little too liberal for my liking

Meh.  I'm not interested until they can prove they brought back the fun from Vice City and San Andreas.  That's why I'm way more hyped for Saint's Row 3 in a couple of weeks.

Note: I still haven't played Gay Tony, so the above may not be applicable any more.

I'm envisioning a really cool heist mission in the folds of his Sigmoid Colon

In all seriousness, I'd love to see Bill voice a character in this, perhaps in a self depricating role that pokes fun at his lifestyle

Only if it parodies D.C. Cab.

haha, DC CAB. Or his Pizza Boy private eye character. I have long been of the opinion Bill should return to acting at some point
