Gonna try something until the end of the year (All Members Read) - Page 2

Been coming to this site for years, have never posted in the forums till now. Love the podcast, where else can I get my DB Sweeney updates. Will continue to whore out the site on twitter and facebook as much as I can, but thank you to you and your crew for all the great content. With you till the last fart has shit.

Well, if the end comes, my ass is sitting in front of the fucking bulldozer.  I'm not going anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'e been reading CHUD for 10 years. Not going anywhere. Sorry to hear about the shit you're going through.

CHUD is a big part of my life, Nick. Definitely one of the best places to discuss film.

Really hope that everything works out.

I've been reading Chud as my main source of movie news since late 2004. This means Chud has been part of my life for seven years of movie geekdom. I'm a frequent lurker of the forums in which I always relied on the Chud veterans to provide the content and entertain me and they always delivered. It's shit to hear of the behind-the-scenes problems but I have faith for the Nunz. I too hope for a new awakening, hopefully for some kind of Nunzthulu. I've visited this site everyday and nothing is gonna change that anytime soon, I'm here for both the big-bang or the big-bust.

I've been reading CHUD for a while and although I don't comment on the boards I do try and stay active on the main site. That being said I, like most others am in it until the very end! I'll do my best to spread the good word. Let's hope this isn't a goodbye! CHUD still has so much more room to grow! Lets make it happen!

I know Nick's mentioned it before, but Facebook likes and Tweets of our articles are like sweet, immeasurable catnip. You have the dual benefit of letting your voice be heard as well as exposing CHUD to new people that might also become lifelong chewers. A big part of helping us keep doing what we do is unique hits. We have a great grass roots community, but now's the time to let your voice be heard so we can grow this bitch.

Fact of the matter is: there's a shit ton of sites that add to the glurge and noise about movies. But there's only ever going to be one CHUD: a place where people can come for focused film discussion, away from the bullshit. A place where, whether you agree or not, you're always guaranteed to get real opinions. This is a site that has at times both challenged and validated my love of film. Above all, it's made me a better film nerd.

CHUD's always been home to some GREAT writers. Now it's my home. And while I by no means consider myself a great writer, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help keep our home alive.

10 years ago I visited CHUD for the first time. 10 years from now I want to still be visiting CHUD and talking movies with you fine folks. Let's all be loud and proud Sewer Chewers and make it happen.

Nick Nunziata, Good luck to you.  First, I was just a lurker, having read the site for...6-7 years before joining, and I hope you and CHUD.COM find success.  I hope both you and CHUD.COM, are around for a long time, and it becomes your...Awesome Day Job!  I...Love reading the articles, posting on the net, and debating with other chewers.  Long Live CHUD.COM!

This thread made my morning.

Our pleasure, Nick.

CHUD has been a huge part of my life. Enriching my knowledge of film. Making me a more critical movie goer. There are plenty of movie site forums out there, but they just don't have the funny intelligent members that CHUD has. We love film but we're not afraid to explain why a film doesn't work as well.

Lots of epic informative discussions here over the years. It'll be a pity if they're all lost forever if CHUD ends. A reeal pity indeed.

This place is home.

To the bitter goddamned end.

I've not had the time to read or post much lately, but I don't plan on leaving. There are still plenty of writers and posters on CHUD which lesser sites/communities would probably do bad things to have hanging around, so I'll try to do my part to keep this place going.

Would it really be right to hold our annual Transformers: The Movie watch-along outside The Sewer? I highly doubt it.

After 12 years, this is still one of the first sites I visit every morning. Whatever happens, I'll still be checking in and sharing.

The green and black color scheme is fine. That the main page is unnavigable to new visitors isn't. I had no interest in GUY.com, but if the UI there allows people to find stuff, take it and reuse it.

I can't wait to see what's next, in any event.

I LOVE THIS TOWN *marshmallow goo clap*

Until the end, Nick. I was recently asked by the Thor's Comic Column guys to help out, and I jumped at the chance. Even if these next couple of months end up being CHUD's swan song, I'm really excited to contribute in any way that I can.

I've always been here and I'll always be here.  Life has prevented me from being terribly active but I read the site EVERY SINGLE DAY and have since I discovered the place.

This. I'm going to write the hell out of my reviews and put as much up on Facebook as possible! Lurked here for years before signing up in 2008, and I'm not going down without a fight.

You can't end it now! I just worked up the courage to stop lurking!

Definitely here with you til the end Nick!

I'm reading this site since 2001 and still love it. But I gotta admit my love has faded a bit.

