Apple is the Evil Empire

Rather than keep bashing away in the "Emperor Palpatine Steve Jobs is Dead" thread thought I'd create one.  Realistically it could be called "Any monolithic global corporation is the Evil Empire", but since Apple seems to get a lot of, to me, undeserved toadying I thought I'd pick on them.  The backlash started somewhere else but it continues here!

First up - good news. Independent Tablet makers overturns Apple's "we created ALL tablet designs" (i.e. 'you know, a rectangle with a glass front') design lawsuit.

I've actually written up a host of stuff I'm holding off on posting in the STEVE JOBS HAS PASSED AWAY thread, since you guys seem sick of hearing about him from me... but with that said, if APPLE was an evil empire, you better believe I'd sign up for the storm troopers. My loyalty to APPLE at this point is unbreakable, and I hope they show no mercy, crushing their competitors with a never ending string of patent law suits, leaving them penniless and broken and unable to launch so much as a pocket calculator without having an injunction levied against them

If Jobs had gotten to make the UNIX BIG MAC back in the mid 80s, I can only imagine where computing would now be. Humanity lost so much time, our collective future was postponed, simply because Jobs and APPLE fell victim to a mob of parasites without a hint of vision or decency. If an iron fist is what it takes to ensure no one can ever again threaten APPLE's great destiny, so be it

Peace

If Apple made the suits shiny silver and nice (white and black is SO bland) I don't think you'd be the only one ;p

If I'd had somewhere to go on Halloween, I'd have gone as an APPLE STORE EMPLOYEE biggrin.gif

Adobe gives up on mobile flash... APPLE - WIN!

Looks like they finally took Jobs' advice from his THOUGHTS ON FLASH letter, and now have decided to admit defeat and conform to the HTML 5 standard going forward

"We told them that if they ever got Flash working right to give us a call..."

Quote:
On Wednesday morning, Adobe confirmed rumorsthat it will end development of its Flash Player plug-in for mobile browsers

Quote:
HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively," wrote Winokur. "This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms

I love it.. "in some cases exclusively". So, they're basically admitting APPLE changed the entire mobile market, and now they need to give up on mobile flash

Good write up on Jobs in the New Yorker by Malcolm Gladwell:

Quote:
After close to six hundred pages, the reader will recognize this as vintage Jobs: equal parts insightful, vicious, and delusional. It’s true that Gates is now more interested in trying to eradicate malaria than in overseeing the next iteration of Word. But this is not evidence of a lack of imagination. Philanthropy on the scale that Gates practices it represents imagination at its grandest. In contrast, Jobs’s vision, brilliant and perfect as it was, was narrow. He was a tweaker to the last, endlessly refining the same territory he had claimed as a young man.

Nope, not even close. I support APPLE, it's not a broader philosophy than that

That's a great article, and it really struck a chord with me as I'm doing quite a lot of project work for a 'tweaker' right now. The difference is that this guy isn't an aggressive, bullying arsehole about everything so I don't find it particularly annoying.

Gates comes across well in that article, this quote was great:

“I think there’s more than one way of looking at it. I think it’s more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it.”

I don't hate Apple I just don't get the blind devotion he inspires.  I have never seen someone who picks on the little guy get defended as much as him.
