Another great write-up.  Still entertaining despite the fact that I never saw the third entry.  Perhaps it's time to check it out?  I'LL GIVE IT A WHIRL!!!

Also, when you brought up the idea of having the kid's siblings join in on the traps, I suddenly thought, "Josh should also write about Home Alone Ninja: THREE NINJAS!!!"

I'm still holding out hope for a real Home Alone 3 with everyone back from the original. This could be Macaulay Culkin's comeback. Stay with me here.

Kevin, now 30, is on his way home (in first class, of course) from New York to Chicago to visit his family for Christmas. The plane is hijacked by terrorists while Kevin is in the washroom. Kevin says "This is my country, I have to defend it" as he sets up traps throughout the plane against the terrorists. It just so happens that Harry and Marv are also on the plane (in coach) and in a huge twist help Kevin fight against th terrorists and for America.

Home Alone crossed with Die Hard crossed with Air Force One.

You know what? Forget it.

I recall seeing this in theaters and hating it.  Haven't seen it since and I doubt time has been all that kind.

If anything you might hate it more.

I suspect you're right.  I've never seen Home Alone 4 and actually didn't even know it existed until fairly recently.  I can't imagine it is any better.

Well, you're half right. It barely exists... http://www.chud.com/77312/franchise-me-home-alone-4/

ScarJo was in HOME ALONE 3? Never knew that. Thanks Joshua!

By the way, have an idea for a new columm the rest of the writing staff might like to look into.

Obscure TV Series that people have forgotten- For Example- VR5, The Crow: Stairway To Heaven, Dark Skies and Totall Recall 2070.

NO. That line of OCD thinking pays off for you more than readers, I think. Do the TV series pilot if you must.

I'm watching HOME ALONE 4 right now and think it returns to some of the tone of the first film.  It's not genius by any means, but it's a more pleasant sort of crap than HOME ALONE 3.  Still crap, though...

I have to admit I want to read some Crow write ups. Especially the Eddie Furlong one. It's kind of special.

There was a reference to Home Alone fanfic up there, and that got me googling. I present:

Orphan » by Sash-1984 reviews

When Kevin McCallister's entire family is killed in a plane crash, leaving him as the only survivor, Kevin is placed in an 'under the surface' horrible orphanage...he needs someone to save him from the orphanage & from his emotional pain, but who?

TIME » by Aline Riva reviews

Kate McCallister and Harry Lyme fall in love but someone is determined to hurt Harry by targeting his best friend. Then Marv is abducted and trapped underground with a bomb strapped to his waist that he could easily diffuse -if only he knew how to spell..

We all know that Kevin McCallister got lost in New York and stayed in the Plaza hotel before being caught but did you know that I, Kevin's sister Kelly was there too? You didn't see me in the hotel, but I was there. And I had one job to do. Protect Kevin

So, there's some Harry and Marv hookin' up stuff, but none as amazing as these. Apparently, Harry and Kate McCallister had some serious shippers. Or maybe just Aline Riva under several names. Either way, whoaaa. This stuff is mind-destroying.

'The Trouble with Kevin' would totally be worth it if his sister witnessed the attack on Harry and Marv and realized her little brother is a burgeoning psychopath.

I think I'm gonna go with PSYCHO. I find the breadth of the franchise appealing. LETHAL WEAPON was a close second. There is a lot to say about the progression of that franchise too.

And Psycho is set during Christmas!

Hi, I read this discussion and thought I'd add something - Glad you like the Home Alone fics-but just to clarify - there is oney one Aline Riva- (that's me) I only write under my own pen name. I don't write as any body else.

There are servaral other writers in the HA section on FFN and I do know some of them quite well - but they write their own stories.

Everything by Aline Riva is by ME.I do not have any other pen names.

Thanks for liking my fics. I'll be writing more in 2012.

Someone needs to post the Scanners GIF cause my mind just got blown.

I. But. I just don't even. WHAT.

If anyone wants to chat with me about my fics I'm happy to chat - I always have time for people who like my fiction.

I don't know what scares me more. The fact that there is Home Alone Fanfic or that there is an actual Community for Home Alone Fanfic.

There's quite a big fan base out there judging by the amount of hits some of my stories got.  I'm also a member of another HA community that's fanfiction based and I put a lot of future based fiction there too.  I love to play around with the characters because there are so many possibilities for storylines. The Kate and Harry shipping was started by me - I could just see the two of them getting together under the right set of circumstaces.

