Josh makes a rainbow connection to a new franchise.

Excellent choice and great article, Josh. the Muppet movie always makes me think of sausage balls because I first watched it when my parents had company over and I would sneak in to the dining room and sneak a sausage ball off the table. The two are inextricably linked.

I haven't seen the movie in decades, and part of me doesn't want to watch it without a place of sausage balls. Sadly, my mother claims she has never heard of sausage balls, insists she has never made them, and certainly doesn't have the recipe. I am unwilling to randomly try sausage ball recipes until stumbling on the right one.

This is easily the strongest correlation I have between food and movie. I can't think Muppet Movie without thinking about sausage balls.

Nice choice and great article. I have enjoyed the Franchise Me articles, even if it is series I don't like.  Great work.

The Muppet Show was a sketch show; though aspects of the show evolved over time (such as the romantic relationship between Kermit and Miss Piggy), it didn’t do a lot of character exploration

notably Gonzo’s sad and sweet campfire lament, “I’m Going to Go Back There Someday.” Muppeteer Dave Goelz’ Gonzo singing voice is surprisingly gentle and nuanced and the song’s aching tone is somewhat unexpected in such a silly film.

I hate to argue but...

Listen to Gonzo's lament ("The Wishing Song") from the Madeline Kahn episode for a big example. Shades of "Being Green".

Nice write-up though.

Building a respected and financially successful empire entirely on puppets is an truly, truly, truly ludicrous goal; made even more ludicrous by wanting these puppets to appeal to adults as well as children.

As Dr. Teeth would say... "Too true. Too true." And yet he did. And why Jim's always been one of my personal heroes.
