I think this is nothing but good news. As consumers we need more choice and if this review (and others like it) are spot on then Microsoft have actually created something innovative and interesting.

Thoughts?

Interesting article. My take?

If you want consumers to choose what's best for them, you'll wind up with the Poochy of mobile phones. People don't need choice, then need smarter people to make the choices for them

With that said, APPLE needs competitors if for no other reason than to remind them they must never slow their relentless pace of innovation, so I applaud Microsoft stepping up to the plate. I look forward to starting the END OF WINDOWS PHONE thread in two years time*

*once APPLE has taken microsoft's best ideas (if there are indeed any worthwhile innovations to be found), improved them and then integrated them into iOS

From the same website: People not really using their Ipad

She called it a fondle slab. hehe!

But back to the topic, I like having options. Monopolies doom the marketplace to inefficencies. American telecommunications infrastructure sucks because there is not enough competition between ISPs outside of large metro areas. I have two options for internet at home, Comcast and BellSouth. Both are shoddy, offer poor service and speeds, and cost more than they should.

I welcome a Nokia/Windows in the market. My only real problem is apps that don't work cross platform. If we could design apps across different platforms, then I would be happy to switch operating systems.

I played around with one of the new Windows Mango phones... a version of the Samsung Galaxy I think. It is pretty

slick. I like the "live tiles" on the OS, and it has Xbox Live on it! Which allows me to play Pac Man! Can't do that on an iPhone!

Thing is, that phone is $199 plus a 2 year contract with AT&T. That makes it $50-$60 more than the Android Galaxy.

Yeah The Register is basically the "Chud" of Tech Websites: Smart Funny and with interesting forums.

Back on topic I think this phone is a taste of what we will get from Windows 8, which from what am reading may actually have some genuinely revolutionary ideas - the dual boot system for example is an amazing idea.
