That's almost as bad as when somebody pronounces Bowie as Boo-ey. I am also a Bowie obsessive &, no, shit like that will not stand.

Canada's positive rock n roll contributions are: Rush, Neil Young, Sebastien Bach, and Kiss tribute bands Alive and Black Diamond.

I'd add Matthew Good, both solo and with the Matthew Good Band, and Big Wreck to that list.

Don't forget Peaches.

I never liked Metallica's "Fuel" all that much, but when Lavigne sang the song on MTV, which Lars pretended to be interested, I about lost all faith in humanity.

"Just because I don't know what the hell clouds are doesn't mean I'm not qualified to be a weatherman".

The Sex Pistols are the definitive punk band. If she is going to call herself a punk, she should know who they are. I'm not a fan of punk*, but I know the basic history of the band.

Bob Erzin is Canadian is a great contributor to rock n roll. He has produced Alice Cooper, Kiss and Pink Floyd albums.

*There are punk songs I like and I appreciate the attitude, but as far as the late 70' s music goes, if you wanted to hear 3 minute rock song with a lot of attitude I can think of better choices: Kiss, AC/DC, Van Halen, Cheap Trick and Thin Lizzy for instance.

I do recommend seeing one of Henry Rollins spoken word shows.

I think its the idea that if you love the culture so much that you mold your lifestyle around it, then maybe knowing where the fuck it came from might deflect those notions that you 'might just be in it for the money'.

anyway, fuck punk, give mes beatniks and mods any day ;)

It's not even a debate. It goes beyond punk rock when you don't know who the Sex Pistols or David Bowie are. Are you just willfully ignorant?

I met a young kid, around the age of 19 or 20, who has lived in NY his whole life and now attends college. We ended up watching the World Series together, and it turns out he knows nothing about baseball. But then he asks, wait, so where are the Yankees from? Connecticut?

There's not understanding some form of culture and history, and then there's just being fucking oblivious.

Are you sure he wasn't fucking with you?  Maybe making a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court joke?

I wish he was. I wish he was.

Can't be. I live half way around the world, think watching baseball is more boring than watching paint dry (I've done both and I know what I'm talking about) and I still know where the big teams are based.
