98. The Good Woman of Bangkok

goodwomanWEB.jpg

A very interesting an multi-layered documentary about Thai prostitute, Aoi . What starts off as a slice of life portrait of the Thai sex industry turns into something a little more morally questionable when it is revealed near the end that the documentarian is lying to the viewer. While the film makes it seem as though he was trying to "save" his main subject from a life as hooker it turns out he was also hiring her services through the course of filming.  A film that is definitely not safe for work.

99, . Brothers Keeper.

This should have been included much sooner, not sure what I was thinking. Amazing story of family, innocence, murder and rural life. Would make a great double feature with October Country.

100. The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress (1944, d: William Wyler)

Wyler flew at least six combat missions in B-17 bombers to get the footage he needed, suffering permanent hearing loss in the process. The images of the remarkably hardy planes returning with heavy damage are indelible.

102.   The "Up" Series 1964-2012 (Director: Michael Apted)

Beginning in 1964, Michael Apted has documented the lives of 14 British children from every socio-economic class and decided to check in on them every 7 years to see if the class they were born in beared out on what their station in life is.   The fact that the project is still going on nearly 50 years later (as well as the excellent resulting documentaries) is staggering in its scope and ambition.

Wow...I can't believe we spaced on that one. Nice catch.

103. Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows

To me, professional wrestling is basically the most retarded shit ever. So much so that when otherwise sane adults discuss it in depth while using all that wrestling lingo, like it's an episode of The friggin Wire or something, I actually lose respect for them. That said- this is a very interesting documentary. There's genius in how it mixes reality and fiction to where you can't see the line anymore.

Also (unless I missed it) how come Catfish didn't get mentioned? Or does that one not count?
