Stephen King's Bag of Bones

I DVR'd this last night and am watching it now.  Anyone else watching?

Wasn't even aware this was a thing. Looked around a bit, and discovered that A&E's offering the whole thing on their website. If you're late to the party like me, go here: http://www.aetv.com/bag-of-bones/watch-the-movie/part-1/.

They'll put part 2 up tomorrow.

It's actually not bad so far.  I can't imagine A&E won't re-air part one.

Oh believe me this will reair 1000 times. I recorded the whole 4 hour chunk tonight.

Mm, I sure liked the book. One of King's better. The movie is kind of funny at least. So far.

I saw Mick Garris' name in association with this and ran far away.

Sad to see a fine actor like Pierce Brosnan stoop to TV movie work (A&E is no HBO), but I'm still excited to see it all the same

Fuck is it really?

Well, it's terrible. The story that I found so entertainingly pulpy on the page is just the most boring thing ever on screen. Except when it's laughable.

Probably not as bad as Desperation, but still well below par, even for these terrible miniseries they keep doing. God, I would love it if real directors started making King movies again. Back in the day, it was Brian DePalma, Stanley Kubrick and David Cronenberg. Now its only Mick Garris, forever. I find it to be not credible that a man as involved in the horror scene as Garris filmed all these scenes of ghosts rattling windows and moaning while Brosnan stumbles around overacting horribly could ever possibly think they read as scary.

I did like the dream sequence where it was three straight 'I thought I was making out with a hot chick but its really a corpse! Oh no!" scares in a row. All three female characters, 1,2,3. That's some classic inept.

How have I seen all these movies? What possible reason could I have for still checking them out? Ah well, I'm sure in two years I'll watch Mick Garris's Lisey's Story, starring, oh, let's say  Liv Taylor.

King IS the brand at this point. Why bother with guys like De Palma who might change the sacred texts?! Mick Garris is lavish in his ability to transcribe King word for word, scene for scene, with no pesky "thoughts" of his own.

I watched the first part, going into it with no knowledge of the story or even of A&E (like what kind of stuff they air, if it could be graphic with blood or nudity).

It was ok. no big deal.

I'm not frightened by curtains swirling, cabinets banging open and closed by themselves, magnetic letters on the fridge re-arranging. The feeling that everyone in a small town knows your business was realistic. When I saw William Schallert's name in the credits was probably the only surprise for me..I was didn't realize he was still alive! I remember him from the Patty Duke show, but he's been very busy acting since then!

I did notice we got a 'character being pulled away backwards from the camera' shot, used plenty since REC and the American version of it. Seems a standard camera move for scary movies..they used it recently in the new version of 'the thing'.

I'm gonna watch the second half tonite, once again with no expectations, but hopefully it will throw some creeps into me.

Well the second part was better I suppose, although entirely predictable. A couple nice dead people make up jobs. And I liked the cabin he was staying in. And at the very end I was expecting something..anything more, but nope-- just credits. Nothing more scary then your average made for TV movie, which I guess this was. Overall I'd give it a 2 or 3 out of 10, and that would be generous.
