SKYFALL IS NO LONGER THE WORST KEPT 007 SECRET

There's your title.

I really like the title Quantum of Solace, which puts me in the minority, but this is kind of arbitrary.

Like Nick says, the title doesn't matter because that's an incredible cast.

I predict these predictions will be 100% correct.

How can that be the title!? There aren't two O's in it that can be turned into the 0's in 007!

As of this morning (and since I first heard of it), not too keen on this title. Even 007 videogame titles (NIGHTFIRE, BLOODSTONE, EVERYTHING OR NOTHING) sound more Bondian to me. With that said, QOS sounded pretty ridiculous at first blush as well, but it's grown on me over time. Hopefully my feelings on SKYFALL will undergo a similar evolution

And the cast is excellent. So happy to see Fiennes show up, though a bit depressed to see Dench is back*

*unless she intends to portray the character the way she did in GOLDENEYE and TOMORROW NEVER DIES again

EDIT: I know SD BOB PLISKIN has stated it was never going to happen, but I still think it is a shame they didn't go with CARTE BLANCHE as a title. The recent BOND NOVEL has what is IMHO one of the best BOND TITLES of all time

Here's the synopsis that was released this morning as well....

In SKYFALL, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

This is a standalone entry, so no Quantum this time people.  I suspect they will finish the "Quantum Trilogy" with Bond 24.......which will also complete Craig's current contract.

Skyfall? Ugh...was Chunnel & Death Blow already taken? They might as well call it "Gun Movie!".

The Guardian: "Head of MI6 involved in prostitution ring."

The Sun: "Dial M for Mmmmhm, baby!"

I'm getting a "Die Another Day" feel from that poster.

Is Chicken Little singing the title song?

Skeeball.

Who cares, we'd all be there if they called it BOND 23 officially.

It very much looks like a Brosnan era logo it, italicized with the Leathal Weapon font, thankfully that is not the real one. This is the official logo: http://i40.tinypic.com/14jt9pz.jpg
post #15 of 45

I was hoping the title was going to be YESTERDAY OR NEVER AGAIN.

We're seriously bitching about something as innocuous as Skyfall as an entry to a franchise that includes titles like Thunderball, Dr. No...freakin' Octopussy?

Guess with a cast like that and Roger Deakins lensing the piece, we've got to find SOMETHING to bleat about.

Seriously? Punny titles is a Bond tradition. Skyfall sounds like a generic Direct-to-DVD action flick starring Wesley Snipes or Steven Seagal. It's kind of baffling why the went the generic route with the title.

I was holding out for Exauctoration of the Pestiferous myself. Skyfall is just too damned simple and memorable, I demand that my superspy films force me to consult a thesaurus before I can understand what they're about.

I don't think that image is official or authorized.

Edit: Oops, Mr. Stocksilevan had it covered.

Oh hell no - I love it. Maybe not the name 'Skyfall' (which will no doubt grow on me) but the logo/font choice is lovely - simple, crisp, clean, contemporary - sums up the Craig era Bond films for me.

I posted this on the BEST OR BOND thread, but yes: lovely font and logo

Reactions to QOS being announced, nearly three years ago: http://www.chud.com/community/t/105349/quantum-of-suckass

My thoughts? I don't hate it, but I don't love it. Sounds more like a codename in the tradition of THUNDERBALL, MOONRAKER and GOLDENEYE. Not sure how it's supposed to be "emotionally" relevant according to Babs, but I guess we'll see.

I was initially against the title, initially meaning as soon as I saw it, then it fell into place after a few minutes and I liked it well enough.

I still remember back before Die Another Day was announced as the title for that film, that the rumored title was DOUBLE CROSS. Now that would have been lame.

Eh it could be called James Bond In The Adventure Of The Tinkle Fairy and not one of us would pause before watching it, so really is any hand-wringing over the name in the slightest bit necassary?

Can't we be the bigger geeks for once and just move on on this one? There will be nothing learned or gained from repeating the exact same discussion we all had three years ago.

In all seriousness, it's a fine title, and it appears to be in the Bond tradition of playing with idioms and codewords. However, I am sort of jonesing for a Bond film titled after the villain (no, I don't think "Quantum" of Solace quite counts). Something spiffy like Doktor Lazertagg, where Bond goes up against evil, German toy manufacturer, Reinhardt Lazertagg, who is secretly creating next-gen superweapons in the guise of children's toys. The Broccoli's need to call me.

The title sucks dick.

The cast rocks my world. I love Harris. Bardem is outstanding and Craig is amazing.

Can't wait to see it.

Mm. I'm okay with the title. Bond titles are pretty much across-the-board retarded, so while it remains to be seen whether or not this continues the trend, it at least has some ominous allusions to it, unlike "Quantum of Solace" which I swear to God must be some kind of self-conscious, winking parody of a Bond title.

It wasn't that long ago that the series was over, or at least on a long break. I'm not going to complain about the title. On Her Majesty's Secret Service isn't a great title; its just who Bond works for. That said its one of the best Bond flicks ever.

Oh, don't get me wrong, when I complain about the titles, I'm merely nit picking, as any fan is prone to do. I like discussing the minutia of each new entry in the franchise. With that said, I get positively giddy each time that classic promise (James Bond WILL Return) comes true, and we get a new BOND movie. Craig getting to make a single BOND movie was for me a dream come true. Everything else beyond that is just gravy. Whenever I play a CRAIG BOND GAME and it's not as good as it could be, I still don't complain or hold a grudge as much as I would were the title virtually anything else, simply because I'm so excited I get to play as Daniel Craig's JAMES BOND in a big budget game

Has any one picked up GoldenEye Reloaded on 360 or PS3?  From what I can tell, it has been getting great reviews.

"007 is: PROGNOSIS: NEGATIVE!"

In all serious, it's not that bad. Actually, the only real problem is that it ISN'T bad, in the way that so many James Bond titles are bad. Gloriously bad.

Daniel Craig IS James Bond IN

I know it'll be better than The English Patient.

What? You don't like multiple combinations of the words "Gold" "Die" "Tomorrow" "World" in them? Well you suck good sir.

I rented it for a day and will get it once its cheap. Craig seems to deliver engaging voice acting for once in a BOND GAME  (usually its very half hearted), and generally its kind of fun if light and lacking in depth. I'd have prefered a straight up unchanged port of the original, or if they were going to do a remake, that they'd brought back Brosnan.. but I do love Craig and he does good work, so the whole thing is kind of interesting. Eager to try the rest one day (only played DAM). It seems like its less a remake than a reimagining. Very different from the film so far in some ways

EDIT, there is something weirdly fascinating about listening to Craig deliver classic Brosnan lines "For England, Alec". It's like you've stepped into an alternate universe

forget that quantum of solace was a great title...quantum being the organization obviously and definition of solace being "finding comfort in sorrow" fits storyline to an absolute T. Who cares how intergrated the title is anyway as long as it has the slightest meaning behind it i dont believe it can end up bad....all in all everyone would see the movie even if it was bond 23: kiss my ass

Well at least its going to be a hell of a lot easier finding words that rhyme with Skyfall than Quantum of Solace.

It'll always be Something of Boris to me.
