IRON LADY GETS AN IRON-CLAD RELEASE DATE

God damn I hate this movies very existence. If it were a gigantic oscar-bait piece about the wonders of Reagan or Nixon, the US would be torn in two arguing over it, but because it's just the Brits old fascist dictator, they can ignorantly wade in with what seems to be a god-damn hagiography to this sociopathic blue blood patrician and treat this most divisive of world leaders as if she was the fucking Queen or something. ugh.

‘Never Compromise’… Shudder.

I really try and be open-minded about film and steer clear of your typical ‘Internet Warrior’ frothing, but in this case I can’t muster the benefit of the doubt. Coming from a Geordie family and having grown up in England during the 80s I cannot get behind this movie at all. The economic good Thatcher’s credited with bringing to England was focussed on the mid-upper class/young professional demographic, and gutted entire regions that she and her Tory chums had barely-disguised contempt for.

Even if her economic changes were ultimately needed, which some of them were (The coalmining industry, for example, couldn’t have sustained itself at the level it had been for most of the century) Thatcher’s sledgehammer, ‘Fuck-‘em-we-don’t-need-them’ approach cut the mining regions’ legs from under them to en extent that they’re still trying to recover from today.

This woman ruined lives. Thousands of them. Many thousands. Whitewashing her story into ‘Sisters are doin’ it for themselves’ Oscar-fodder sickens me. Fuck this thing, and all who sail in her.

Yes, my thoughts exactly, Rain Dog. I complained about this on the board and was shouted down, since supposedly ones politics coloring your perception of a film like this is not the way you're supposed to view movies

Really disgusted with this whole project, especially in the age of OCCUPY
