What a fascinating movie this is but not for the reasons Roland Emmerich imagined. The movie starts out with an actor playing a classy version of Glenn Beck laying out the conspiracy theory that William Shakespeare could not have possibly wrote the plays he was famous for. Why? Because William Shakespeare was poor.
What follows is 2 1/2 hours of the most elitist movie I've ever seen. Imagine having a movie that wants you to root for the Koch Brothers, Bernie Madoff, Glenn Beck, and Bill O'Reilly and you have "Anonymous". And there's even an eye opening glimpse into how the elite view the Tea Party as a "useful mob". I kid you not, the nobleman who supposedly really wrote Shakespeare's plays releases "King Lear" to provide a mob that will back his choice to succeed Queen Elizabeth. The plan fails and the peasants are mowed down but the real tragedy according to this film is that the guy who wants to be king didn't get his Tea Party to back him up.
I can't really recommend this movie but you should definitely watch it when it comes on video only to wonder at how a movie could have even been made and how the studio thought this could possibly appeal to the masses except for 1% of them.
