Opinions of the Subspecies series?

Heres a series of films that isnt talked about much...

What do you guys all think about the Subspecies series? Ive only seen Bloodstone: Subspecies II and I thought it was decent overall. Ive only seen it once though and it was about 7 or 8 years ago.

I just saw a trailer for Bloodstone thats on my Hellraiser III VHS that I just picked up, and so thats what sparked this thread.

So has anyone seen all 4 Subspecies films? What are your opinions of each? Are they on DVD? (and if so...are the discs any good?)

lets hear it...

I've seen three I think. The third one takes place in a cave or something. I really enjoyed the first two. They did a lot with shawdows and stuff like that and were pretty good for their budget.

Theres also a sort of spin-off called the vampire journals that ties in with the thrd and fourth I think.

Oh yeah the fourth is on DVD. Only cost like 7 bucks but im sure there arent any features, just a whole lotta trailers.

Well, the wife and I like all the Full Moon stuff (well, most) and the Subspecies series is one of their better titles. They can be slow, but the atmosphere is really well done since they filmed on location.

The Subspecies movies have never done anything for me. I've always thought they were pretty poorly made, were slow as all hell, and never had a mythology that interested me. It was like a really, really bad Tribune TV series that's only selling point was seeing the Romanian countryside.

And Kevin Spiritas of course. Can't forget him...

I liked Subspecies 1 the best. Part 2 seemed to have a bigger budget for effects and glossier photography, but it lost some of the gritty energy that the first one had. I tried to watch part 3, but it was too boring to get through.

Vampire Journals is AWFUL. Could they have been more obvious about ripping off Anne Rice? Aside from that, it's just a really crappy grade-Z movie.
