86  WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S

the prop: Bernie

The film wouldn't have worked if Terry Kiser's performance as Bernie hadn't been so dead on.

The Prop:  Dick Halloran's lady paintings

All these years after its release, Halloran's paintings still manage to steal at least some of the show.

Thanks to yt for reminding me of another set of paintings that steal the show.

91. The Movie: The Royal Tenenbaums

      The Prop: Eli Cash's paintings

One of the strongest memories I have about seeing the Royal Tenenbaums in the theater was the scene when Richie Tenenbaum (Luke Wilson) visits Eli Cash's (Owen Wilson) home. I have no memory abut what happened in those scenes because it is one of the few times I've been at a theater in which the audiences laughter completely covered up the dialog of the film. Every time the camera cut to a painting the laughter renewed and continued until the scene was over.

I'm surprised this didn't come up with the rest of the Bond stuff:

99. The Movie: Star Wars

     The Prop: The Death Star

DSI_hdapproach.jpg

"That's no moon..."

I debated about this one because a very good argument could be made that this a set for the entire second act of the film and not a Prop, but when conversations about the death star take place you can bet that most people will be picturing the prop miniature of the death Star and not the sets built to represent the inside.

101: The JUMANJI GAME from JUMANJI

6321631_6_l.jpg

JUMANGI-1.png

I loved this game! It's available now for $8000-$10000 at auction, complete with all sorts of other cool props from the film. The sinister look of the wood carvings, the entire design of the game board, I just am fascinated with it. I own the JUMANGI BOARD GAME made from cardboard. It's not a great game, but I played it countless times just to get a chance to look at the cool design

(If any Chewers want that auction, it's decked out with mondo swagg - including the prototype PARRISH HI TOP sneakers, including one shredded by machine!)