Ive also had Harry  and Marv in many kinds of possible realtinships, from friends to partners - I recently wrote a story that brought together characters from HA 1 &4 and in that story I've actually written Harry and Marv as father and son, whch is an angle I don't think had been explored before. I think it worked pretty well, that story is called Marv's Girl.

I feel like I've been playing with a ouija board, summoning something from the far reaches of the internet. Sorry I called it mind destroying.

I have to admit, I'm not really into reading fanfiction, although I am intrigued by the existence of it. And since you've stopped by, there is one question I've been dying to know the answer to. Why write fanfiction? I don't mean this as a bait, honestly. It seems to me that writing stories of that length would require a hell of a lot of dedication, so why not direct that effort towards creating your own worlds? Is it a readership issue, based on page hits? Just looking at that website aggregate, there's clearly several thousand man hours of writing on display, probably more text than the complete works of Stephen King. It just seems that if someone is going to devote the time, why not shoot for larger game? That is, after all, where people like JK Rowling come from.

On the other hand, I did find your stuff because I was curious about how many sordid sexual couplings Harry and Marv had been imagined into, but surely you can't count on that for an audience. But then, perhaps this isn't the thread for this.

I am excited about Psycho, in that all I know of the sequels is that they exist. Should be interesting, at least. There's no way any of them are good, is there?

You just may be surprised.

A ouja board? ha ha no,

'cool.gif  I'm very real a person not an entity lol.

First of all- Why wrte fanfiction?  Because its fun its done for love of fandom and love of writing.

I had the chance a couple of years back to become a big pubished author in my own right.   I turned it down because there are so many status and wealth obsessed leeches out there and I encountered enough of them to decide my ability to write belong to me, so it's  up to me what I choose to do with it.

I found out a long time ago that when people found I could write they started wanting a piece of me because of my potential and I would rather go away and be happy and be a fan fiction writer. Writing always comes out better when its done purely for the love of it.

I wanted to write and be happy - not for profit, for enjoyment.

It doesn't take a huge amout of dedication because I'm always fired up with ideas and I generally tend to write a novel a month. I usually write between 3-6 thousand words per day and I'm a fast typist too so it doest take me very long.

I don't only write Home Alone - I've written Jaws, Lethal Weapon, Casino and I'm currently writing a novel which follows on from  the end of the movie Inspector Gadget 2.

And a lot of my stories have sexual scenarios in them-  but no more than they have other subjects like life, death and all the other things that make the characters live and breathe and put more flesh on their bones.  Sex doesn't draw readers but good storylines do. And some of them have sex in them and some do not lol.

I sometimes do a search online to see if my writing is being enjoyed or discussed and if it is I like to stop by and chat with readers. I dont write for reviews but I do like to know my writing has been enjoyed because I write for pleasure and to share it with readers. So don't worry, there; no need tocallfor the Exorcist.... you didn't summon me- google did lol!  biggrin.gif

II and III are fun B movies, like classier versions of slasher films.

Psycho II is an EXCELLENT sequel.

So Josh, in addition to the 3 sequels and the remake, will you also be covering this....

Seriously.  Psycho II suffers because it's, well, Psycho II, but on its own it's a really nifty little thriller with a great ending.

I actually quite like Psycho II. It's different from the first film, but it succeeds because it doesn't even attempt to be the same kind of movie. It's a nifty little thriller with some good character beats for Norman and I think Tom Holland did a good job transforming him into a protagonist. I never bothered with any of the other sequels so I don't know about them, but I look forward to reading Josh's write ups!

Glad to hear it!

While I haven't caught the doc yet, it is my understanding that The Psycho Legacy completely overlooked that TV film (and intended series pilot)..........which is a shame.

UPDATE: things are still happening with PSYCHO. Been a slight delay, as I've been waiting for the used DVD triple-feature set of PSYCHO II, III, and IV that I ordered to arrive. They're supposedly on their way, and I've already gotten myself a copy of BATES MOTEL. So I'm planning to get the ball rolling this week.

That II-IV set is like $6 at Big Lots. All anamorphic; lovely. Glad you found Bates Motel!

Anyone can say what they will about the sequels, but Anthony Perkins gave it his all every time out.

A bit off-topic, but I just realized that Andrew Garfield reminds me a lot of Anthony Perkins.  Does anyone else see it or am I just crazy?

I can see it.  Anthony Perkins with the voice of Hayden Christensen (d'oh).

That's a bit harsh!  I only wish we had been lucky enough to have had Garfield instead of Christensen in the SW prequels.

Dammit Joon, we've brought up Star Wars AGAIN!

No!  NO!  YOU DID!

I was referring to JUMPER!
