X-Men First class: Rewatched

Bought and watched this on Blu Ray this week and you know what? It may well be as good as the Singer films.

I kind of love everything about it, from the swinging groovy Xavier to the James Bond esque Magneto the film works on every level.  My only complaint was the need to establish the status quo by the end of the film. There really was no need to do that, I would have loved to see more adventures with this team.

As reboots go this is one of the best - Thoughts?

Definitely better than X1. I too wanted more of this team, especially Eric the nazi-hunter. Great performances, direction, action. The only negative was that ridiculous soundwave kid who flew by singing or some shit like that.

Ken Savage, Well I could have done without Angel Salvadore as well.  Also...Havok is nowhere as cool as Cyclops.  Either Cyke or Jean should be in...X-Men 2nd Class.  Wolverine should be added after...The Wolverine, and a possible Third...Claw of...Logan's Run of Films, before a likely recasting!  If there is a...Third Class, Pyslocke should be added.  Having both a...Ninja (Heavens to...Betsy) and a Samurai (Logan) would be...X-Actly what would make the X-Men...X-Cell!

You mean better, right?

But yeah i agree. The ending seems a bit rushed. I could've gone a few more installments of Charles/Eric being friends together.

I'd go as far as saying it's better than X2 for me, if you exclude the whole Phoenix cockteasing deal. I loved the interplay between Xavier and Eric and Mystique.

Other than the unfinished effects I really enjoyed it.

I can't help but wish this was the Magneto film it started out as though. The Magneto Nazi hunting scenes are my favorite bits by far.

Yeah I do, but I thought that might be a touch to controversial, glad I'm not alone.

Personally I liked Havok and Banshee, it was nice to see some of the other Marvel mutants in this.

One of the other complaints I have seen levelled at this film is the showdown between Eric and Shaw.  I know a lot of people were expecting some big, drawn out brawl but personally I love how that scene played out.

I think it's easily the best X film. I only wish that the effects were more polished.

I need to give this another shot. I remember being sort of apathetic towards it when I saw it in theaters. I hated how rushed those final moments felt. Amazon droppped it off this week though, so I'm looking forward to revisiting it. Fassbender's Magneto was worth the buy alone.

Also, the kid who played Havok needs to bury his acting dreams in the back yard and never speak of them again. Awful.

He's not as bad as the kid playing young Magneto. His acting during his breakout is laughable.

It's not better than X2, but it's definitely the 2nd best in the series. It really needed to be 2 movies though. Magneto's turn comes way to quickly, and there's no way that Mystique would turn away and leave her brother at the very moment he is lying paralyzed on the sand.

Fassbender and McAvoy are fantastic, but man, that scene with the kids all giving each other nicknames is really, really painful.

Yeah, it's better than "X-Men" and "X-Men: The Last Stand", but that's in large part just because those weren't very good movies. "X-Men: First Class" is not in the same league as "X2". It has its charms, though. I enjoyed the performances of Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Kevin Bacon. Jennifer Lawrence was passable. Her character's arc was okay and occasionally involving, but her last scene was a bit flat. The other kids were just lame, and Beast's make-up was lousy. Fassbender, McAvoy, and Bacon had good scenes and arcs, but the stuff with the kids dragged the movie down. "X2" had a much more tightly constructed story and a more well-rounded cast, even if it did drag a bit at the end.

I didn't like the idea of a young Magneto movie when that was talked about, but now I wish they had made a movie all about Fassbender and Bacon. Whiny man-child McAvoy somehow managed to be even worse than I had expected, and the kid mutants were at best completely uninteresting. It's definitely better than Last Stand (not really saying much), but nowhere near the first two.
