HAPPY FEET TWO Post-Release Discussion

Alas, I don't have time to really go into an actual review, but if all of HAPPY FEET TWO were as good as its second half, it would definitely be in my top favs for 2011. Phenomenal climax; reverberant use of "Under Pressure" and great family film upliftigans (to coin a word) all around. Face-meltingly gorgeous visuals. You just have to get past the whole Robin Williams playing two different non-white ethnicities thing. I for one don't really mind that George Miller is making kids movies.

Damn... I was going to skip this.

I have a thing for movies that end really well even if it's mostly uneven.

Haven't seen it in a couple years, but the first one was much the same way. Everything after Mumble gets captured is brilliant. It's just...everything prior.

The first one goes so crazy so late in the game and just ends so abruptly.  I recall feeling very frustrated with the film.

Let me be clear, this is definitely a sequel for people who liked the first film and liked the musical mash-up, dancing penguin schtick. Narratively, TWO doesn't go to the dark weird places the original did (with Mumble going insane in the zoo). Though, it retains kind of the weird overall vibe that George Miller brings to kids movies (which I like). But I should've contextualized my original comments more. I really liked the first film. If you had iffy feelings about it, I would imagine your feelings will be even iffier for the sequel.
