GREAT tv movie about Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo who killed over 50 people that he picked up mostly at various train stations. The story balances its focus between Chikatilo and Lt. Viktor Burakov who is charged with apprehending the killer while fighting pre-Glasnost Soviet bureaucracy which refuses to acknowledge the existence of a serial killer and tries to pin the blame on homosexuals and various other social outcasts.
This movie has a FANTASTIC cast including Stephen Rea, Donald Sutherland, Max von Sydow, Joss Ackland and (Frank Darabont favorite) Jeffrey DeMunn who plays Chikatilo himself. The only problem with the movie is that, because it was made for TV, visually it's a bit flat. Otherwise it's very well written, the acting is excellent and it's one of the best serial killer movies out there.
Worth your time.
