CHUD2011swag.jpg

From subotai! Long may he roam the steppes with his vintage late 70s mustache!

One post-acopalyptic/fantasy book - excellent choice as I am literally now looking for something epic to read.

A pound o' dice - because a gamer can never have too many.

One sand-based timer - to keep my players on their toes.

One all-purpose cycling tool to save me from emergencies on the road next summer. And there will be emergencies, because I am accident-prone like crazy on the bike.

Well done, and thank you!

Tim K. brings the awesome:

Thanks sir!  I got one more day off before I go back to work this week, soooo I know what I'm gonna do.

Michael M has made me a happy, happy man. I got home from an epic 6 hour tech/dress rehearsal to find:

Xmas.jpg

Paths of Glory on BluRay and the new translation of Creating a Role. Let me just geek out for a moment: These new translations of Stanislavski by Jean Benedetti have been setting the academic acting world ablaze. Everyone loves them. Now I have a copy of one.

And according to the other thread, there is still something else on the way. Michael, you are too generous. Thank you.

This right here, among many other reasons, is why CHUD is my favorite place on the 'net.  You are all really like one big extended family to me.  I can't wait to join in on the fun next year!

Looking like some good hauls so far!

The CHUD gift exchange has been berry, berry good to me.

Ken's gonna dog me with gifts until he sees me DEAD!!!

So I get this little package in the mail.  Address is from New York, and I know Ken's in the UK.  So I'm confused.  It's one of those small soft pouches that is lined with bubble wrap inside.  Inside it is a clump of rough recycled paper.  Still confused.  I keep unwrapping it thinking that it must be the 10 Gillette razor cartridges I ordered on Amazon.  I unwrap the paper longer than I thought I would.  And I realize that it couldn't be the razors.

I had a good laugh when I found THIS:

(I just threw in the totem pole for fun)

P1060644.jpgP1060645.jpg

(did I overdo it?  Hahahahah)

I just sent out Nick's present today.  It should be there by Monday.  Don't be fooled by the large FedEx box though, Nick!  It's mostly stuffing to protect the present itself!!!

Lil' Optimus looks smug as fuck.  I love it!

Enjoy! Now you can show off that fancy blu-ray player.

Parker, fuckin' A.

So I'm a great big WWE fan, especially of CM Punk, but I have none of his merchandise.  All I wanted for Xmas this year was his t-shirt, that's it, and that's all I asked of Parker.  A few minutes ago, my doorbell rings, and I get a package addressed to "her royal highness" that is too big to just be a t-shirt.  Look what Parker did!

P1020563.JPG

That is his t-shirt, hat, wristbands, necklace, and A FUCKING AUTOGRAPHED PICTURE.  I died.  DIED, I tell you.    Thank you so so so so so much!

PARKER FUCKING RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're so welcome! I'm glad you got it safe and sound and I hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays! :)

That gift is as big a monster as Parker himself!!!

Indeed!  The colors...they're so beautiful...

*sniff*

No words...should have sent a poet...

Also, Where the Wild Things Are looks fantastic, and I'm so glad to finally have it in the collection.  LOVE that movie.  And I can get around to re-reading Preacher.  I've read the whole thing, but not in a LONG time.  Thanks again, Josh.  You are a gentleman and a scholar.

I had a very long week of work (in Atlanta for SEC Championship, then had to fly back to NYC to work an NFL studio show) but I was able to get through it because I knew that Harley's gift box would be awaiting me when I got home.  Here's what she got me:

IMG_0006.JPG

Why yes, that is ALL 5 SEASONS OF "SIX FEET UNDER".  Such a great show with one of the best ensemble casts of the last decade.  I just wish Alan Ball would move on from vampire bullshit.

Just that would have been fucking backflip-worthy...but there was more.

IMG_0007.JPG

THE SEARCHERS and IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT are films I am ashamed to admit that I have not yet seen.  That will be fixed this week.  I'm about to finish the new Stephen King book & I've been hearing countless people rave about The Hunger Games series.  This will be read very soon as well.

You're the bee's knees, Harley!!

Glad you loved it as much as I loved finding it!

The indomitable Will Kane sent me this:

Swag 2k11.JPG

Yes, that is a Blu Ray player (which I previously did not own, despite owning many blu-rays) and a Criterion blu ray of 12 Angry Men and a copy of The Third Man, neither of which I have ever seen but can now watch in incredibly amazing definition!

This is the second year in a row that Will Kane has given out a goddamn blu-ray player.  Will Kane is a BOSS.

I guess the GREAT Will Kane wasn't awesome enough to get Doc the OOP CRITERION version of The Third Man blu-ray!  Mwuh huh huh... (jealous)

Seriously.  Too awesome.

Thanks folks.  I know that everyone on here is a big film fan & to me, the best way to watch a film at home is via Blu-ray.  If I learn that someone on here doesn't have a Blu-ray player and I'm in position to fix that, then I will fix it.

