Grand Theft Auto V. - Page 5

D.C. Cab is able to tie it into my current Barbarian brothers obsession, so this is a must.

Make it so Rockstar! Now!

"GTA V looks slightly better than San Andreas". Surprising.

(pretty impressive vid none the less, must have been working on it since the V trailer was released)

What are our thoughts on the graphics? Are they just a slight improvement over GTA IV with this being on the same console and all?

Pretty much, yeah. Or they're going to have to drop the game world size quite a bit.

I'm not convinced that everything in that trailer is being rendered in real time by the game's engine. Some of it could be, but then stuff like the level of detail on the windmills (all the little bolts ETC)? I don't buy it

I was skeptical about the flag at the beginning of the trailer, then I remembered staring at the flags in RDR for hours. Just mesmerising.

I was very impressed with the flags in RDR, pretty much the best flags I've yet seen in a game

The graphics in that trailer are absolutely mind-blowing, and I have no doubt they will be scaled down significantly for the consoles. Doesn't matter. I never got much into GTA4, but I have been consumed by the Red Dead Redemption GOTY edition I picked up not too long ago. Playing poker with other real life squarejaws in an epic downpour, talking shit and having a good time, is really a special video game moment. I love the relaxed pace you can take the game at, and much appreciate the added difficulty in Hardcore mode. You have to be way more tactical when approaching mobs now.

So my thinking is Rockstar manages to take what they learned from RDR, mix it up with what is obviously the single most fertile GTA setting possible (yeah, LA has gotten played out in video games lately, but consider the social commentary Rockstar prides itself in in these games, and look at what has happened to the greatest state in the Union since the economic collapse - a theme played up in the trailer - and it's going to be nothing less than monumental), and spit out the single best game of the console generation.

A couple of things I really want to see:

the ability to rollerblade

bring back working out. Getting swoll in the gym in San Andreas was fantastic fun (as was getting Heavy D obese and riding a bicycle). Also, martial arts.
An epic Hollywood sub-plot

Scientologists
Drug Cartels
Co-op bank robberies

And I am willing to lay money on there being multiple playable characters, and those characters being Tommy Vercetti and CJ. Bet.

Much like the announcement of Half Life 3, playable CJs or Tommies would be too good to be true, and will be avoided for no other good reason than to thumb a nose at nerds.

They've never repeated playable characters in subsequent entries.  They even make new ones for the DLC.  Seems a strange thing to bet on.

Rockstar will in all likelyhood write a new character for GTA5; but don't be surprised to have a myriad of references to other characters from the series.

Rumors are now floating around this is hitting in October, though knowing Rockstar, it'll get pushed to Spring '13. Which, im hoping for, because there's already a $120 hole in my wallet that's burning for Bioshock Infinite and Assassins' Creed 3.

God same.

The only time I recall seeing a crossover character from one GTA game into another (not counting GTA4 DLC) was the GTA III character as a driver in San Andreas. Are there other cameos?

Pretty sure there was a whole bunch across III, Vice City, and San Andreas. William Fichtner's cokehead lawyer comes to mind, and the psycho girlfriend in San Andreas dumps you for the GT III player character (before becoming the Big Bad in III). Pretty sure there's mob ties with Tommy and the mob from III, too. There's probably others.

But, I don't think Rockstar has ever crossed characters over across roman numeral entries. Each "iteration" seems to be its own world, so far.

Lazlow is the only exception. He's in all of them, minus Chinatown Wars, from III onward.

Don't forget everyone's favorite sweaty, medallion-hawking pedophile pimp, Fernando.

I would love for them to do a DLC kit with Catalina as the star.   These games always beg you to be some psychopathic destructive force of nature anyway.   It's a match made in heaven.

Lazlo was on the SportsHub (radio station) last month in Boston, since there was a nerd convention there.  He's a pretty hilarious dude.
