The Aftermath coming to DVD!

If you're into extremely sick graphic horror you might have heard of the Spanish short "The Aftermath" by Nacho Cerda. Well, good news, guys! It's coming to DVD as a double feature with "Genesis". The good folks over at Unearthed Films have acquired the rights to those two controversial films.

Not much info as of yet but definitely awesome news.

But they're also two of the most beautiful horror pictures ever made.

There's been a VHS available for a while in Europe with Aftermath, a making of and Cerda's first short The Awakening.

This is almost brilliant news. My only concern is that, with the Guinea Pig films, Unearted have marked themsleves out as a somewhat schlockier verion of Synapse (is that fair?) and I hope that people don't go into Aftermath expecting a riotous gore fest. It is graphic. But it is a deadly serious, hugely powerful and disturbing picture. Jim Van Bebber, a huge supporter of Cerda, infamously laid into a bunch of ignorant monkey-spunks at the Fantasia fest a few years back who sniggered and whooped at he gore in the picture.

Genesis is totally opposite to Aftermath, a spare, aching love story of a sculpter and his dead wife.

So glad Cerda's going to finally get some recognition at last though.

Wow. We've had 'Aftermath' sitting in our living room for at least a year now and have never watched it, mainly because all I'd heard is it was massivly gory and not much else. Now that I know it's so well loved...

It's not gory. But there is a lot of gore. If that makes sense.

Just stick your super cool film afficianado heads on and go for broke. It's quite tough and it's a jolting experience. But a grand one.

Yep, I used to have that tape when I was still living over in Europe. The Aftermath is an unbelievable short film. It's a very artsy kind of movie, not gory but extremely shocking and graphic. The corpses in it just look absolutely incredible. The make-up FX used are second-to-none. I'm really looking forward to the DVD. Love Unearthed Films! They're getting better and better.

My eyes just crossed.

It's THE classiest necrophelia flick ever made! Gorgeously shot. Glad it's coming out... though don't know if I'll pick it up.

Now, y'see, you didn't need to put it quite like so eloquently as that...

Okay, watched it last night for the first time, and I have to agree with Straxboy...beautiful. Disturbing, yes, but not as bad as I had thought..ver clinical in it's depiction of gore, which does make it worse.

The coolest part was that the tape (from Blackest Heart...sure do miss them) had, after the movie of course, a making of featurette, a debate between Nacho and the director of 'Necormantik' (name escapes me, sorry) about death, and Nacho's first film, 'The Awakening'. I hope all that's on on Unearthed's DVD, it's good stuff.

Yup, the most remarkable part of the tape is Jorg Buttgereit coming across like the man has an ounce of sense in his head. Ironic that this interview is conducted byt the man who made the absolute opposite type of picture in Nekromantik. He atones well here though...

Glad you "enjoyed" it fella.

No, that would be "Kissed".

I couldn't get interested in Kissed, dunno why, I was really bummed too as I had bugged the shit out of my boss at the rental shop I worked at to pick it up. Ah well...

I saw Aftermath about 4 years ago when I first got that tape we watched last night. Powerful stuff, beautiful filmaking, even more beautiful due to the subject matter, and of course doubly disturbing to think something so well presented can look so great.

Good stuff, I will most definitely pick up the DVD when it's available.
