Oh, and I realize this is nitpicking to the highest degree (especially for this kind of movie), but I was a little skeeved out that Ethan's escape plan basically consisted of letting a bunch of guards get beaten to death by inmates. I know the gut-reaction is supposed to be "Nameless Guard = Bad," "Nameless Russian Guard = Secret Hitler," but it just seemed sort of callous, especially since they cut back to them kicking the dude on the ground. I actually thought Hunt was going back to intervene when he gave Pegg the signal, but nope, just punched and skeedadled.
Ha! I got the impression Hunt was going to go back and save that guy too... I seem to be inordinately concerned with what happens to bystanders (or extras) in these kind of pictures...
But, Splatoon-- I didn't think MI4 compared unfavorably with Haywire. The one Dubai scene equals two scenes of Gina Carano killing dudes with her powerful legs, no?
Well, I liked 'em both.
But I dig your point about Renner's character: "Hey, you know that failed operation you've spent the last few years torturing yourself about? Just kidding."
They should have ended the movie with Brandt socking Hunt in the jaw... and then deciding to join the team anyway.
