What, did she accidently wander into a group of real rocker chicks or something?

Took a wrong turn and ended up crossing paths with some Roller Derby girls?

Spasm while shaving her own eyebrows?

Please, that just looks like she was wearing a bondage mask a little too tight.   Woman up, girl.

The best part of this whole thing is Avril tweeted, “I got attacked by 5 people last night out of nowhere. Not cool."

She later tweeted, "So not ok to be abusive to others. Violence is NEVER the answer."

What is she 12? What is with the middle school PSAs?

"Got stabbed last night. Lame."

"Had to pull down underwear to pee. Lame"

"I got hit by a car. Weak."

If she was attacked, that sucks. However this is the first I've heard of her in years, and due to the superficial nature of her wounds, I have to wonder if it's a publicity stunt

Well it's good to see we can all come together and celebrate Avril getting her ass kicked...............for some reason. She was so pretty.

"Stalker killed my pug. DUDE!"

Should we have expected anything less from Pamper Punk?

I had no idea Levine was so hated.  What the hell?

If being an American has taught us anything it's that violence is a great problem solver at least in the short term. Whether or not it's the correct thing is immaterial. Bet your ass Avril will remember the beat down she got because I really don't believe it was random. Mayhap she started some shit and got smacked. Whatever it was better believe she'll go the opposite direction next time because she really is more puss and less punk.

It's been like this since she first became big.  She started out as trying to present herself as a real punk-rocker, which is kind of hard to do when most of your stuff appears on Z100.  Eventually she just gave up and accepted the "hot girl in band" image that is common in the industry and blessed us with such hits like "Girlfriend" and that one where she pretty much says that she should be able to fuck around, and her boyfriend shouldn't complain about it.

I bet her dad is pissed.

I never got the impression that she was positioning herself as a "real" punk, or that anyone would've taken such a claim seriously anway.  And none of that explains why a group of adults who aren't punk fanatics would respond to a story about her being assaulted with "LULZ TAKE THAT BITCH HAAHA" like what?  8 years later?

She got tuned up at the Roosevelt?  That place is safer than a nun's crotch.

Did someone whip her on the face?

The long scratch so close to her eye suggests she playing rugby against a Frenchman.

Man, Bucho, that's just filthy

I feel bad she got hurt.

Because she is pretty. I care fuck all about her music.

Bucho's reference went over my head, but somehow I feel like I dodged a bullet on that one

As a former daily watcher of TRL, better believe that she did try to act like she was a real punk, throwing up the devil horns and sticking out her tongue and all that shit.  She talked major shit about the major pop stars of the day like Britney and Christina, which earned her backlash from their fans.  She talked shit about how her own fans would show up to concerts wearing ties to emulate her, and she was rightfully called out by her peers (most memorably Hilary Duff) about being an ungrateful, disrespectful little cunt to her fans.  She tried so hard to alienate pop fans that she ended up alienating her own fans.  She mocked all of the girls who she claimed were part of the music industry machine while declaring herself to be "real", when she was just as big a puppet as the rest of them.  Personally, I was never a fan, but I do remember being puzzled as to why anyone would mock their own fans for dressing up like them for a concert.  Maybe it's just me, but if I was famous and a little girl walked up to me dressed up like me and said I was her hero, I'd be beyond honored.

All the behavior you described sounds way more punk than I ever would've given her credit for.  I remain mostly surprised that anyone in 2011 has any strong feelings about Avril Levine.   It's not like TRL has actually been a thing since...hell, I don't know.  2002?  Is TRL still a thing?  I suppose it could be.

Bah. Until she shoves her mike up her ass or vomits onstage, she's a wannabe.

Or at least, jump on someone in the pit and beat his fucking ass up.

Yes, I don't really see anything wrong with slagging off your fans if they show up in little cookie cutter outfits. Sure Avril's whole image was just savvy marketing, but she herself seems to have a bit of genuine edge to her as a person, no?

For some reason every single time this thread pops up I read the title as "licked" not "kicked."

Not sure which one would have been more interesting.

Yeah, sorry about that, probably not the most "international" reference I could have made. In the Rugby Union world the French have long had a reputation for playing dirty in the ruck with a sneaky eye-gouging or testicle-grabbing here or there and they've recently confirmed once again it for the world to see.

Not that the Aussies are much better, right Glisten?

Thing is Avril probably has the local bobbies in her pocket.

...and now I've introduced antiquated English colloquialisms into the derail. Sorry.

Oh no worries, now I've learned something. I didn't think it was a sports reference at first!

I know about bobbies at least, haha

The joke being that "playing rugby against the Frenchman" sounds like it's a euphemism for something really dirty.

The scratch over her eyelid is pretty fucked up. I guess she's not big enough to have gigantic minders to protect her these days.

IIRC she was one of the first of these poptarts to talk about "writing her own songs" - in all seriousness. Apparently the general rule in a situation where management tries to get the act's name on the writing credits is that they get them to scrawl bad teenage poetry or just "thoughts" in a notebook, which is then turned over to freelance songwriters who have to try and turn these insane ramblings into pop tunes. This dumb kid is sitting at the end of the pipeline thinking that they've actually written their own songs.

I think when someone within the system actually somehow misses the fact that they're a manufactured act it creates a lot of bad will, particularly when the Diva/Ego factor kicks in.

Also, I think her genre was "Skate Punk" - whatever the fuck that is.

Apparently five people against one thought that violence was the answer, so I do believe you've been out-voted Ms. Lavigne. Now, please, click here

So proud no one took advantage of her being Canadian to make fun of her.

She was with her boyfriend, Brody Jenner, who despite getting a bottle smashed over his head, ended up the sole person standing after the scuffle. He put the smack down on some bitches, filed a police report, and then drove himself to the hospital.

Hey now, its bad enough the flack we take for Bryan Adams and Celine Dion, and now Justine Bieber..........shit. Suddenly I have an image in my head of an American on a beach screaming at a giant Bieber statue head.

Anyway, as for Levine, she started out as a christian singer doing shows and stuff, got discovered, and remolded to fit the 'pop punk' thing that was getting big (blink, sum41, etc..)

Not sure why she should get punched though.

Back to Arvil being a punk. She once said, "Just because I don't know who the Sex Pistols are, doesn't mean I'm  not punk." YES IT DOES!!!

Canada's positive rock n roll contributions are: Rush, Neil Young, Sebastien Bach, and Kiss tribute bands Alive and Black Diamond.

I'd disagree. Punk is an attitude, and a knowledge base of bands from 30 years ago shouldn't be a requirement in order to be punk

A punk musician should probably know them, but I don't think you'd have to know them to be punk

In music everybody takes their cues from who came before them and they put their spin on it. I am by no means a Beatles, but I think Cheap Trick is awesome. I know that there would be no Cheap Trick if it wasn't for The Beatles.

I knew a dude who was so into hardcore punk, he didn't think The Sex Pistols, Ramones and The Clash were punk bands. Yet he did know who they were.

I am just saying the term punk is broader than just punk music. You can be punk and not know big punk bands

At, I believe, the Grammy's a few years back she pronounced David Bowie as David bau-ē then proceeded to say: "I knew I was going to get somebody's name wrong."  Now, if I was simply a Bowie fan, I'd let that slide, but I'm a Bowie obsessive, and we never let shit slide. And it's Lavigne.
