Happy Carl Sagan Day!

If it's not an international holiday, it damn well should be.

With science and exploration getting more and more on the back-burner lately, awesome people like him are sorely needed to keep reminding us of the big picture.

And in case some unfortunate soul doesn't yet know, this is what I'm talking about:

I grew up watching Cosmos. This reminds me I have some books of his left to read.

Folks like Brian Cox and Neil deGrasse Tyson are certainly trying to carry on his legacy, with varying degrees of success.  I know I'll be checking out the new Cosmos when it returns, especially if they manage to get Vangelis back.

COSMOS was amazing. Those of you have never seen it really need to remedy that oversight.

Agreed, and for those in the US (or our international friends that know how to work around the region block) the entire series is free on Hulu.

Also on Netflix! See it!

For my money Cosmos is the best thing to ever air on TV. Bar none. I don't think anyone has shaped my mind to the degree Sagan did. Not even close. Not my parents, not my teachers, neither priest not philosopher. I'm an atheist because of Sagan. I'm a humanist because of Sagan. I love science because of Sagan.

Carl Sagan, fuck yeah! I've posted about him before and honestly if I was gonna have a man crush..pow! Carl Sagan. My dad had a crappy bootleg of Cosmos he showed me when I was a kid and then he bought the VHS boxset. I've shown it to my girls and my oldest daughter fell in love with it. We sit out with our telescope and have "dad time" at least twice a week and it's all thanks to Carl Sagan. So many people look up into the sky and just see the sky, he looked up and saw EVERYTHING.

Carl Sagan should be on money.

If I wasn't forum'tarded I would just embed this video but here's a link. A Glorious Dawn.

It was! I watched it on streaming not 6 months ago. Damn you Netflix!

Through this thread, I learned that Hugo Weaving clearly based his vocal mannerisms for Agent Smith on Sagan!  It's AMAZING.  I didn't realize it while watching Shan's Youtube link.  I thought it was just some fan who was reading Sagan's words while mimicking Weaving.  Then I started watching Cosmos on Hulu.

I can't NOT hear it.  The whole time, it feels like I'm being pranked.
