The number 10 entry told me basically all I needed to know right from the article: people pirate disposable summer fluff that they feel no emotional attachment to, since it leaves your mind as soon as the experience is over. No one wants to own those films, they just want to consume them like junk food and move on to the next batch of empty cinematic calories

If the studios want to be able to double and tripple redip, they need to create films that people actually care about

What this tells me is I call bullshit when studios claim that piracy is why their film didn't do well at the box office. Case in point; Avatar #1.

All of these films made a ton of money, so yeah.. I call BS on the piracy issues.

Kind of sad how many of those are films that lose an incredible amount of the experience when viewed on a 22" monitor.

Games systems like the 360 and PS3 can access movie files from you PC, so in theory you can stream those movies right on your big screen.

Or just cut and paste them to usb flash drive or SD card and plug them into the console.

And piracy DOES effect some movies. The star and the director of UNDISPUTED 3 said that a part 4 is unlikely because part 3 was pirated so much. Believe me when I say it's a great loss.

Except the link reveals people also downloaded TDK, INCEPTION, and THE DEPARTED. Which kinda shoots holes in your theory about just disposable fluff. I'd say it's just a film-popularity (quality or no) thing among the torrent-savvy male demographic. And ironic that a Mouse-House film defending the "virtues" of piracy being one of them.

If this method of piracy was as prevalent/easy 10 years ago, THE MATRIX, LOTR, and FIGHT CLUB would be on the list. Those flicks were heavy early-dvd-market hitters instead.