The boards - everything's fine. I don't get why Post-Release Discussions suddenly are in Main Sewer, but discussions are stronger than ever. Again, I'm gonna wink at the B Movie Action corner which is just a stellar place to be. felix, Molts, Rene and the others, these guys are constant awesome. I'm serious. I love them. And I'm really sure that their sparks alone would be enough to attract new people to the site. And there's new life in the Creature Corner, I think. Which is great. There are some amazing personalities on the page and I'll defintely stay here until the last day.

The site - oh boy. The layout needs to be changed. It's a mess, a horror to navigate. It's the Alien Resurrection Newborn of movie sites. You can't look at the leading ~ 10 movie sites and wonder why Chud isn't among then. It's not the content. The content can be improved, yes, but aside from quick shots which have obviously only been written to enable a new item be placed every day on the site and there being too many dvd reviews, the content is fine. The content beats most of the leading top 10 movie sites. No problem there. It's just that nothing stands out. Everything looks too similar. I have no fun going through archives. Shit has to be clearer, better separated, highlights standing out. I want to regularly visit the site to look forward to new funny shit by Nunz. Or to look forward to great new articles by Renn. Right now, I need to comb everything to find that. Even in the boards in the Main Sewer. Don't forget that most people, especially new users, are horribly impatient and want to instantly find everything. Almost every other site offers that through a simple, clear layout.

I'd argue that layout change can be done in a week, two weeks max and without spending thousands of dollars. There doesn't need to be a reboot from scratch, mostly just a re-arranging. An able web designer - at gun point - should be able to do that in two days. Yes, that's not crazy. Changing a layout isn't nuclear physics. I've changed layouts in sweaty 20 hour sessions. Enough pizza and the right drinks do that. And that would already do most as people need to get a clear view on the regular Chud content. Then they'd frequent the site more often, leading to more revenue. I don't think additional recommending via twitter or facebook already solves everything. We don't need more visitors, we need those we get to return more often. And the site's content is awesome enough.

I've been a member of this board since 2004 but I had been visiting it a lot longer before that. I followed you over from IGN, Nick. AND I even remember your stints on CNN Headline News with the delightful Rudi Bahktiar!

I do love this site. I may not post a lot anymore on the boards (due to life changes and the fact that I don't see a lot of new releases until months after they're out) but I do read the boards when I can and I read the main site everyday. I've met some great people on here many of whom I'm friends with on Facebook or I follow through Twitter. And those have become great relationships and I can thank CHUD and you, Nick, for that.

This boards and its members have also helped shaped my love of movies and understanding of them. It's helped me see movies that I either liked or hated before in different lights. This place has made me see movies that I probably otherwise would have never seen. It's truly a great forum.

I know that I shouldn't be talking like it's over and I mean no disrespect to Nick and CHUD. I really do hope that the site and this message board can continue for years to come.

Thank you again, Nick for everything you've done over the years and thank you to CHUD's many staff members past and present who have helped create, shape and mold this site into what it is today.

I felt compelled to return to this thread before heading off to work this morning.  Nick, I honestly lost sleep over this issue last night.  I have been a full-fledged voice on this site for 8 years now.  I was a constant reader for an additional 3 before that.  There were times when I wasn't around as much on the board (I didn't have internet service for a two-year period), but I still made it a point to check the site out multiple times a week whenever I could manage it.  Since January, I have been on the boards AT LEAST once a day.  I am always lurking on here when I'm home.  I might not always be active (as a wife and baby tend to occupy your time), but whenever there is free-time to be had.............I'm here.  As a cinephile, CHUD is my home and a fucking amazing one at that.

Obviously things are incredibly rough behind-the-scenes and they were rough out in front for awhile as well.  To be perfectly honest, things have actually been picking up quite a bit around here recently.  A couple of months ago board activity was at an all-time low.  Now it seems to be on a steady rise again.  I used to get home from work and after everything got squared away around the homestead, I'd pop on here and usually manage to be caught up with the countless discussions within an hour.  Now it is taking a couple of hours to do so and I can't tell you how happy I am about that.  We are getting more and more articles on the main page as a result of the new contributors that have been added, as well as current staff beefing up the content.  On the boards, discussion among the regulars has picked up immensely.  Newer members are beginning to strongly voice their opinions more strongly.  I've also noticed a decent amount of "newbies" hitting the boards, many of which seem to be longtime readers that now feel compelled to be apart of the discussion.  There are hundreds of big movie sites on the 'net and probably thousands of smaller ones.  I won't lie and say that CHUD is the only one I visit.  My thirst for all things cinema is too great to keep me from looking around.  This is my home though.  This is the one that matters.  I bone up on news or catch a few editorials at other places, but this is where I contribute and voice my opinion.  I honestly don't know what I would do with myself if this place wasn't around and under your loving care, Nick.  I really don't.  I can't even fathom being cast to the wind and not being able to converse with all of you on a daily basis.  I'd miss every single damn one of you!

