(submitted my comment as a screen cap since the board ate my original post and I didn't want to retype it all)

Completely understandable.  The only way to stand out anymore when it comes to mafia/mob stories is in execution.

I like Evans but nothing he has done suggests he's a better actor than Franco, who should have at least been nominated for 127 hours. Haven't seen cap though.

Looking forward to seeing a 300 pound Shannon.

Eh not looking forward to Shannon or Evans in this. Both are solid actors but the Iceman deserves a bigger actor with some chops.

Anyone have any ideas? I can't come up with any which probably explains Shannon.

Just be happy it isn't Tom Cruise

I prefer Evans for the simple fact that he doesn't rub me the wrong way like Franco does.  There are very few actors that make me hesitant about watching a film and Franco is one of them.  While I have every intention of watching it soon, this is part of the reason why I haven't seen 127 Hours yet.

That and Evans won't phone this in.......................whereas with Franco it'd be a 50/50 shot of getting an actual engaged performance from him.

I still can't fucking come to grips with this.

Anyway on topic, nice to see this picking up some steam. It's very interesting how he managed to turn his sociopathy into gainful employment. Because if he wasn't a hitman he'd be torturing and killing people in his basement for fun. Read up a bit on it. Dude was the scariest motherfucker on the planet.

I saw a documentary on this guy in 97 or 98 and always thought it'd make a great film.  I like the casting of Shannon.  Could be interesting if he gains weight, grows a beard and wears some lifts in his shoes.  I hope he gets that wierd gum chewing, jaw clicking thing Kuklinski does.  Evans is an interesting choice and unlike his obvious counterpart Ryan Reynolds, he can tone down his schtick and play things straight.

Michael Shannon can do anything, and I've seen Chris Evans be funny (he was great in The Losers).  The story certainly has cinematic potential but you almost never know anymore.  So, fingers crossed.

Jesus you had to bring that up didn't you. Damn you One Shot.

What's the problem?  I'm sure Cruise will be fine as Jack Reacher.

The reason for my optimism is that I hear they're using mo-cap.  Or was it forced perspective?

He's probably a bit old now, but Vincent D'Onofrio would have rocked the living shit out of The Iceman

Have I ever said I love you Rain Dog? Because I do. Great choice and totally agreed.

Shannons going to have to bulk up a bit for the part surely. Kuklinski was not an unimposing man afterall...

It's a shame, Rourke would have been spot on for the role. Tho if they were ready to cast him at his age, then maybe D'Onofrio could have gotten a look-in. Guess we'll never know now.

Shannons great and all, but his casting suggests to me film-makers desperate for an actor who's hot right now rather than someone best suited for the role.

I still agree with the CHUD article from about 4 years ago that claimed he looked like Paul Bartel........

Tom Hardy has the intensity for the role.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't Rourke linked to an entirely separate Kuklinski biopic? This one slowly picked up more steam, so I guess the Rourke one died, but I remember his version being the last wishes of Philip Carlo, who penned the book "The Iceman." Carlo always wanted Rourke, but when they told him they wanted Channing Tatum for the role (wha?) he told them to go fuck themselves. And then DIED.

Guy sounds like a hero to me.

With Rourke dropping off so many interesting projects, it feels like I'm dodging bullets left and right. I love The Wrestler but Aronofsky should be blamed a bit for fooling everyone into believing that Rourke wasn't just a lunatic and that he mattered again.

The fact that Tarantino completely lost interest in trying to work with him says a lot.  It almost looks as if only Robert Rodriguez and Tony Scott are still actively trying to work with him (outside of those wanting him for "name" value) and Mickey will likely burn his bridge with Rodriguez by asking for too much money to do Sin City 2 when it is finally ready to film.......................something that Mickey is already hinting at when asked about the project.  He also seems to have blown off Stallone, who wanted him back in The Expendables 2.

That will leave Tony Scott as only one who wants to deal with him (they have at least two projects in the works)...........and how long until he ruins that as well?

I see what your future holds, Mickey, and it ain't pretty......
