Ridley shares where you can expect to find the Alien-connection in his upcoming film.

Same stuff that we've known for 10 months now.  I wish he would just admit it's a prequel to the film Alien as well.  It's obvious it is at this point, we've seen the pics, we've heard the cast interviews.

I remember reading that complete spoiler filled "plot summary" from awhile back, what Ridley says with the "last 8 minutes" seems to fit right in with that report.

My concern is that it'll end up feeling arbitrary. Like "8 minutes left, time to appease the nerds." I give Ridley more credit than that, but I think Marvel's setting a scary precedent by shoehorning Avengers shit into their leadup films. Case in point, Captain America. Nick Fury might as well have yelled "Avengers!" WINK.

What I'm saying is that I hope it isn't forced. If they connect it to Alien, I hope it feels natural.

It's also something that could potentially confuse people, especially people who don't know the Alien series as intimately as most of us, if it just feels like a standalone sci-fi movie that suddenly goes "Surprise! Here's Aliens!" There's the risk of people being yanked out of what's looking like a very interesting story, and likely walking away unsatisfied because now that they know Xenos were involved, feeling cheated that there weren't more of them.

Still, we can only wait and see. Either way, it's gonna be a bloody fascinating thing to watch unfold.

I'd been very wary about this project, but my hype levels are definitely rising. I'm going to let my defenses down and give in to my inner child, the one who at 12 years old declared Scott to be her favorite director, and hope that he has something special here beyond a purely commercial venture. I hope he's going to take Fox's money and make something unique and weird

Best of luck, Mr Scott!

I'm mostly interested at this point, as to how they will market this film.  It will be interesting to say the least.

Will the words "Alien" come up..?

I think we can definitely count on "From the director of Alien" popping up in the trailers at some point.

Oh, no doubt... I just wonder if it will be marketed as a stand alone Sci Fi film from the director of Alien.  or, will they hint, or even declare that this happens in the same universe as Alien and is a prequel?

For instance, the new "The Thing" film was a prequel, but the trailers presented it as, pretty much, a remake.

I guess for the record, it was a remake minus the last scene that tied it together.

I just hope Ridley has something better up his sleeves then a after credit scene with a Space Jockey jumping in the derelict, and taking off.... then hearing a egg open with him looking back to a Facehugger jumping at him... cut to black

I wouldn't be too surprised if Aliens were all over the trailers or TV spots kind of like Arnold and Bruce in the Expendables spots.

All of that "It isn't Alien 5 or an Alien remake, but it does have traces of Alien DNA" bullshit talk will probably end once the first poster or trailer hits. It's a 200m dollar movie. It has to deliver big time, big time to be a success. Especially after Robin Hood not doing that. It'd be insane not to use the iconic imagery or the tagline FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ALIEN to sell this.

I get they're afraid of naming this the follow-up to AVPR, or brushing off series fans by saying it's another of those shitty remakes, but they can't hide forever. I bet we'll see a first poster before the end of the year and it'll reveal what it is.

I really believe that is the main reason the word "Alien" is not on this film.  The AVP films weren't successful in the box office, critically panned, and hated by most of the Alien fan base.

Can you blame them for being scared about having this film seen as maybe the third in that series?  Too many dumbasses include those two films in the cannon of the Alien series and consider them a prequel.

It's all about "branding" nowadays, and to be fair, the Alien brand is hurting after the last three (or four) films to include the alien.