I don't have a "mancave" at my house.  Where we live at the moment there just isn't enough space for one.  Someday (hopefully next year) when we relocate to a larger residence, I hope to have one again.  In the meantime, I'm cool with not having one.  Do you know why?  Because CHUD is my mancave.  There is no disrespect meant to the female Chewers.  To me a mancave is a place you go to put yourself in a completely (I'm talking 100%) comfortable state of mind.  It is where, above all other places, you can completely be yourself and among your thoughts.  CHUD is that place for me and has been for over a decade.  I sincerely hope that it continues to be that place for decades to come.

Don't take away my mancave, Nick.  You'll be killing a very important part of me if you do.

Nearly 10 years reading for me. Would feel strange and sad to not be able to visit the CHUD site/boards anymore, but as the Dido woman said I will go down with this ship.

Mr Nunziata, if you do end CHUD I hope you still write movie related articles somewhere on the internet. Your style of wit and humour is something very few people do well.

I have been reading this site everyday since 2002. It's still the first website I check. Whether at home, on the road I always come here first. I lurked these boards for YEARS before finally getting a chance to sign up a year or so ago. Love that I finally got to be a member of this site.

Thank you, Nick. Really...thank you. This site took my love of film and elevated it to a whole new level. Having said that, I agree things have really changed in the last couple of years. I also agree that it is time to shake things up.

Nick, again, THANK YOU. You have done an amazing thing here.

Enough of this sentimental shit, LETS FUCK SHIT UP.

"Control room" becomes "Reviews", "Lounge" becomes "Editorials" etc etc. I quite like the look of that, its pretty easy to navigate and read and you already have access to it.

But who owns the code, Nick or the investors? We don't know. If a quick re-design is part of this trial period, and Nick owns the code, since both guy.com and CHUD operate under the same platform, I'd say...

Tear down the main page and do a simple UX redesign. Low hanging fruit is very low hanging. long live CHUD
post #77 of 529

Dunno if what I was doing over at guy.com would fly here — comics are already covered here, right?

Other than the New 52 launch, I basically just covered weird or vintage stuff anyway. I had pitched a piece to Andrea about the Superman Vs. Muhammad Ali comic before the site went toes-up.

Just echoing my love of the main site, the forums, the chewers, and the staff that runs it for us. Ever since Aint-it-cool linked a story about the Matrix sequels and brought me here, I've been here on a daily basis. I'm still not a strong writer or big enough contibutor to the boards but damn I love the community here. I know you've been saying it for a while, but I will start "liking" and linking articles to my facebook. Here til the end Nick, and I hope that's a very long time from now!

I'll be right here.

Man, I guess that's the problem with posting on a movie board, I came in here all primed to make a LOTR "You have my sword" joke, and somebody already beat me to it AND took away the possibility of a witty quote reply. Alas.

Anyway, as a fairly new user of the site, I have to say I seem to be navigating with relative ease. Maybe other people have more trouble? Maybe they were born with flippers instead of hands? I don't know. By all means, if the general consensus is a redesign, go for it, but I just felt compelled to tell you, it isn't some undecipherable labyrinth or anything. I like the site, and I like posting on it. I hope we can find a way to keep it going.

I am not ashamed to admit I shed some tears last night (and again this morning) over the news. I can only echo what SD Plissken has said here, in that I cannot imagine not having you people to talk with. The board has been great since I got back, so vibrant, so much fun. I can say without a hint of hyperbole that this community is unique, and the best I've found in all my years on the web. It breaks my heart to think of us scattered to the wind. The only thing I'd add is that CHUD is way better than a mancave, it's a cozy sewer, and going back to the TMNT, I can hardly think of a place I'd rather spend my free time. It's home

CHUD had better not close.  Where else can I talk about Doctor Who with fans who aren't INSANE?