And yes, I was upset that the Criterion version of THE THIRD MAN is out of print.  That's arguably may favorite film ever and part of me felt bad that I couldn't give it to Doc in the best possible manner.

Hammerhead came up trumps.....

IMG_0798.JPG

Havent seen ether of them and the DC flicks are hard to find in this country.

Thanks man, you are a legend.

FedEx tracking tells me that my package has been left at Nick's front door!  NNNGGGHHHRAGH!!!  I feel so HELPLESS!  I hate worry about shipping!!!

Question, do you ask for suggestions in PMs or am I just this woefully uninformed about my fellow Chewers that I would find it difficult to purchase something for them?

That was faster than expected! I forgot to inquire whether you're able to play the region code-- hope that's not a problem.

Hints are helpful to be sure. Ken specifically mentioned being unable to acquire DTV DC Animated movies, and indicated that he was Blu-ready, but didn't name any titles. As for the Bond Lotus, I recalled his mentioning the car in the "Scene-Stealing Props" thread, and coupled that with his professed interest in vintage (or vintage-style) toys.

In my case, I asked Will Kane via PM what his interests were in terms of film, tv, sports, etc. to give me a barometer of what he'd like.  I asked which TV box sets he already had, so that I wouldn't get him a set he already had, and I looked back through his posts and saw that he digs Six Feet Under, so I gave him the whole series.  He made a crack about my hatred of Twilight, which gave me the idea of getting him The Hunger Games book.  Looking through The Hunger Games book and film threads revealed that he hadn't made any postings, so it was safe to assume that he hadn't read the book yet.  The other stuff was representative of my taste, since he asked for something that I liked and would recommend for him.

That looks like the exact same Blu player he got me last year - which is awesome because that thing is fucking GREAT.

My hint to Chris Olson was a somewhat vague "Anything 3D". He must have detected my interest in stop-motion animation elsewhere, as Coraline was a perfect choice. I hadn't heard of the book before, but it looks fascinating and I love the built-in viewer:

Thanks Chris!

You're very welcome, sir.  Glad the gifts are a hit.  I almost bought you Chaplin's Modern Times on Blu Ray, because you mentioned that you had those Harold Lloyd books.  But then I thought...wait, he loves 3D, and Coraline has the best use of it so far, so I'll get that instead.  I had never heard of that book before either, but it looks pretty cool, actually.  There's a whole series of them on Amazon, so if you like it, there are plenty more.

There's one 3D book that's all moon-landing pictures. I've been meaning to pick it up.

Once again, I have to thank Parker for his gift of a CM Punk t-shirt...because tonight, I MET CM PUNK AND GOT THAT SHIRT AUTOGRAPHED.

P1020585.JPG

WWE is in town for its Tribute to the Troops show, and since my dad is retired military, I got to go to a meet and greet tonight.  I was literally the ONLY PERSON there wearing this shirt, and I think it helped get me extra attention from him.  He had the biggest smile on his face when he saw me in his shirt.  I cannot tell you how much tonight meant to me, and I owe a bit of it to you, Parker!

I got a most beautiful piece of art. Will put a photo soon.

Glad Nick didn't get stiffed.

Oh jeez, am I relieved!  I was afraid that something happened to the parcel.  I'm glad you like it, Nick!

Work was a complete disaster today (Saturday).  Most of the customers were absolutely awful and the tips were even worse.  After I got off work (around 11pm), I drove 30 minutes to go pick up my wife and son from her parents house.  We hung around there for a bit more and then headed off.  I had to stop at the store to pick up some diapers and wipes, as well as partially fill up the gas tank.  We then make the 30 minute trip back to our home.  I carried everything in (she and her mother wrapped a lot of presents today, including some that we have to give to others), while my wife got Aiden settled with his last bottle of the night.  While he was eating, I took a shower.  Once I was dressed, I put him down for the night.  My wife started watching one of the shows she has up on Instant.

At this point, I remembered that I had forgotten to check the mail.  So I tossed on a hoodie and shoes and headed outside.  I forgot how damn cold it was.  Too damn cold to be wearing pajama pants, but I was too lazy to go back in.  I trekked down the short driveway, across the little bridge, and across the street to the mailbox.  I cursed myself for not waiting until tomorrow.  After all, there was no possible way we could have any Netflix discs coming in.  A few were still in the house and the rest had been sent off this morning.  My last Amazon order had already arrived earlier in the week.  The only two magazines we get at the moment had already shown up for the month as well.  The mailbox would like contain nothing more than trash or bills.............or would be completely empty.  Imagine my surprise when I found a package waiting for me!

I apologize for not taking an actual picture for this, but I can't seem to locate our digital camera...............which I suspect my wife probably left at her parent's house today.  Anyway, still pictures will have to do for now....

Schwartz, you're the man!  I've REALLY been looking forward to seeing Sherlock and this book looks excellent!  And apparently there is more to come!  You are one generous dude!  I just hope you enjoy what I'll be sending you (which should ship early this coming week) as much as I am enjoying your gifts.
