THIS SCARFACE REMAKE SCRIPT LIKE A GIANT CHICKEN MAYN…

Ayer is a really nice choice. I hope he has a nice new take on the material which of course this would make the 3rd Scarface in cinemas.

This is one of the better choices of writer for a re-make, but I'm still opposed to it on principle, because how could I not be? "Scarface" is my favourite movie. Would you want your favourite movie to be re-made?

I ask that assuming you consider your favourite movie perfect just the way it is, as I do. I know he said it's more of an update than a re-make, but just the idea of another movie being made with the same title irritates me.

I love the '32 version too. One of my favourite old movies I saw for the first time this year. I don't believe the '83 version could possibly be topped, I agree that "Breaking Bad" is the closest thing to a brilliant update we have (which itself cannot possibly be topped but this movie), and I only hope this will turn out like "The Thing" remake.

Mostly ignored by the public, after mildly annoying a few purists who loved the last version. First "Halloween", now this. I just pray "Say Anything...", "Before Sunrise", "Ed Wood", or "Swingers" isn't next. Leave my top ten the hell alone, Hollywood.

DePalma's SCARFACE had a script by Stone, and it's own unique path to blaze. Any remake at this point will be in the thrall of the Tony Montana story and it's fan base. I don't see how they can significantly change it up.  Oh, maybe he'll be Mexican or something instead of Cuban, but I bet this will be a pointless "updating" of the 80s classic, rather than a true "remake" in the way the Pachino version was

I like Ayer (Love HARSH TIMES and really enjoy STREET KINGS), but he's just no DePalma or Stone, and he doesn't have what it takes to instill in this project a legitimate reason for existing

Sorry, unless Ayer does massive quantities of cocaine with drug lords for research, like Stone did, this movie will suck.

Not a fan of Harsh Times but I think Ayer has been good outside of that. As for Scarface being remade again why not the last one was a remake as well.

Not a fan of DePalmas remake, but this sounds like it has definite potential.

My first reaction was Fuck No!!!!!! but I love me some Harsh Times, and since these remakes are seemingly inevitable I am glad someone who has done interesting work in the past is getting a shot at it.

I never saw the original version, but I think one of the things that really makes the 80's version work is that Tony comes fresh from the Cuban revolution, his ruthlessness supercedes that of the criminals around him and thus his meteoric rise to the top. It was only his choice to hold to some type of moral that initiated his downfall. Though this theme has been played out many times over (you cant be a crimelord and a good guy, or even a decent one), it still resonates.

The easy choice would be to have the new Tony come up out of the Mexican cartels, however since they are so entrenched in their business at this time it would remove the element of having an outsider come in and rise to the top.  Also, I am not sure that there is anyone who can be more ruthless than the Cartels, so our Tony would need another advantage to exploit.  So the question for me becomes where do you find your outsider?  The Russian mob thing has been done to death in both American and English crime films, the Cuban revolution is cold.  So what is our Tony's background going to be? That is the question the writers have to answer in order to intrigue me. I think Tony as an asian gangster might be interesting. Asian Gangs have their own criminal networks and have to survive in southern california despite being severely outmanned by other groups. How they manage to flourish despite these odds is an interesting topic to explore. Maybe some other tumultous eastern block or African nation could spawn the next Tony. Possibly even Venezuela, but that feels more like a Cuba light scenario.

So now I am so far off what this film will likely be I have to go all the way. Depending on which backstory you want, here are my leads Asian- Sung Kang, African- Adibeze from Oz, his name just too tough for me, Hispanic- Michael Pena.

Anyway, I doubt they would go in any of those directions (though Pena a possibility). But a guy can dream right?

Regardless of the ethnicity of the character, the actor must be Christian Bale. It will be his epic reteaming with Ayer, and will keep alive the tradition of accents and skin dye from De Palma's version

Make Tony a wall street type who is used to having no regard for human life, so when he transfers to straight up crime, he will be that much more ruthless than the petty street thugs he is set against. It will be like American Psycho on a grand scale

It's like you read my mind Kate, it's such a natural fit and the players all line up. But because Bale already did American Psycho, and because the corporate baddie is the cliche of the new millenia, and because I think that you are supposed to equally root for and be appalled by Tony I hope this is not the direction they go in. Though, I must admit it is far more likely.

A protagonist from Haiti might be interesting.

I'm not up in arms about this, despite loving the previous two versions.  Of course, I also won't be surprised if this goes the way of the dodo like the other two remakes Ayer has been attached to (The Wild Bunch & Commando).

I think this should be remade in the style of Bugsy Malone.

Great minds think alike! And I really really hope that is what they do, because IMHO my idea is aces

I think the times are right to explore those themes, and there is nothing wrong with an actor later in life doing a role that plays off or expand upon earlier work

If this is a modern interpretation, shouldn't he be Mexican?

I have no problems with this remake, and I love the DePalma version in all its goofy OTTity (Even if it was arguably the death knell for the Great Pacino of the 70s and paved the way for the schtick-heavy Pacino we know today).

In a way, it's such an elemental story rooting from Shakespearian tragedy that it's historically endorsed as fair game.
