Help Me Pick At The Wii's Corpse

I'm now the proud owner of a $60 Wii, and am very slowly building the library on the cheap. The usual suspects are already good as bought. Black Friday (well, Saturday for me) bore decent fruit: Managed to fanagle Mario Galaxy, Punch Out, and Twilight Princess from GS yesterday thanks to the 2 for 1 used deal. Got Metroid Other M from BB (I've heard conflicting opinions, but that $5 price buys a lot of forgiveness). A ton of obvious first party stuff that need not mention. I'm looking for the buried treasure. The little gems that escaped most people on that system. Already got a bunch lined up--Boom Blox, Sin And Punishment, Madworld, HOTD Overkill, the Boy And His Blob remake, Muramasa, Trauma Center: SO--but I'd love to know if there's stuff I may have missed that I should give a good home.

Keeping in mind, it's primarily going to be *me* playing with that thing. So, Smash Bros notwithstanding, party game bullshit need not apply.

Aaaand go.

Zak and Wiki is the only one I can think of right now, but it's fantastic.

Ha, came in to mention Zak and Wiki myself.

Also, the Metroid Prime trilogy is great, but it looks like Amazon is selling it for $143 (?!??!)

No More Heroes got some great reviews, although I wasn't as crazy about it as some.

Sonic Colors, Epic Mickey, Klonoa, Okami, and I've read mixed reactions for Lost in Shadow, but you might want to give it a chance.

Silent Hill - Shattered Memories. You should give this a try if you like horror.

Zak and Wiki should be mentioned by everyone just so Justin begins to realize what he's missing.

I'd throw in Super Paper Mario.

I'll do my part and mention Zak and Wiki.  I'll also say that Metroid Prime Trilogy is well worth getting if you can find it.  It's hard to beat three excellent games on a single disc.

Yeah, Zak and Wiki is an absolute must. If we're suggesting 1st-party, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Galaxy 2, Skyward Sword, and Donkey Kong Country Returns are all stellar. On my third dungeon in Skyward Sword right now and, HOLY FUCK this game needs to be played if you have a Wii.

Nintendo took it out of print a year or so ago (iirc).  I still regret not picking it up when it went on clearance at Target shortly after the announcement.

I'll throw in a recommendation for Red Steel 2.  The first one was a disappointment on almost every level (but not as terrible as most people say it is), but 2 is much closer to the game that everyone expected from 1, with near seamless transitioning from gun to swordplay that is completely player controlled.

My favorite Wii game is definitely Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. It is clearly not for everyone so any recommendation must come with a big YMMV.

Both No More Heroes games are apeshit insane and pretty fun(and especially in the case of the first, pretty ugly, but don't let that stop you).

Battalion Wars 2 and De Blob are really solid.

The Wii has the best version of Resident Evil 4 if you ever felt the need to revisit.

There's a control scheme on the Wii version(one that I don't use) of Geometry Wars that uses the pointer that several of my friends swear by, so it may be worth a look if you see it cheap.

Oh, and download the hell out of World of Goo if you've never played it on PC.

If you're a shooter fan and you have nostalgia for it Goldeneye for Wii is actually pretty great.  Though completely and totally uninspired Mario Kart for Wii is as fun as it's ever been.  If you have friends who would be willing to play these games with you it's a total blast.  Also Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, two is even better than the excellent first.  And of course the no brainer, Skyward Sword.

If you can find it super cheap Red Steel 2 was actually worth some attention.  The Wii Motion Plus stuff in that game is probably one of the better uses.

I've played Lost in Shadow. Great ideas, but boring as hell, and nothing there that Team Ico didn't do first.

My current love for all things Sonic Generations demands I check out Colors.

Keep 'em coming, guys. My Amazon Wish List ain't gonna fill itself.

They still make Sonic games?!?!

Plenty of good stuff was mentioned so I'll try not to repeat except for this one:  Fragile Dreams.  It's not perfect, and yes, not for everyone, but I think it nails the atmosphere pretty well, and it's pretty nice to look at as well.  The developers did a wonderful job creating a sense of sadness and loneliness.

Also, it's first party and maybe already on your radar, but Warioland: Shake It is quite a bit of fun 2d platforming.

Dead Space Extraction was pretty fun, if you like House of the Dead. It's a great onrails shooter, a nice addition to the Dead Space story, Co-op's a blast and it's a really clever use of the Wii mechanics.

Justin Clark, I recommend...2 games!  Tatsunoko Vs Capcom!  An awesome Vs fighter by Capcom!  Anime Heroes and Heroines, Super Robots, and Street Fighters!  Metal Slug Anthology! 7 Metal Slug Games for around....$12-15!  I recommend visiting the...Amazon Jungle, for the best price!

Anyone care to chime on getting RE4 for this vs downloading the HD version off XBL?

If you want a game that's pretty easy but charming as hell, get Kirby's Epic Yarn. I had a lot of fun with that game.

Now that's what I'm talking about. NEVER heard of this one, and I just looked up the synopsis on Wikipedia. Sounds amazing to me.

I always have to root for EXCITETRUCK when anyone asks for Wii recs, because I love it so.  I think it's OOP and harder to find now, though-- you might have better luck finding a cheap copy of EXCITEBOTS, which is a similar blast.

Also count me as another vote for NO MORE HEROES.  I enjoyed the heck out of that one.  The amazing boss fights make any other tedious bits worthwhile.  I still need to play the sequel.

Damnit, I have Zak & Wiki, but I never got very far into it.  I kept trying to play late at night and getting tired.  I KNOW I need to give it another shot.

So it turns out it's called Zack and Wiki, not Zak.  Thanks everyone for protecting my feelings and not pointing it out.

Regarding the wii RE4, It's definitely the best version.  It doesn't look a whole lot better in HD and the wiimote pointer lets you aim much better.  I think it makes the game much easier, so I guess take that into account too.

The controls are amazing on the Wii. I haven't played the XBL version but I can imagine it's just like playing the PC port with a Xbox Controller. So more of the same but a bit prettier. I think both games have all the same extra missions, etc, but those controls tip it for me.

I'll second the love for Extraction.  It's small praise, but if it's the best rail shooter ever made.  Also, it helps if you like Dead Space.

Boom Blocks Bash Party!  Best use of the Wiimote!  Very, very, VERY fun party game.

Little King's Story is a cool kingdom building/lite RTS game.

Metroid Prime Trilogy, if you're a lucky motherfucker and can find it.

Zelda Skyward Sword.  One of the best Zeldas and probably the last great Wii game.

And if you feel like modding your system and BUYING a copy from Brittish Land, Xenoblade Chronicles is the best JRPG in, like, 8 years.  Wait.  When did FF XII come out?

I didn't know Metroid Prime Trilogy went on to be so rare. Alas, if I didn't love it so...

Echoing the Boom Blox love. They ARE party games, but they're probably the best on the system, and I had a good deal of fun playing solo.

Xenoblade is finally coming out in the U.S. next April, albeit only through Gamestop.

What about this Monster Hunter Tri game I keep hearing about? Also, I've seen Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn mentioned and Lost Winds which you get from the online shop.

Also MLB Power Pros 2008 sounds interesting in that you can play the whole life of a baseball player up to retirement.