That said... hopefully the next year is a blast. :)

Been coming here since '02

Has always been my #1 site for Movie News (developed or under development)

Never had a problem with this place (design) nor it's writers (maybe a few Headline choices that made me deter until my children weren't present)

Haven't been very active on the MB as far as writing, but always lurking and reading diverse opinions that make me think/re-think things

I take the time the Retweet or Like the things that I actually Like or think my Friends would be interested in

Can't think of a day where I didn't visit CHUD and can't comprehend a time where there won't be a CHUD

Should I win the Lotto, CHUD's getting a huge donation (been saying that to my wife for years and she's fine with it as long as it's "reasonable")

The thing about a sewer is that's full of everything (ask Andy Dufresne) and that's what I love about this place!

As you can probably infer from my join date and post count, I tend to lurk more than post around here.  I've been actively trying to change that the past few months.  If you have to shutter the site, so be it, but either way, I'll be here 'till the end.

CHUD will always be my internet home.  I sincerely hope the site pulls through, Nick.

Been lurking for nearly a decade, used to go by a long forgotten name on the boards...went on a retweeting rampage earlier and will continue to do so.  CHUD has led me to discover a great many things over the past 10 years and I fully expect it to continue to do so for a long time yet.  I see this as the lead-up to the reemergence of the site, for as great as it's been, our brightest days are still to come.  Whether I'm right or wrong, I'm here till the end.

I hope chud.com doesn't go away. Where else can I talk about movies, politics and TV?

Isn't there a variation on this thread like every other month?

Been with this site since 2002 and nothing will rip me away from it short of the apocalypse. I look forward to see what new content the guy.com staff has in store for CHUD.

I haven't been here as long as some folks, and there are times where I don't post as much. But you can be DAMN sure you have my sword, bow, and/or axe, good sirrah.

Go time: I want to hear what everyone's doing to spread the word on CHUD.

Personally: I'm posting, tweeting and facebooking the shit out of everything we're putting out there right now. Every new reader is a potential future Chewer who can throw down with the best of us on the boards. They're out there, and we need 'em!

But I'm open to new ideas. Who wants to help us out on other sites like DIGG, FilmWatch, ect.?

Feel free to friend me or follow me on Twitter, message me that you're a proud Chewer and I'll follow back right away. Let's take this shit to the masses and grow our numbers!

Love this site it's my home and I'll fight to my last breath to save it.

Donnie Bobby and I (and mike hopefully) are working on the second Saturday Morning Cartoons  entry and expect more Ask Skeletor upon my return.

Nick you are a world class gent I hope things get better for you

Hoping the metamorphosis into all new brighter shinier CHUD occurs.  Hate to lose this place.  Seems (to me) to be one of the last bastions of thought out debate rather than fanboi knee jerk reactionsim (although there is still a lot of that).

Personally I link tons to this site and will keep doing that and hopefully keep this place up.  The Internet needs CHUD.com

I like how this brings out the hopeful of the new and the worst of the old. I remember the Creepythinman threads and they were always a source of great entertainment. This means new supporters and old enemies are going to be coming out of the woodwork. I hope you get suffocated by a really really fat person CTM.

You're the best, Nick. Regardless of whether you call it a day with CHUD or keep it going til you're an old geezer, you've given all us Chewers something really special.

Like a few others here, CHUD has been my regular movie news stop for years and I was a lurker on the boards the whole time. Not out of choice; I tried to register several times and it would never go through, until one day it finally worked. Given my general grumpiness and lack of patience with anything on the internet, the fact I kept trying speaks volumes about this site and its community. I still haven't found a movie site to rival this place and it going will definitely cause a massive hole in my geek life.

So Nick, I'm here too and will to do whatever's necessary. Will be liking and tweeting the fuck out of this place, and anything else that might help.

I've been visiting this site for half my life. That kind of makes this a home.  When I should have been doing homework in the computer lab in middle school, I was browsing the site and the boards. I may not post a lot in the 6 years I've been a member of the boards, but I'm always here, and I promise to post more (I think I've posted 75 times this month, which is a huge step). If I have a spare minute at work, I'm here on my phone. I read the just about everything, even the post-release threads that go on for 100+ pages. I don't have a lot of money, but if I did, I would make many donations. Hell, if I ever decide that I want a tattoo, the Sewer Chewer would be it. I don't know what I'd do if this place disappeared. I sure as hell won't go to AICN.

Not to go super cheesy, but....

We ride together, we die together.

No this place must not be allowed to die. I have been coming here since I first dipped my toe into the internet waters. I love this place it truly is my online home even if I mostly lurk. I simply cannot comprehend the the internets  without this place. I will be doing my part to spread the word and hopefully donate soon. I am down with the CHUD till i'm all out of blood. (sorry)
