I think it would be a stellar idea to do a Before Sunrise/Sunset "Franchise Me". You said you needed something short for the next one.

THE MATRIX or Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtles in the future?

Street Fighter movies, including, perhaps, the one anime.  You know, the one with Chun-Li's boobs.

Or when you've run out of mega series to do, just do video game movies.  You can end it with Crank, the unofficial GTA movie.

You've done a lot of horror.  Not that this is bad, mind, but maybe the cleansing power of action movie violence would be awesome.  Universal Soldier!  Or, fuck it.  Undisputed.  Those are actually pretty good and there's only 3.

I think I'd rather see Sonny Chiba's The Streetfighter series.

I think you need to palate cleansing. So, I present...

Gidget. (1959)

You get three movies and a tv series starring Sally Fields. What more do you want?

Yeah, I'd love to see that, too.

Dr. Goldfoot. Two movies that readers might not be super-aware of.

In a similar vein, the Quatermass films could use a little love.

The Crow!

I would vote for The Howling or if you're feeling truly masochistic the Witchcraft series.

With the third entry slowly gearing up, he might as well wait.

There's what, six or seven of those counting the spin-off series?  Assuming he can locate all of them, go for it!

Quatermass films would be brilliant for this series!

Are we talking about the Quatermass films, or including the TV stuff too?

Well, the films are basically just feature versions of the serials that were broadcast in the 50s, so there'd be a fair amount of redundancy there.

or Dean Martin's 'Matt Helms" drunken spy movies.

Yeah...just do the BBC's 'The Quatermass Experiment / Quatermass 2 / Quatermass & the Pit'...and I think we'll be fine.

See, I'd think more people would be familiar with the films, and that they might be easier to get a hold of.

 The Hammer's?...also valid.

Throw in John Carpenter's 'Prince of Darkness', as well (not snark).

I'm happy with Lethal Weapon being next.  Can we get some American Ninja love followed by some Fast and the Furious love after that?

The answer is: yes, eventually. Like all beautiful people, I am a fickle creature. I gave up promising any succession of franchises a while ago. That said, I'm unlikely to do another straight action franchise right after LETHAL WEAPON.

You're really going to make us wait for the maze of brilliant kungfu continuity that is Kickboxer, aren't you?  You tease.

I'd read anything you care to write about at this point, and I really like that you decide what's next by whim.

100% agreed.  Juggling genre is a great idea as well, but for your sake and ours.  Mostly yours though.  I don't think anyone can take multiple long-running horror franchises in a row without losing what little sanity they have left.  I also love the idea of using three-film franchises as palette cleansers from time to time.

Anyone want to support my theory that Riggs actually dies at the end of "Lethal Weapon 2" and the third and forth films are just him in hell?

I'm excited to talk about the South Africans.

"But, but.......................you're BLACK!"

I want to see that "Patsy Kensit lives" Alternate ending!

I wrote a paper on Lethal Weapon 2 last year. I felt so smart.

I'm totally psyched for this one. You'll have fun with 'em. Make sure you have some chili and Oreos when you watch the second one.

Oh, and these commercials:

If I know one thing, I know great ideas that get NO hits. To that end, I challenge you to challenge us to put on our big boy pants after Lethal Weapon:

What was the thesis of the paper?

Well hello Mr. Fancy Pants. And here I was thinking my pants were ever so fancy for planning to do the Larry Talbot films.

It's on its significance to the buddy cop subgenre and to the 80's action boom, as well as the way it handles apartheid and racial dynamics.

I smell "follow-up" piece!

Malcolm McDowell as the criminal in a 5th Home Alone (and 2nd DTV) film? Poor bastard. His career has been painful to watch, for so, so long.

You know, I like the idea of "Home Alone" with a haunted house, I think you could have fun with that, but only if it wasn't an actual Home Alone movie and had an act change that went full blown Poltergeist.

Wow, I wish I wasn't probably going to see that Home Alone movie at some point. But McDowell and Mazar as villains is exactly the of kind of sad casting that will break me down.

Leprechaun, on the other hand, is more of a Warwick-or-get-the-fuck-out proposition.

Josh is betting on a studio exec thinking they can land Dinkladge.  I say it will probably end up being Troyer or an unknown.

Personally though, I'm rooting for Deep Roy............................'cause why the fuck not?

Do any of them draw more water than Warwick Davis though? I mean, I guess Dinklage does, but Dinklage isn't about to decimate his career momentum with the dwarf equivalent of a blackface role.

I wonder if they will actually approach Davis to do it?

Having read his autobiography, I'd say the whole franchise is very emotional for him. He lost some children during birth when he was making these and they gave him enough of an income to not have to worry about a lot of things. He seems to have a genuine affection for the movies, and is under no illusions they're not terrible. I think he'd be pretty heartbroken if they didn't at least ask, and I imagine he'd probably do it.

Besides, dude has some serious tax problems.

It won't be much of a "remake" if Davis is playing the part, considering that there is really no continuity between any of the films. Each one is almost stand alone. There is also the question of his age, as far as hoping to launch a brand new series of films. I haven't watched any of his Gervais show. Can he still prance around like he once could?

That said, of the existing little people out there he is still the no brainer best choice, as far as acting ability and accent -- based on his Brit accent on GOT, I have to imagine Dinklage's Irish brogue would be kinda terrible. Plus, he'd never accept the part while he's still got something as classy as GOT going on. Davis would at least have a non-make-up cameo in the film.

Whoa whoa whoa, Dinklage's accent on GOT hears fine to me. Explain thyself, good sir.

Well first I will note that I think the Dink is AMAZING. Part he was born to play. But is accent is wonky. It doesn't matter because his performance is so good, and in the same way Christian Bale worked his wonky American accent into AMERICAN PSYCHO, Dinklage uses his wonky accent as part of his delivery. But it isn't a great Brit accent.

Eh, different strokes.

He's 40, not 70.

Also, it seems the remake is being produced by WWE films. The fucking Wrestling people. So, one would assume it might not even star a little person, and, even if it does, I imagine the part is really limited for whoever z-list wrestler is tasked with battling him.

I keep forgetting he was 11 years old when he was in Return of the Jedi.

Very true, but little people tend to have lots of problems with their joints and such at a young age. He could very well be moving around like he's 70 nowadays.

All the Time Bandits were pretty old weren't they? Anyway, no worries about Warwick, he does a load of slapstick stunts in Life's Too Short.
